1st visit with DS 14, must see dining?

We are 2 adults with our Son 14 visiting for the 1st time.

5 nights 8/31/09 at Pop Century.

Free DDP
Hopper Pass

We're looking for "must see" restaurants or Counter Service that will appeal to our son 14. We do plan visiting MK, Epcot, and DHS plus maybe the Board walk as well as DTD if there is "must see" stuff there. In fact, I think that the Disney Quest may be a spot for us to visit.

We "may" consider getting the Deluxe DDP if necessary. We notice that character visits could be costly OOP where having the deluxe plan will cover that cost.

We enjoy eating, but we don't need to sit in a deluxe restaurant each night of our 1st visit. We like all kinds of food. Our son would be happy with burgers, fries, pizza, etc....

A 14 year old boy can not resist Beaches N Creme. Awesome hotdog with onion rings, then get the no way jose

My son (also 14!) loves the Sci Fi, and enjoys trying the international foods at Epcot. And if you have never been to a Rainforest Cafe, he would probably like that too. We usually spend lots of time at DisneyQuest - just be prepared to join in the fun!

I would recommend the Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge, I think that he would like some of the fun antics that can happen there.
I am not sure as to what you mean about character dining costing out of pocket, but maybe I am misunderstanding your comment. Characrer dinners are included on the DDP. At his age I would maybe just do one character meal, such as Chef Mickeys, where he can get to meet some of the original classic characters. Ok really, so you can take pictures of him with the characters LOL!

My DSs are just 9 & 12, but ESPN on the Boardwalk has been a must do for them for years now.

I've never done the Deluxe dining plan, but for us the regular DP is almost too much food so I'm not sure we would consider the deluxe unless we decided we wanted to eat at alot of 2 credit signature places. Usually, we do all 1 credit TS places except one special meal. Last year we did CRT for my nephew's 4th birthday. Yes, he is a boy but he did enjoy eating dinner at the castle. Dinner isn't really princess centered like breakfast. This year we are dining at Cali Grill for my birthday. Unless you are planning to center the trip around food, I would skip the deluxe DP.

As for places a 14 year old boy would like . . . Sci-Fi (DHS) is probably a good choice as is just about anyplace at Epcot depending on his tastes. Rainforest Cafe at AK is fun. Perhaps Raglan Road or Planet Hollywood at DTD. MK doesn't have too many good dining choices but the resorts surrounding the MK do. How about O'Hana at Poly or or Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge.

I suppose the type of food isn't so important as much as a really cool atmosphere for the 14 year old boy.

The Sci-Fi place sounds cool.
The Planet Hollywood sounds cool.
Hoop dee doo sounds approprate too.

The beaches and cream sundae pic looks awesome!

I read about goofy snacks -- any good?

Any other little gems hidden away?

My son was 14 on our last trip, his favorites are:
Sci-fi
Chef Mickey - Breakfast
Crystal Palace - Breakfast
Planet Hollywood
Raglan Rd. (loves fish and chips)
Ohana

My son would not like the deluxe dinning plan, what he likes more then eating are the rides. It take a lot of time for a sit down meal. Figure arrive 10 min early sometimes wait on average 15 min past ADR time, the meal take maybe an hour. Now if you have to travel for your ADR add more time. Doing that twice a day? Not something my son would want to do. He is happy with most counter service, give him a cheeseburger or a pizza and he is a happy boy.

Hoop Dee Doo is really fun. The food is great & wine/beer/gratuity are included Hoop Dee Doo too. Goofy's in DTD is a great place to use your snack credits! Check out their make-your-own treats, fudge, & candy apple. Whispering Canyon (Wilderness Lodge), 'Ohana (Poly), and Biergarten (Epcot) are also great options for a teenage boy. Have a great time!

Character visits don't require the deluxe plan. You can eat at Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey's, etc. with your regular Free Dining Plan.

My DS is 17 now...he has been to WDW 10 times! If I ask him the "Favorite thing about visiting WDW" he will tell me "Eating at Teppan Edo".....

Please consider Teppan Edo in Japan at Epcot....It's your usual Hibachi....but DS just loves it....maybe it's something to do with playing with knives...

Don't know if your son is interested in all things Asian like mine is....but DS even enjoys the Drum show (mitso...something) AND even enjoys shopping in Japan...(even bought a BOOK the last time! wow).

DS also loves DTD....and Disney Quest.....He Enjoyed Planet Hollywood....(although I thought the food was 'whatever')

He actually enjoys eating at the Castle! (CRT)

Did I read correctly that you were not planning a day at Animal Kingdom?
That is my 12 year old grandson, my 16 year old grandson and my 19 year old daughters favorit park. They love all of the parks, but Animal Kingdom with Everest, the Safari, dinasour and all of the animals is their favorite. You can do the park in a day, so skip DTD and go to AK.

Favorite places to eat:
Sci-Fi~~~burgers, onion rings and shakes along with the BEST atmosphere
Ohana
Le Cellier
Teppan Edo
Whispering Canyon

We are trying Beaches & Cream this trip(paying out of pocket) soooooo excited!
