First off, I just want to say how thankful I am for the previous trip reports and advice from DISers. It was very useful in planning our 1st Disney Cruise. I took tons of pictures and several videos of our 3 night adventure and I am still going back and looking through them daily! I have recommended Disney Cruise Line to everyone I know with kids and kids at heart. I highly recommend it to families with children who are not tall enough to ride the rides at Disney World but love seeing the characters. Disney Cruise Line exceeded our expectations and I hope to be back aboard some time soon!

Pre-Day 1: Port Canaveral is an 11 hour drive for us so we left EARLY the day before and stayed in Cocoa Beach, FL. Our motel was within walking distance of the beach and about 3 miles from the Port. I would suggest staying here for a night or two but I wouldn't want to make a week long beach trip out of it.
Day 1:Taking the advice of the DIS board members, we got to the Port around 9:30 and to my surprise we were
allowed to park and wait for our luggage to be picked up. Here is our 1st view of the ship while waiting for porters to pick up our luggage.

I really enjoyed being able to walk around and take pictures at the terminal before it stared getting really crowded. Not sure if you can tell from this pic but this is how "uncrowded" it was for the 1st hour we were there.
P5130065.jpg

When I saw someone standing in line to check in, I went ahead and got in line...good thing because they opened up 30 minutes early. I had filled out everything online so it took about a minute to get everything signed and ready to go. We got a #2 boarding pass (yay!) Before boarding, we had our 1st character siting. I was impressed at how well my 3yo took to him!
P5130074.jpg

All my little boy talked about before going on our trip was how he was going to swim in the Mickey Mouse pool...so that was our 1st stop. There was only one other child in the pool with him so he pretty much had it to himself the entire time. Never again did I see it like that...:rotfl:I should also say that this gave me the perfect opportunity to try out my new Olympus 850SW (recommended by DISers) This is my 1st Shockproof/Waterproof camera and I love it!

Around 1:30 we decided to check out our stateroom. This was the part I was most looking forward to because we were upgraded from a Category 9 Oceanview to a Category 7 Navigators Veranda. It was better than I could have ever imagined! I've really missed going to sleep listening to the ocean and waking up to a beautiful sunrise on the sea.The last picture is a the view of Port Canaveral from our veranda.

I was surprised by how the staterooms are so roomy! Way to go DCL! Before the life boat drill started, we took DS to the Oceaneer's Club to play. This is where I seem to differ in opinion with most people on DIS. My son is 3 years old and attends preschool, so he has no problem adjusting to new people...but I definitely did not have any intentions on leaving him alone in the club. 3 reasons....(1)this was our family vacation, (2) I wanted to get some pics of him doing the kids club activities (3) I didn't know anything about the people who would be in charge of taking care of him. The reason why I am saying this is because I felt like I was the only person who thought this way and I almost didn't go on the Disney Cruise because I thought I would not be able to go into the clubs with him. That being said, most of the counselors were really great and attentive to the kids, but there were a couple who seemed impatient and sometimes very rude with the 3 and 4 year olds. I get it...kids at this age have short attention spans and can be difficult to deal with but that was their job and if they couldn't handle this age group, maybe they should move to different age range. Yes, I did comment about this on our comment cards at the end of the cruise. It really disappointed me because I had heard so many great things about it on here. Anyways, the club itself is set up so cute! My son, being a huge Peter Pan fan loved Captain Hook's pirate ship.

After the pleasantly short life boat drill, I took the advice from the boards and sent DH back to the room with the life jackets and headed straight to the Goofy Pool for the Sail Away Party. So far, all of my early planning was paying off because we were in the very front of the stage. DS was too sleepy to stay the entire time so he and DH saw the characters and headed back to the room.I stuck around to take a few more pics of the ship.

Okay, I'm not a cruise expert but I have cruised before and I never once felt the ship move while on the ocean. My DH was really worried about motion sickness but I kept reassuring him that I had never experienced it before. This first night was horrible! Everyone, including the staff, commented on how rough the seas were that night. People were stumbling around everywhere and my poor DH and DS barely made it through the night. We finally broke down and pulled out the Bonine and Dramamine for my little one. We even put the wrist bands on him because I was so worried he was going to throw up at dinner. Luckily, no one ever physically got sick but we cut the night very short.

We had 2nd dining at Triton's on our 1st night. I like 2nd seating because you can get everything you want to get done before dinner and then you can go to bed on a full stomach. We saw the "real" captain of the ship before dinner...
P5140116.jpg
P5140118.jpg

At Triton's, we met our wonderful dinner mates...a mom and dad and their young daughter...Disney does a great job of pairing up families that are similar. We also met our servers for the rest of the trip... Joanie from South Africa and Shafik from Singapore. They did an excellent job of keeping our cranky little boy entertained! I took pictures of some of the meals but they really didn't do them much justice. I had the shrimp for appetizer and the sea bass, DH had some type of beef, and DS went with the pizza and mickey mouse bar with sprinkles and marshmallows (he was in heaven!). Everything tasted great! After the sugar high, DS crashed...on the table...haha.

