O.K...please allow me to vent. Just returned from our first visit to Disneyland -loved it- but have to say, by the end of the week, I was ready to scream at the next person who completely ignored the "No Flash Photography" statement and felt they were somehow not included in that rule. 3 rides on POTC...all ruined by an overzealous photographer who just had to have the million pictures of this ride...give me a break!! If I wasn't temporarily blinded by the flashes, I was distracted by the light-up LCD screen in my sightline. POTC was not the only ride this happened on, but I just don't understand why people think the rules don't apply to them, and have no regard for other's enjoyment.

Am I the only one who feels this way????

Thanks...I feel so much better now ;)

It drives me absolutely nuts!! I now do what I saw another irritated guest do..... When someone simply won't listen to that rule, I turn to face their direction and rapid-fire pictures with my camera's flash on. Funny, the ride is dark the rest of the trip! :confused3 Other guests seem to know what I'm doing and why, because I get a sea of smiles.

I haven't noticed that. When that does happen, isn't it usually because cameras are set for the flash, and people forget to disable it? I forget, even though I know the advantagese of not using it.

And why do people want to light up a scene that only looks picture-worthy BECAUSE it's not all lit up??

And fireworks......think about it people....LOL

PS. People are use to using the flash, and don't realize that it doesn't help for far away objects;it actually hurts.)

Nope, me, too! The worst I've experienced was at Soarin' in 2005. There was a large group of Japanese tourists...they took up the middle section...who talked all through the show AND repeatedly took flash pictures.

I kept waiting for the CMs to tell them to stop...but they didn't! Why have a CM sitting there in the room and not have him/her keep people in line!

It made me feel better to know that when they go to print their pictures all they'd have is a blurry white blob (in this day and age, who doesn't know that you can't photograph tv/movie/computers?), but not by much!

I wish Disney were a bit more aggressive about this type of stuff. They know who's doing it. Even if they only have a CM speak to them as they get off the ride....

BTW...on our trip last summer I found something just as irritating. We were at Little Mermaid and the woman in front of me decided to film the entire show with her camera. She held the camera up in front of her...right in my sight lines. What I saw during the show was mostly nothing...her arm and the camera blocked most of the stage, and the light from her camera phone was so bright that you couldn't around it. I could see the stuff that happens on the sides of the stage, but didn't enjoy the show at all thanks to her rudeness.

Hi there ,
Sorry to hear about this. It has been a problem forever, it really does get my blood boiling when people start going crazy taking snap shots .I have to ideas why this is happing one people don't care about the people around them and have no respect and two maybe a language barrier those are the only two I can come up with . I usually say something if gets out of control in a polite way of course :rolleyes1 ... But I don't know what Disney can really do except keep going on that PA system they have in the ride and remind people of no flash photography. Sorry to hear about this again.

I think its because they could care less about the other passengers.I personally have repeated in my best pirate voice over and over: No Flash Photography!
And if that doesnt work, if they are sitting in front of me, I kick their chair. Just lightly over and over until it distracts them from taking a shot. It is funny to see them get flustered and turn around and say" Im tryyyyying to take a picture!!" Then I say again in my best pirate voice" Im trying to see the ride, NOOOO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY!!"
:rotfl:
But seriously, I dont think they care.
I do like the idea of turning to their face and just letting my camera go off a bunch of times till they get it though, thats great!:rotfl2:

I have turned the flash off - and it hasn't worked so I have flashed in the past, but once I have done that just once, I refrain from any picture taking because I am embarassed.

That is completely understandable - mistakes happen. It is the people who do it over and over without regard to anyone else that can be annoying.

I don't think they care either. It happened to us on POTC on Friday. It's just super annoying. And frustrating.

Ohhhhhh I'm so doing this!!!! Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They either don't care or don't know how to turn the flash off. We get soooooooo annoyed.....flash photography on a dark ride can seriously ruin my day by giving me a major migraine....I have to leave the parks after because I get so sick. :( We always say very loudly "NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY" but many times people just ignore us. I then have to hide my face and not see the entire ride because of idiots and flash photos. The best was last trip, the people behind us kept taking flash photos, finally (with me buried in his chest) DBF turned around and loudly said "NO FLASH, I'll fix that for you if you need me to, don't do it again!" and finally the guy turned off the flash so I could enjoy the rest of the ride. :) We wonder too why the ride operators don't stop the ride and remove the person who obviously cannot work their camera.....lol

Thank your for this tip! Our camera's flash is VERY powerful and if we did this to the offending party they would definitely take notice. :thumbsup2

Better watch out, I've heard the Tag Fairy has been visiting these boards lately.

Camera flashers have a different mind set than line jumpers. Line jumpers and cutters have to boldly move up a line while lying all the way. Flash camera users just do not understand that there is no flashing allowed, that using flash on a giant window will get nothing, that using flash for 3D movies dont's work, and using flash on far away stuff does not work.

flash camera users often are not informed and do not get why their photographs do not come out. I just firmly say no flash/no flasho and they understand. The ones who use a flash by accident stop after a couple of times, oops left the flash on. Worst was a herd of tourists in the train's diorama all flashing at the camera.

Stacie you are right about Tag Fairy and being careful, around here anything you say can be use on your tag, muahaha, especially if it has to do with flashing or panty issues.

I'm pretty sure it's the "no" part they don't understand. They just pick up on "flash photography" and they're like "OK!" *flash* *flash* *flash* It bugs me to no end.

Agreed, and I would add that they probably don't even know how to turn off their flash. I'm not kidding either... I was in Best Buy the other day and overheard this couple that was looking at cameras. They wanted a camera that could do it all -- with minimal to no knob turning. That's a very tall order for any camera, but especially a cheap P&S. They complained about shutter lag and missing the shot without understanding why they are missing the shot or why their shutter lags --and the sales girl wasn't helping them either! She just wanted to make a sale. The sales girl was showing them all these different Point & shoot cameras. I was standing there looking at a Bridge Camera, they saw me, inquired and she discouraged them from even looking at it by saying its too heavy. A Bridge camera would be a lot better in low light than the P&S they were looking at. Basically, they wanted an Automatic Point and Shoot. And if they never learn what all the knobs, bells and whistles are for on their camera, it's almost guaranteed they wouldn't know how to turn off the flash or adjust the settings for low light photography. I bet there are a millions of people who fall into this category which is why there are tons of P&S cameras on the market.

I'm so waiting for Gisele to reply to this.

Well, I would just like to go on record, that while I am not a doormat, and I don't take flash pictures, this has not ever bothered me on a ride, let alone ruined the ride for me. I just don't notice it. But I can sure feel for the people that are effected by the flashes with migraines. I would really want that enforced if that were the case too. You have a good boyfriend to stick up for you.

Oh that happened to me this trip, I took some pics with the flash off in the tiki room, then adjusted the camera or something and forgot to turn off the flash. I was mortified and that was the end of picture taking for tiki room.
Did get a good picture of the 'centerpiece though.
