My sister, Mel, 29 – doesn’t do characters and slightly bemused by the 'Disney thing'
4th October 2007
Today was a sad day, our last full day. Rowan was feeling much better which was good. Mum, dad and Mel headed to Perkins and then had a pretty quite day, packing etc. I do believe a snooze was had too! The four of us went shopping and came back with tons of bags thanks to the sale in JC Penney. We were very excited about our big night out at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. I made sure everyone had their cannibal costumes on and did some face painting for those that wanted it. Our costumes were hand made. I had bought the fabric off of Ebay and mum had helped me cut and sew them. We had great fun and loads of laughs doing it. We also made headbands and sewed feathers and ‘voodoo’ dolls onto them. Necklaces were made of string with large voodoo dolls and some had white cardboard teeth. The shrunken heads were a huge success and wee using balloons and papier mache with the help of Holly and Rowan. The hair was black wool and the faces were given the look that their eyes and mouths were stitched up. We were very proud of them!
We had a big surprise for mum and dad. As they had footed the cost of the holiday as a treat for us all my sister, Craig and I had arranged for a stretch limo to take us to the party. First up the limo drivers face was a picture when he saw me coming towards him. This was not quite a funny as my mum and dads faces when they saw our transport. They were amazed! We all piled in and set off for Magic Kingdom. We had some drinks on the way and just chilled for the journey.
We made quite the entrance at Magic Kingdom. Loads of people were watching the limo as we pulled up. They all looked completely stunned to see a tribe of cannibals appear! We definitely had celebrity status and all eyes were on us as we entered the monorail station. The word of the night was ‘Awesome’ as we heard this every time someone commented on our costumes. Mum, dad, Holly and Rowan rode upfront on the monorail while Mel, Craig and I were asked by another Disney guest how long we had been working for Disney, lol!
Riding upfront on the monorail
Once into the Magic Kingdom we were directed to Tomorrowland for our MNSSHP wristbands. We grabbed some eats and drinks there at the party was not due to start for a while. Everyone started, pointed, grinned and shouted over when they saw us. We were stopped by strangers who wanted to take our photos. I could get used to this, lol! Six cannibals rode Space Mountain. We all had to take of our headbands and shrunken heads to ride safely. Dad was nowhere to be seem when we came out but someone shouted over that they had seen a similarly dressed gentleman to us in a nearby smoking area, lol. Someone else shouted yabba dabba doo – what were they thinking? We were clearly cannibals, lol! We all made a quick trip on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.
