Well i have only been to Thorpe Park , its such a thrill seekers park and i loveee it its got the new saw ride which is amazin!!

I've never been to Alton Towers since they built the new Air ride, but I would love to got to Thorpe Pak just to go on Saw.
Tricky one this as they both have something I really want to do

Alton Towers hands down - have been to both many times and soooo much prefer Alton Towers. Worth a stay at the hotels as well

I like Alton Towers better as it is much bigger than Thorpe Park - (I don't know if there are more rides there.)

Another vote for Alton Towers. We go to both quite a bit but prefer the rides at Alton Towers more. I also agree a stay in the hotel is worth it (I love going to Caribba Creek.)

We stayed at Alton Towers last year in the Splash Landings hotel. It was really very good. The Sun ran a promotion for free tickets and 50% off hotels and you can currently buy these tickets on eBay. I think 1 full price adult ticket is about £36 and we got 4 tickets for £24!

If you stay at the hotel, they let you into the park an hour early too.

We are visiting next month from USA.Staying in Surrey West Sussex & Lndon where are these parks how easy to get to will have British Rail Pass for 15days .Are they doable in one day which is cheapest place to get tickets.

I know Thorpe Park is in Surrey & I think Alton Towers is in Staffordshire. Thorpe Park is easier to get to then Alton Towers by train.

Chessington is a 10 minute walk from a railway station Chessington Directions

Thorpe Park run a shuttle bus from the nearest station Thorpe Park Directions

Alton Towers is about a 3 hour drive - I don't know about public transport. I've never done this as a day trip from Surrey - I always stay with family who are only an hour or so away from AT.

All are run by the same company and are a good day out. Thorpe Park is has a reputation for being for teenagers and adults (although it also has kiddie rides) and Chessington is more for families (but my teenagers also have a good time here).

If you have any under 10s with you then Legoland in Windsor is also not too far from London.

The nearest train station to Alton Towers is Uttoxeter, Staffs, then its a taxi or bus to the park. To be honest its probably a 2hr train from London to Uttoxeter, then 20min taxi (not sure how often or how long buses take) but it is my fav park of the lot!

I've only visited Alton Towers. Have considered Thorpe in the past but never thought it looked much better (possibly even not as good..) to justify the extra travel time, may try it in the future though.
