Surrendering Passports

I have read conflicting information regarding surrendering passports, which involves a 6:00 am wakeup call at ports to collect them, then hand them in again ..... Some are reporting that this system is no longer in place. Can anyone confirm either way?

Until last year some time non US citizens had to turn in their passports and received them back on the last day at 6 am. It no longer happens.

Hi,

I am from Australia and was on the Magic 7nt Eastern this January 3rd.

We did NOT have to hand in our Australian Passports and we did not have to undergo any early morning immigration check.

When we checked in for the cruise we went to the non US resident line and were advised that we could keep our passports with us for the cruise duration.

What about the early morning customs check when the Magic pulls into St Thomas. Is that still an expectation or has that been discontinued as well?

Cool!!, getting up at 5 in the morning to go through custom is what kept me from not being excited about planning another eastern cruise.