DS and DH went back to the room to get some sleep but I stayed up a little longer and walked around the ship, took in the sea air from our veranda, and planned for the next day at Nassau. I wanted to make sure I got the most for my money! Day 2 will be in a different post since I'm limited to 25 images....

I can't wait for more! Especially love trip reports with pictures! The more the better!

I know how wonderful it is to be the first in the Mickey Pool on embark day. It's pristine and very relaxing. We did this on our second DCL cruise, our first 7 day cruise. I can always pass the buffet and I sat there in the sun watching my DD and the my sons were the first in line for the chicken strips. It was HEAVEN! :cloud9:

Can't wait to read more! :wizard:

Thanks for sharing your trip with us!! Excellent recount so far and love the pictures! :)

Thank you! When I get done with this, I plan on reading your 7 night trip report. We hadn't even got off the ship yet and we were already talking about going on a 7 night some time next year!

You trip report reminds me of when I went with my DS. He was 3.5 at the time. It was so much fun with him. As well as relaxing for me too. We have been to WDW 2 times since, I am ready to cruise again!!!!

First, please let me tell you that I'm enjoying your trip report very much. We have an almost 3 year old, so its nice to hear other parents with children the same age and their experiences.

We were in the Oceaneer's Club as well. We noticed the same thing you did. Some CMs were very attentive, patient and great. There were a few that were impatient, not focused on the kids and actually not very nice to the younger ones. I too was disappointed. We left our DS in Flounders because we heard rave reviews. But we got paged at dinner once, we checked on him and he was fine for a bit. Because of that, we decided to go back early to pick him up. He was crying again. And they said that he had just started crying again. I noticed a few things right away. The CMs were great with the younger ones. They were holding them, feeding them and paying great attention. But that evening, it seemed like some of the older children were either just watching television or seemed bored. DS doesn't watch much television. Just appears the older ones around 2.5 to 3 years old were left to entertain themselves. He enjoys being active and playing, so we were disappointed that Flounders just didn't keep him entertained. There was one CM that played with DS but he had to leave and that's when the crying started again. I get that DS will cry because we aren't there and he's being left with people he doesn't know, but a good caretaker usually is able to work with them and keep them entertained, so they are less focused on being scared. We've seen it at daycare. It was definitely disappointing. Needless to say, we cancelled the rest of our Flounder's reservations. It worked out fine. We had DS with us and rest of the cruise and we had a great time with him. Just glad to know that we weren't the only ones that noticed it.

Looking forward to your next update.

You are the first one that I saw stayed with their kid in the kid's club....that is nice. I didn't know that was an option (very cool) so I have a question for you. We have a 20 month old and I know the age for the club is 3 and up but if I were to stay with her do you think they would let us go in there to play a little or is it strictly 3 and up? Heck, even if I could play with her in the nursery area it is just another activity for her to do. I am the same as you. I only let her stay with my parents and brother/sis-in-law. She is just too young yet to be without family.

Thank you! I agree with you. Our son stayed with us and family until this past semester when we started letting him go to Pre-K. Even then, we did much research on the school and made sure he was in a safe environment...Overprotective? Don't Care!:rotfl: We just stayed out of the way and let them do their thing in the Oceaneer's Club. I was afraid I was going to be the only parent there but every once and a while a parent would stop in. Now, I'm not really sure about how strict they are on this topic, but the club does have family times set up when parents and kids can come play freely. We did this a couple of times and I saw some parents with kids at that age playing in the club.

Day 2- Nassau Day:After a rough night at sea, I was looking forward to a day anchored to dry land. I had room service ordered for breakfast so I got up early to make sure I didn't miss hearing them knock at the door. Here is where the veranda really plays an important part in your cruise. I loved being able to wake up and walk outside in my PJ's to see the beautiful blue water and a tiny, little Atlantis in the distance. We are not big breakfast eaters so room service bagels, pastries, and doughnuts with coffee and juice was perfect for us. I woke my son up before we got our wake-up call from Mickey Mouse, so he could hear it (something I wouldn't have done if it wasn't for reading the boards everyday). He told everyone back home that Mickey Mouse woke him up everyday!

Views From Our Veranda...Wouldn't You Like To Wake Up To This Everyday?!

Nassau is really beautiful but I decided to stay on the ship with our son, while DH wondered around the island. Many of the shore excursions are geared for older children so we didn't plan for any. I had been to Atlantis once before but I felt like it would not be as fun for our 3 year-old as staying on the ship would be! I sent DH with one of our cameras...here are a couple of shots he got from Nassau...

