What typically happens with a family of four?

Are most tables for a family of four or will we be seated with others?

There is no way to predict. The "standard" tables hold 4,6, and 8. You could be at a 4 top with just your group or at an 8 top with another family. It would be unusual to be at a 6 in your situation because they don't generally seat an adult couple with a family (they seat them with other couples, mother/teen daughter, etc. groups), and they generally don't seat a single parent two-some with a family.

If you have a preference, call DCL and let them know.

Sailing as a single parent, we've been seated with other single mother with one daughter, once with a family of 3 (daughter same age as my DD). As DD got older, we've been with several adult groupings--2 couples and a solo traveler, 2 couples and a grandmother/granddaughter pair, etc.

There won't be more than 8 at the table unless you are part of a large group who requests it.

I didn't know more than one family could be seated at one table. I guess it's because we are a family of 6, and thats why we always had a table to ourselves? I think it would be neat to sit with another family, but guess it can't happen in our case.
Does the Captain ever eat with the cruisers?

The Disney tables seat 4, and pushed together to make tables of 4,6,8 , 12 and on cruise there was even a table of 16.
We were a family of 4 and had a table to ourselves. Other families of four were seated seated at larger tables. No rhyme or reason to it, but if you have a preference, make it known.

Not trying to thread jack, but do you always sit with the same people? I chose the late seating for our Med cruise and now and wondering if I can switch it because my kids might be too pooped by then.

Yes, once you are assigned a table its the same one throughout the cruise with the same passengers (unless someone complains and is moved).

Yes, you are assigned a table--whether alone or with others, you will have the same dinner partners and same servers each night.

We've even been at a table for 18, but that was a special deal (we were asked in advance if it was OK with us). It turned out to be a great thing in many ways.

In general, a family of 6 would be seated at a table for 6. The "standard" tables are 4,6,and 8....and usually each server has one of each size at his station.

Oh my gosh, your wish is MY WORST NIGHTMARE!!

Doesn't mean it'll happen though. We were a family of four and were still seated at a table for eight. I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted our own table but it didn't happen. Fortunately our table mates decided to never eat in the dining rooms, but of course, our service was always delayed wondering where they coming or weren't they? this is why I want my own table. I don't want to be on some other guest's schedule.

We are a family of 5 and were seated at a table this year alone. A first for us. We enjoy meeting people and have always enjoyed being seated with others. Guess it just depends on how crowded your seating time is.

On our 12/27 cruise, we didn't see the captain dining with passengers, but NYE our one table was moved down one table (we were with a group of 29 and had 3 tables), and the captain, his wife, and some of the officers were sitted at the one table we usually had

We are a family of four. We have never asked for a specific seating arrangement. The first time we cruised DCL (kids 4 and 8) we were seated at our own table of 4. The second time (kids 7 and 11) we were seated at a table of 6 with an older couple. We would have enjoyed that just fine except they clearly were not "into" kids, even well behaved ones. We asked to be moved and were relocated to a table for four again. Who knows what will happen next week!

Ugh! DH, myself and DS9 months at the time once were seated with another 3 some. It was horrible. Their kid was 6, not horrible but nothing in common. It is very odd to sit at a table with 3 and 3 (ours was not round). So we all sat next to each and I never could see DH. They also only showed up a couple of nights and we were always waiting and wondering. It got so old so quick and really soured my DCL vacation and view of it.

The next time we went as a group of 5 and ended up asking for a 4 top with a highchair and they accomodated us. I was so happy to not have to depend on strangers.

We have sat with some good families though and enjoyed their company. I really wish everyone could just have their own table and be done.

We've sailed twice as a family of 4 and had two different experiences. The first cruise we had a table to ourselves (our boys were 11 and 13). The second cruise our boys where 13 and 14 and we were seated with another family of 4 who had 2 boys aged 5 and 7. The other family was from Canada and having them with us was fabulous! Our two sets of boys kept each other entertained and gave the adults time to visit and get to know each other. We spent Pirate Night together and seeing their boys' faces light up like our boys' did was a gift! I would have never thought that we were table sharing kind of people, but those memories are ones I will cherish! Take a chance and see what happens! Worst thing is that you ask to be changed. Best thing would be that you meet lovely people who add to your trip!
