Disney's Magical Express -- Luggage Tag Info

When booking your airfare ahead of time, you must pay the baggage fee for both your departure and return flight. If you cannot produce paperwork that shows that you pre-paid the baggage fee, you cannot check your bags at your resort on your return flight home. I received a printout recently when I made my final payment. It also stated they are only sending one baggage ticket per guest now, since most people are only using one bag, due to the airlines' fees.
I haven't heard anything about that as of yet. To the best of my knowledge, you pay any checked baggage fees when you checkin at your departure airport, for that particular leg. When you get to WDW, if you have fees to pay for your return, you just call the BAGS number (on your DME departure notice), pay the fee with a credit card and then checkout the next day. Then you can use the resort checkout service.

Your number of bags could very well change...I know that happens to me all the time. Those nasty last minute things I just 'have' to buy...that means I have to get another bag to carry them home in!!!

I made my DME reservation about a month ago and called today to see if the tags had been mailed. Turns out they didn't have our reservations at all. They had to re-do the whole thing and said the packets should arrive in 5 to 7 days. If they don't arrive should I bring my reservation paper to the DME desk, even though it hasn't been updated with the DME info yet?

This seems to be happening more and more often. If I were you, I would give DME a call back, in a week, if you don't get the info packet/tags. You just want to be sure they have you in their system. If, for some reason, you don't get that info packet, just head to baggage claim, get your bags, and take them with you, to the DME checkin area. As long as you are in the system, you won't have any trouble getting on a bus. BUT...if you hadn't called, and you got there, assuming that all was fine, only to find they didn't have you listed, you wouldn't have been able to ride the bus to your resort!!
So...give them a week or so to get the packet to you. If you don't get it, call them again..just to be sure they have you listed.

I know that DME sends one tag per person, does that include children under 3? Since DD is free, I wasn't sure if she'd get one or not.

If she is listed on the room reservation, she should get one.

Does Disney still send out luggage tags? I just received our ME (yellow) tags, but trying to remember if they send the luggage tags later on, or if they just dont do that any longer? Thanks!

The hard plastic souvenir luggage tags are a perk of booking a package, and are sent out with the final paperwork after the due date for final payment (45 days prior to travel). Guests who book a room-only reservation don't receive these souvenir luggage tags.

Thanks! We did book a package so I guess we should be getting ours soon...we are about 35 days out.

We just got ours today!! It had the luggage tags, game card for the arcade, coupons for Planet Hollywood, photopass photo, mini-golf, extra time on Sea Raycers. Got everyone very excited!!

Our plane arrives around 8:30. What time should we expect our bags to arrive through DME?

Also we will have carry ons with us when we get on DME. Can we take them with us on the bus or do they get stored somewhere underneath the bus?

Thank you!

Disney says to expect the bags about 3 hours after resort check-in. If yiu land at 8:30, maybe you'll be checking-in at your resort by before 10, so expect the bags by about 1.

If your carry-ons are small enough, you can bring them on the bus with you. If not (or if you wish), the driver will store them under the bus and you'll get them back immediately, as soon as you arrive at your resort.

I booked ME and have received the vouchers and luggage tags but the flight that I assumed I would purchase for our return home is still too expensive so I booked a later flight. Does that matter? I'm not sure if the DME buses just periodically come around or are they dependent on guests' departures. Do I need to contact ME and give them the new flight number? Will they have to reissue the ME voucher/ticket? We fly out at 9:10 at night so we have the whole day to spend in Disney now!!

When you get to MCO to start your vacation, you head to the DME checkin counter. They will ask you about your return flight info. You can give them the flight info then. The day before you are to checkout of your resort, you will get a notice that gives you the pickup time, the next day, for your DME departure bus. If your flight is at 9:10pm, you can plan on being picked up around 6:10..give or take 15 mins either way. You don't get to decide when you want to leave, you must be on the bus you are assigned to.

I just spoke to my TA. I am from Canada and will be flying with Westjet. She told me that I am to tag my luggage with ME tags, collect my luggage when I get to MCO, then take it to the ME desk and they will take my luggage from me there and I will receive it in my room. I'm confused now because I thought that I was to skip baggage claim completely and ME will do this for me. She said it was because I was flying with Westjet and arriving in Terminal A. Is this true? Thanks, Tracey

If you are going through customs in Orlando then you will claim your bags at the International terminal and go through customs. Then after you clear customs you then place your bags on another belt where they are transported to the main terminal. That is where DME takes over and will pull your bags with Yellow tags. You can proceed directly to the DME desk after depositing your bags on the 2nd belt.

Anyone else have this experience? We got our Magical Express packet and not enough tags were in the envelope!

We are flying Southwest and can take 2 bags each for free. However, we only received 1 tag per person.

When we called to ask if they would send more, they told us to just make a sign that says "Magical Express" and put it on our luggage. Does this work? Anyone done this?

I've had luggage lost before, so I'm a bit skeptical! :confused3

Call DME directly at 866-599-0951, and they'll be happy to send you all the DME tags you need.

My guess is that when you called, you called the main Disney number and not the DME number. The cast member you spoke with was dead wrong. That CM obviously doesn't realize the functionality of the DME tags. They have pre-printed personalized information, and the most important part of that is a few barcodes that allow the tag to be scanned and automatically be sent to the right resort and the right room.

Yeh, that CM was really ... out there. Please call DME, and you'll speak with a DME cast member, someone who understands DME, versus calling a generic call center and having the CM give his/her totally uninformed opinion.

And I'm very glad that you thought to come here and ask this question!!!:thumbsup2

I thought that sounded a little suspect! It was actually the booking agent at DVC who told my mom (we're staying with her points!). I will call the DME number directly- I knew that the info on the tags was the key to getting everything to the room. Thanks again!!:goodvibes
