Deluxe Dining Plan and Grocery Delivery?

Should we order bottled water to be delivered to the resort or use our snack credits?

  • Don't bother - use your snack credits for water.

  • Get the water delivered and use the snack credits for SNACKS!

What would you do?
Basically, all I'm looking to order is bottled water and maybe a gallon of milk for the kids, some anticbaterial hand wipes and dish soap to clean our our mugs.
Do you think it's worth it?

Thanks!

I wouldn't bother for such a small order. We found the snack credits on the deluxe plan to be plenty to cover drinks and snacks with quite a few leftover.

For the mugs - If you get some cheap sponges, you can put dish soap on them, squish 'em up a little to work it in, and let them dry completely. Cut them in half and you have single-use, pre-soaped sponges that are super easy to pack.

ETA: We do order groceries every trip, even with the deluxe plan, but mostly to avoid Disney prices on beer & wine for lazy evenings out on the balcony. The grocery delivery pays for itself on a 12 pack - $15 12 pack+ $17 delivery fee or $5 per beer at the resort... Kind of a no-brainer. On our next trip on the deluxe plan, we're only ordering a 12 pack, a bottle of wine, a bottle of Mt Dew, and diapers & such for the baby.

we were there in February with the delux plan. we had water, milk and some snacky things delivered. We used all the extra snack credits to brig home disney cookies and treats. the kids loved bringing them home. we threw them in the freezer and they are still enjoying them.

Ship the water to your resort using Costco (you can do this even if you are not a member) and buy milk at your resort gift shop.

Like the pp I'd order the water from costco, and just grab milk from the resort--Those fees are too high for me. I think though with three meals (that include desserts) and 2 snacks a day you'd be able to get enough water with snack credits.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'm still unsure of what to do. How would you go about ordering water from Costco?

And I completely forgot that I can get a 1/2 gallon or gallon of milk at the resort. I was wondering - in place of "dessert" with a counter service meal, could you get a bottle of water?

Have you looked into the Garden Grocer? You order everything online (or you can call them direct) and they deliver right to your resort! We used them for our last trip in January. Worked out PERFECT. Our luggage was lost so we were delayed a bit at the airport. The bellhop held it for us in the hotel fridge. Really, I cannot say enough about this service!!! If you search the DISboards, there is alot of good info on GG. You can order food and non-food items.

Go to Costco.com and do a search for "bottled water". When you go to checkout, it'll ask for your Costco member#. If you aren't a member, it still allows you to place the order, but adds a 10% surcharge(ends up to cost about 80 cents per case of water). I always order 3 days prior to our arrival, and make sure to put our name and confirmation number on the shipping label. Works like a charm.

We also have ordered bottled water instead of a soft drink at the CS places. I'm not sure if they can sub a bottle of water for dessert. It seems to vary depending on the location and the CM placing the order.

Isn't three full meals and 2 snacks enough for a day? That's a lot of food. At breakfast, at least CS breakfasts, you get two beverages usually coffee and juice but you could interchange them and get two waters. Also you could buy a resort mug and then just order water bottles for the parks.

I know some find the regular tap water bad tasting, but you can get a fill up of water from the soda machines at the CS places for free. We just drink the tap water....it's not going to kill you, plus you don't add to landfills.

Just some thoughts.

How much is the delivery charge for the various places. Next trip we will be flying and I would like to stock up.

Does Costco sell the ultra pasteurized milk in a box? If they do, then that sounds like the best way to do it?

Great Tip Renee, Thanks

I don't think so. Their online choices are very limited.

I say no delivery.

On the deluxe dining plan, you get a refillable mug per person plus 2 snack credits per day per person. Using snack credits for water is fine. And it is cold when you want it. And you don't have to carry extra weight in the park until you drink it. You could always ask for a free ice water too. If you drink a lot of water in your room, remember the resort gift shop sells gallons of water, so you can just buy one when you need it.

A lot of people will disagree with me about using a snack credit for water...bring it on :rotfl2: It is not a "waste" of a credit when you can stop, get an ice cold bottle of water, drink it and be done, as opposed to what? Carrying an extra couple pounds on your back, with your cold water bottle sweating all over the rest of your stuff, becoming luke-warm before you are ready to drink it? Just so you can get an extra chocolate dipped pretzel to throw away later?

Milk is $1.75 per quart in the gift shop, it is fresh and we went through 2 quarts with dd2 and dd3. Don't forget they can get milk with every meal, too. Our dds wanted milk when they woke up, but other than that didn't drink milk in the room.

We used Wet Ones antibacterial wipes, the flat packs that have 20 or so sheets per pack. We packed them right in the zipper part of the suitcase, brought one pack per day and used most of them. Much cheaper to just buy at Target and don't add much weight/volume to the suitcase.

Dish soap - as pp stated, just squirt some dish detergent on sponge pieces, let dry, and throw in the suitcase.

Save the delivery fee and savings on inflated prices for extra souvie's!

I don't think the grocery delivery is necessary. I will tell you that we did the DxDP last time and bought a case of water at Target, we had 2/3 of the case left at the end, and plenty of snack credits left over too. Also, you can get bottled beverages with CS meals. For breakfast, we often did the food court and had refillable mugs (for coffee or tea), so we got a juice and another drink, and I always picked a bottle of water.

Also if you have a few people, those snack credits add up, so using a few on water to share really won't hurt your total number.

We are doing the deluxe DDP and I am planning on ordering bottles of water from Costco. Sorry...but I am a sweet tooth and those snack credits are going for tasty treats!!

If you're starting each day with breakfast....that includes two beverages, one of which can be a bottle of water! Might be a problem for those who are coffee + juice folks....but if you just drink coffee, juice, tea or soda....ask for a bottle of water for each person and you'll have the bottled water for your morning adventures and not use a snack credit for it!

We brought a case of water with us, thinking that we would use it (last May), but with the amount of drinks that we already had available on the DxDP (plus the refillable mugs), we didn't really use but a few of them. We did use them up on the drive back.

I think it depends what you drink to be honest. Two snack credits per day seem more than enough if like me you eat (and drink) a lot at breakfast and dinner but not much during the day. However, we intend doing a ts breakfast and a 2ts dinner most nights which will leave 2 snacks per person per day. Although my DH and I will use the resort mugs my DD only drinks water and will get through about 8 a day - even including mealtimes that is all our snack credits as a family going on just her water. She will then want a small snack (fruit or chips) at lunchtime and DS will want about 3 cartons of minute maid during the day and a couple of snacks so we will definitely find a grocery delivery cheaper than paying for water OOP.

Good tip about bottled water at breakfast though - does the two drink rule apply to all ts? Would work better for us if it did as DH and DS are OJ at breakfast only and I'm a coffee girl. Would give us an extra 4 bottles of water.

Where do you order the alcohol from? Also, do you need to be there when they deliver it since it is alcohol? Thanks!

I use WeGoShop.com. Yes, one of us does have to be there with ID for the delivery because of the alcohol in the order, but that's a very minor inconvenience and well worth it to be able to avoid the inflated drink prices for our evening libations. We spend enough on wine/beer with our meals that I've no interest in paying Disney prices to unwind with a drink in our room in the evening!