Before we went on our cruise, I had a lot of questions about what to do on the ship during docked days. There are TONS of things to do, especially for the little ones!! Lots of characters, swimming, kids club activities, overall just enjoying the beautiful scenery. Before we even made it to the pools, we saw Goofy and Max, Chip and Dale, Cinderella, Snow White, Aladdin, Donald and Daisy, and these guys....personal favorites of my 3 year old...

The pools are still crowded even on port days but not nearly as bad. It was almost humorous to walk by and see all of those people trying to cram into that tiny Goofy pool! So I figured if I had to get in the pool, now would be the time to do it. It also gave me a chance to take some pictures using the underwater feature with my new camera.

We missed a lot of kids club activities that I wanted DS to go to but the child had to take a nap at some point during the day. We did go to Toy Story Bootcamp. It was cute and DS seemed to really enjoy the green army man teaching them how to be soldiers.

When we left the kids club, we met back up with DH and had lunch at Beach Blanket Buffet. I tried just about everything they had and loved it. The fancy stuff is great but I'm a southern girl so I liked being able to eat what I normally eat at home!

After lunch, it was time for DS to take a nap and time for Mommy to relax by the quiet adult pool. Once again, I did some planning for later that night and for the next day. DH just loves my itineraries :rotfl2: That night was the hugely popular Pirate Night...I was amazed by how some families really go all out! Not really our thing, but I still thought it was cute how other families did. We dressed in our dinner wear for that night and put a pirate shirt on our 3 year old with Mickey pirate ears and a hook...just enough to make him happy. Oh, I know this is a big question on the boards...What to wear to dinner? The only dressing up I could get DH to do was khaki pants and a button up shirt. My son usually wore khaki or plaid shorts with a polo or button up shirt and I wore sundresses (nothing fancy). I saw a few people wearing jeans but the majority of people went with this style. On the last night (optional dress-up), my dress was a little dressier but it seemed like the people wearing suits or formal dresses were out of place, because so many other families wore more casual clothing.

We couldn't miss Toy Story: The Musical because that's one of our son's favorite movies. It was an amazing show and DS was in awe the entire show! He is still singing "The Claw, The Claw, The Claw"...haha. The person that plays Sid did a crazy, amazing job! After seeing this, I really hated that we missed The Golden Mickeys the night before. Here's some pics from the show...

When we walked out of Toy Story, Captain Jack Sparrow was stumbling around. At this point, my son had never seen Pirates of the Caribbean but he loved seeing a "real" pirate.
P5150207.jpg

Our 2nd night dinner was at Animator's Palate. DH and I agreed that the dinner was okay but the atmosphere of the restaurant was really what made the night. The servers do an excellent job of explaining what each meal contains and they try to work with you the best they can. Out of the 3 nights, this was our least favorite meal but our favorite place to eat.
P5150224-1.jpg

Afterwords, we quickly headed to the Goofy deck to watch the Pirate Party and fireworks. It was so loud that we really couldn't hear what the characters were saying but the fireworks show was spectacular. Even DH (an avid fireworks man) appreciated the length of the fireworks show.

Thanks to everyone for reading and commenting on my trip report. I really just wanted to do this for myself so I would remember what I missed out on and what I really enjoyed for our next cruise! I loved looking at pics before we left for our cruise so I'm happy to put up some of my own!

Day 3- Castaway Cay coming soon.....

I leave you with a beautiful sunset from Pirate Night...

Thanks so much! I'd appreciate that. As you said at the end of your latest installment, like you I pretty much write a trip report for myself... people posting and commenting and showing their interest is just a nice bonus! :thumbsup2

Nassau Day looked amazing weather-wise. Look at that sky! The sky and the water match! Gorgeous!

Oh good, sounds like they may allow it then. That will be fun for our DD. Love your TR so far...we sound very much alike. I think our family and friends think we are overprotective too but I don't care either...that's my job!! People are crazy now and you just can't be too careful!

excellent trip report--and a great souvenir journal for you to remember the adventure.

thanks for sharing this. I can't wait to read the rest. :)

Nice Report, love the pictures. I'm new on here but when you say you were upgraded to Cat 7 from a Cat 9 did you just inquire when you checked in? And was it a free upgrade?

Our boy turns 3 in September and it looks like he will have a absolute blast!

Really enjoying your report and pics! Your son is adorable - seems like he is really enjoying himself (despite the CM's in the Club but hopefully that was just a bad day on their behalf or hope they change jobs soon!)

A friend of mine is going in December for a 4 night cruise aboard the Wonder and they are taking their 3 yr old & 10 yr old. I'm anxious to see how they enjoy the children's activities.

How great that you got an upgrade - the view is fabulous! My friends that are going in December are booked in Cat 4 but now I'm wondering if they should just book in a lower category and hope for an upgrade to save money (well me money since I'm treating them to this trip!)
