Can you get QSDP as part of free dining?

We are already booked for August 22-28 and have added free dining. It's almost time to make ADRs so we have been trying to decide which places we want to eat. We are a family that would much rather grab something quick and hit another ride or attraction than to spend an hour of our day sitting in a restaurant. Normally, when we are out and about, I can't make my DD eat anything. What we are thinking is that Chef Mickey for breakfast one morning is the only TS meal that we absolutely want to do this time. Normally, when we are on vacation we can't get DD to sit still long enough to eat anything.

Point being...........we were wondering if we can change the regular dining plan to quick service as still have free dining? I know that you can pay extra and upgrade to premium dining. The quick service plan is less than the regular plan. Disney would actually save money by letting us do this. Has anyone tried?

I agree it would make sense for Disney to let you do that. If they will or not, I have no idea. However, in the past, during the free dining promotion (and ONLY during that time) they have let you exchange one TS meal for one QS meal plus a snack. (Or something like that).

Nope. As of now they were not allowing people to downgrade ( lots have asked)..they may let you trade TS for Cs credits though

As another person pointed out, they did allow exchanges during free dining in previous years. For us it works out well because you can still eat a couple of TS meals, trade the rest for a cs and a snack. We usually use a snack credit for a muffin or bagel at breakfast. No guarantee they will offer it this year as well, but I would think they would. It helps keep the number of people looking for table service down a little.

would quick service be more cost effective??? just my two cents

We always trade TS for CS plus 2 snacks. We've always gotten 2 snacks per trade or you can get a lanyard with pins or I think last year they offered a book bag style bag (not a backpack). But they only have done this during Free Dining. Another reason we do is because there aren't many restaurants that we like. We'll go for 5 nights and only use 3 TS, 2 for HDDR and 1 for a character breakfast.

Go to the http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2067447 for confirmed snacks. Not just you basic soda, popcorn, Ice cream. I always print it out and take it with me.

Anyone know if Pepper Market is still considered a CS credit? We stayed at ASMu last year and stopped at Pepper Market twice for takeout. Its one of the few places you can actually find a salad that isn't mini sized.

Hello!

Could someone please tell me where we would go to inquire about changing a TS credit to CS plus 2 snacks or Lanyard? Would Guest services at All Star Sports take care of it? Is there a limit to how many TSs we could change?

TIA:flower3:

The cashier at the CS restaurant will give you the lanyard or the snack coupons. But you have to get the 2 snacks at once. Last year we had 8-10 snacks left over so we went to DTD and used them at Goofy's candy store.

You cash them in on a per use basis. For example you order 2 cs service meals, and tell the CM that you would like to use table service credits for both. The Cm will them give you 2 coupons for the snack credits and your receipt will show that you have used TS credits to pay for your meals.

edited to add: there isn't a linit as far as I know (thank goodness) because during my first trip for free dining I did not know to make any ADR's and would have never gotten to use the TS credits.

Hi. When we made our reservation, the CM told me that you can ALWAYS exchange a TS credit for CS. He didn't mention extra snack credits, though.

We are going for 9 nights. We plan on doing 4-5 TS meals and we'll do the rest as CS. The extra snack credits would be a great bonus - you can't have too many Mickey head Rice kristy treats or chocolate covered pretzels :lmao:

Seriously, though, you may be able to do some "on the fly" planning while you're there for some TS, too. You can call dining from your cell and ask if anything's available for that day, once you've decided to eat in a particular park. Or call the night before. We found that breakfast at 10:30, lunch at 2:30 are a great time to get a last minute reservation.

There's no way we'll plan to the level required to be on the regular dining plan, so we're hoping to make it a combo plan. Have a great time! See you there!

Just a thought.....would it work for your family to use your TS credits for late morning breakfast? Maybe just buffets as they are as fast or slow as you want. Go to the parks early for rope drop and then book breakfast ADRs for around 10:30 or 11am. Usually by that time a break will be welcome anyway. We do that often, it makes the DDP work for us since we are not big eaters. Then we use the CS credit for dinner around 5pm.

No this wouldn't work for us because my neice is a diabetic. She has her insulin shots at set times and has to eat within 30 minutes after taking the shots. Also, the additional edditional exercise and high temperatures may cause her blood sugar level to drop suddenly and she will need to eat at odd times. QS will just work better for us. If they will let us use our TS meals for QS meals, that is the same as changing the plan really. We will just plan to do this. Thanks to all who responded.

I completely understand your situation. That being the case I would call WDW and explain what your needs are to see if they will change you to the QSDP. In the past they have only announced the option to change from TS to CS around the start of FD.

They only offer the free snack credits during free dining. We did it in 2007 and 2008. We went in 2005 but TS credits were different then but I think they did offer it. TS Credits being different I meant that tip and appys were included. So people would share TS credits. We did. I love the appy at ESPN and DD ate the meal. I bought adult cocktails and she enjoyed the ice tea. But they ended that in 2006. :confused3 Now you no longer get the appy and you pay the tip.

Are you a Disney Visa holder? I know when I booked my FD they asked me if I wanted QS or Basic. I saw a code for it but I can't find it now.

I don't have a Disney Visa, but I'm quickly learning on this board that I need one just to get the extra perks.

I think that may have been a mistake. They asked me if I wanted the BAsic or Deluxe dining plan, and told me how much extra it would be for the deluxe. I know there is a person specific pincode running around right now that allows the QSDP for selct dates in OCT and NOV, but the general public promotion for the late summer was not included in those choices.

I've been thinking lately of Disney's rationale for giving away free food..this is what I'm thinking...

Disney makes you stay at a disney resort for full rack rate..this let's them keep their housekeeping/resort staff on payroll during slower times...i.e. they don't have as much turnover of trained employees.

The dining plan gets people into the TS restaurants were they have a nice meal and then pay the tip..which helps keep their trained waiters/and other staff working and not going elsewhere looking for jobs since these people get the majority of their salary paid to them in tips.

Not to say this is a bad thing at all..Disney is simple doing a business decision...which helps customers experience a little Disney Magic :wizard:...not a bad thing I say.

Pepper Market is still a CS. We ate there 2 weeks ago, using the QSDP. It was a GREAT value! Would have cost us $92 for 3 adult meals and a kids meal. The gratuity is included with the DDP too.

You might want to try Wolfgang Puck's Express in DTD for CS too. They have awesome food. I had a great salad when we ate there (beef and blue cheese, horseradish ranch dressing). The food was so impressive that we actually ate dinner there twice in one week! :lovestruc
