So WHERE at POP should we ask for?

Here is the information: October stay with our own car. Unlikely to use buses much, or probably the food court. I do like it quiet enough to sleep (even in the middle of the day) AND I love watching water.

We did pay for the preferred room *not sure how much more that is or whether it is worth it?*

The last two times DH and I stayed at POP, we requested a 4th floor room, not facing a pool (I know that is likely to come with more noise). Both times, we were on the 4th floor, facing the lake and found our rooms to be very quiet. We were easily able to nap during the day with a few exceptions of hearing Mousekeeping cleaning the rooms to either side of us (not something that they can help of course!). We brought a fan and that helped to drown out noise as well. Neither of these rooms were preferred and we probably won't ever pay for one. We don't mind walking a bit, we just hope for quieter locations because we do like to nap in the afternoon. Good luck! :thumbsup2 Oh, and since you are bringing and possibly driving your car each day, you may want to look at a map of POP and see where you could face the lake but still be close to a parking lot.

We're interested in the same information. This is our first time at the POP. And we're really excited about it - it looks like a fun place. We've been at SOG the last few times and while it's a beautiful hotel it's pretty quiet and reserved. From the threads on POP, I think it will be a little livelier...
We're going mid August (Aug 10-14) We paid for a preferred room too (due to a very bad experience at CBR when we were as far as far could get from the food court - and I like to walk but that was ridiculous..) So, yes, I know that to some paying for a preferred room is not worth it but after that time we're afraid not to...!!
Anyway, there will be me, DH, DS (14) and DD (9). We just want to be in a fun, easily accessible spot. A view of the fireworks is not a big issue for us because we expect to be in the parks when they are going on!
We're driving down, too.
Thanks for any help you can provide!! :worship:

I would recommend bldg 3 in the 50's facing the lake, 4th floor. Very peaceful, quiet, short walk to Classic Hall and most are standard.

Everytime we've stayed at POP, we've paid preferred and gotten the 50's buildings. I never make any room requests. There were no noise issues at all. We weren't facing the pool or lake though. We always drive and I thought it looked the best as far as closeness to parking. HTH

We stayed at CBR last year and got Trinidad North, the furthest from everything! I also hated it. The walk was forever.

But this time we are staying at POP. I did not request preferred. But from what I have read it seems this resort is A LOT smaller than CBR. I think the furthest rooms are only 1/4 mile from the main building.

I guess we'll see.

That's not preferred, though.

The preferred rooms closest to the parking lot don't face water (buildings one and ten, facing parking). Many other preferred rooms do face pools, except the remaining ones in the Seventies.

No rooms facing the lake are also convenient to the parking lot, although building eight or nine - Eighties on the far side of the computer pool - might come close. But NO rooms facing the lake are preferred.

disclaimer: all above information is from memory; viewing an actual map of the resort may prove slightly more accurate.

disclaimer two: bad experiences with walking distances at CBR should not be transferred to Pop Century, or deter anyone from booking a standard location. The entire resort, from furthest corner to diagonally opposite corner, is about 1,500 feet - and there's no reason except the Guest's own choice (e.g. exploration) that one would be walking that far. Classic Hall and the buses are pretty centrally located.

I have to second the fourth floor of building 3. It was very quiet, we had a great view of the lake, and of the fireworks at Epcot.

I agree w/the fourth floor facing the lake. We too ask for that area when we go. We usually like the 50's area (bowling pin area)

I don't DISagree with building three facing the lake - but it's not in the Preferred category for which the OP is paying.

So if everyone agrees on the 50s facing the lake and its NOT preferred then maybe we should change the reservation AND save the money? Any advice on that..

I don't know, but I am wondering the same thing. I too paid for 'preferred' room, as the TA I booked with said it was much better to stay in a preferred room than standard. I would need a quieter place to sleep since I am going with a 13 mo old who will need to take a nap.

If staying on the 4th floor of building 3 (facing the lake) is the quietest spot and its only standard, then I'm thinking I should switch my reservation and save some money. Agreed???

we stayed at Pop this past week. We originally got the preferred room, then when I found out about the lake view I called back, but was told with the deal I got had no standard rooms left. We were given a second room floor in the 60's facing the other 60's building. it was awesome, quiet, close to the parking lot, bus stops, and food! The only problem we had was even with the ac set at 68 (lowest it goes), it was still warm and humid in our room. We were able to sleep comfortable at night, though.

Maybe I'm not supposed to ask a question on somone else's thread and if so, please forgive me. I'm going to Disney in Sept and I'm not paying for preferred and I would like the 4th floor lake view myself, but if what I've heard is correct, a request for a certain area/building is not a guarantee right? What if she drops the preferred and Disney doesn't honor her request? Is it usually pretty easy to get them to give you what you ask for? Sorry again if I messed up this thread.

Not exactly - so this responds to several other posters as well.

If since quiet is most important, the request should be "facing the lake, building 3, fourth floor" on the theory that one's most important request should appear first.

If you have a car 50s is closest to the parking lot from the parking lot side on 4th floor you can see the fireworks from Epcot
