Just got email from the DLH re room request

I had requested a particular room, and had previous communication saying they would do their best as far as I remember, but just got this:
Dear Sirs,

Regarding your request about room number 1206, unfortunately because of a very important press event we are fully booked that day and we can not guarantee this particular room number. By the way, we will be glad to satisfy your second request regarding balloons in the room. We hope you're going to enjoy your room anyway and have a magical stay.

I had asked about balloons but changed my mind when I discovered their astronomical price....this sounds like we might get them anyway now doesn't it, or am I imagining that? Sure whatever room we get will be nice, but the hotel sounds mighty full!

It does sound like you will be getting balloons in your room! How much were you quoted for them? As that sounds like a lovely idea.
We are off to the DLH in June for our first ever trip.
Is room 1206 a standard room or castle club, I am assuming it was for a good reason you were requesting it!
Was it via email or phone you sent your request? Number or address would be gratefully received.

I am sure you will have a fantastic time whatever room you get - with or without balloons!!!

To be perfectly honest I now can't remember where this room was, think it was in the west wing.

They will prob charge you for the balloons once you check in like they did with me....luckily i got there before they put the balloons in.

Aargh! Hadn't considered that! When they replied to my email they wanted prepayment for the balloons.....I'd hope since I haven't agreed to any payment they wouldn't charge me.
It's not that I'm trying to get something for free, I just don't want to pay a fortune for something I hadn't agreed to pay for, IYSWIM.

When they emailed me back they said they would put balloons in the room but didnt mention a price or anything, it was only when i asked at check in about the balloons they asked for the payment. Thats when i told them to stick it where the sun don't shine

Well I've printed off the emails from them so we'll see!
Of course the balloons would be nice but I'd already declined to pay the huge price they were asking...

Thats what they wanted to charge me for 1 measly balloon

This is what they wrote in the first email:
Concerning the balloons, we propose this decoration at the price of 50€.
You will find an attached document to fill in, in order to make the booking for the balloons.

Don't know how many balloons that was for but I have no wish to spend £50 on balloons!!
