I just wanted to share a funny, but long story about yesterday.....

My Saturday morning usually involves a drive into the city where I tutor my best friends little boy while my husband takes my daughter to ballet. Well as this is Victoria Day long weekend in Canada ballet was cancelled so I was just going in to tutor and then my friend and I were going out for afternoon tea.

I had saved the cruise podcast for the drive in...I could listen to half there and half on the way back. I could not be on the podcast cruise as I am 8 months pregnant.

I listened to the first half on the drive into Ottawa. I was driving my brand new, 3 week old Subaru SUV. (We needed a bigger car with a new baby, a six year old and a 100lb Labrador) I parked in front of my friend's house very carefully. I chose a spot where no car could park in front or behind. I chose a spot with a fire hydrant on the other side of the road so no one could park across from me. It's always the first door ding that gets me. I obsess until that happens.

All went well until I looked out their dining room window and saw a car parked too close to mine and headed the wrong way. As I got closer to the window I saw that the car's front bumper had a dint in it and the wheel was parallel to the road. I looked around for what on earth this lady could have hit.....yes it was my brand new, still new car smell, car. :scared1: I ran outside in the rain to see the damage......the driver starts running down the road. This is a suburban neighbourhood. The street is not very busy.

The police are called and three cars arrive, one even has a sniffer dog to track the suspect. It turns out the she was young and had run home to tell her family, so no need for the dog....we are down to two police cars. I then get a closer look at my car as I thought that only the back bumper was hit. No she completely side swiped my car from the front bumper all the way down the driver's side and around the back. She did not “see” my car parked on the street, but there had been a domestic dispute at home. Since I was not driving, the police sent the pregnant lady into the house out of the rain and told me my car could still be driven and they would bring me the police report etc.

Well after some time we see a tow truck and the ambulance outside. It has stopped raining and I needed to provide more detailed information to my husband. The young lady had not been wearing a seat belt and hit her head.(She is okay.) The tow truck driver loaded her car on the flat bed and the police officer and tow truck guy were looking at my car to see how she could have done so much damage to her car. I went over to check to make sure I could drive home safely. Well the driver’s door could not open and the front wheel had been pushed back so it would not turn. (Point to remember ask tow truck guy don’t listen to police about when a car okay to drive.) That’s right my brand car was then loaded onto a flat bed truck. Now I need to find a rental car on a Saturday afternoon of a long weekend. I call my husband and sent him hunting....21 rental places later he finds one.

.....my car is taken away and then I realize that my iPod is in the car with the rest of the cruise podcast on it. :scared1::scared1: What am I going to listen to on the way home! I start getting upset for the first time........I get sent to the ambulance to make sure I am not in shock and the baby is okay. They ask questions and take my blood pressure. They explain the insurance, “it’s only a car”; ask what I am upset about....I then tried to figure out a way to tell the ambulance driver about Lee Cockrell being up next and the podcast without sounding “off”. I decided against telling them about my imaginary podcast friends, as I was in the back of an ambulance and I could have very easily been taken away for “observation”.

Thanks to the podcast team I got to know a little bit more about myself......my breaking point is not having my new car trashed.....it’s having my DIS Unplugged taken away midway through a podcast...the cruise podcast.

I had to listen to the radio all the way home.....

Thanks for reading this....I knew some of you would understand....and even laugh like I did at how ridiculous it all was. And no I never ended up going out for tea.

First I am so sorry about your new car and glad the baby is ok!!!

Now.. This is one of the funniest things I have heard yet...Hopefully you have gotten your ipod back now and are able to listen to the rest of the show.:laughing:

Beachwarmer, that just stinks! Sorry about your new car.

And I have to agree with Renysmom, the ipod/podcast part of the story is funny! Wise decision about not telling the EMT's the real story of why you were upset.

I think you earned a shout out on the next podcast!

OMG! That is tooo funny. I can see it all happening now. I just read the story to my husband and he was laughing.

But you are right this is the one place that you can come tell this story and we will all understand.

I hope you and your imaginary friends are reunited so you can hear the end of their story.

Glad you are OK and they your "baby" will be fixed.

If you don't mind me asking, where is home? I'm up in North Bay and have family down in the Ottawa Valley.

Hope you get to hear the last 1/2 of the podcast it's great ......

John

Thanks everyone. I knew the people here on the boards would understand.

Great story.

Next time, keep your ipod in your pocket!

I was just so excited that my new car had the outlet for the iPod build in. I could listen using the car audio system....

I hope you and your imaginary friends are reunited so you can hear the end of their story.

I finished listening to it last night on my computer.

The iPod is currently in the police impound yard until Tuesday when the car dealers reopen......But the good news is I should have it by Wed for the next podcast.:banana:

I'm so sorry your car is trashed, but happy you and baby are fine.
I totally understand being upset about not being able to listen to the second half of the podcast!:lmao:

Sorry to hear about your brand new car.

Glad to know you and the baby are okay.

Good thing you didn't try to explain why you were really upset, I'm sure they might not have understood as well as we all do. :)

OMG ROFLMAO That is absolutely priceless! I would have reacted the same exact way. I have low tolerance for situations like that and something small at the end (which could be very big at the moment) would push me over the edge.

Very sorry to hear about your car - that sounds much worse than the first door ding. Good news is they can probably fix good as new, especially the paint.

Hope you and the babe are well.

That is funny. Sorry about the car. The imaginary friend part was a riot.:rotfl:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: :laughing::laughing::laughing:
Thank you. I literally laughed out loud reading this story. I had to tell it to my DH because he thinks I am the only one in the world completely obsessed with Disney and podcasts.

That is too funny..but yet..I totally understand! Glad you and your baby are ok. Your car will be ok, but man..what a hassle!

I totally get how you responded. :cool2: Cars can be fixed but not being able to listen to the cruise podcast? I get it.

If I could - I would tell this woman to g'head and pick a numbah! That surely deserves a spin on the prizematron! :lmao: :thumbsup2
