Can anyone tell me the price of a passport.

Our was around $100...which I will have to redo after getting married...and was told I have to pay as if it's a new one since it's a name change and it's been over a year....

But, since I don't fly overseas, I think I'm going to get the new passcard (looks like a drivers license) since it's way cheaper and will work for what I need it for...

We had ours done at USPS and got the passport books. We did one passport per paycheck until we were done The fee was around $35.00 for the post office. Around $85.00 for each of the kids and $100.00 for my hubby and I. The only downside of having a passport card is that you can't fly with it.

Did they say you HAVE to get a new one? Can't you just bring your marriage certificate when you travel to prove your name change? It's crazy to pay all over again. That fee is meant to last for 10 yrs and it's still a valid passport. Also a renewal is cheaper than a brand new one.

We were at the post office yesterday getting ours. for myself, DH, DD4, and DD7 it was a total of 270.00 to the US dept. of state and 100.00 to the USPS. so a grand total of 370.00 for all 4 of us. We got the book due to the fact that we were there and who know where we will vacation next. I think that if you are just doing a name change it costs less. You can call them to find out the fee.

It's a card you get for crossing the border Canada/US or Mexico/US.

Not much use for a cruise. It's the equivalent of using your birth certificate and govt issued photo ID.

You haven't heard of it because there is no such thing.
There is a passport card, and I assume that is what the person meant. It is only currently useful for land and sea border crossings, but that may change.

The Real ID act requires states to go through a process to issue driver's licenses or ID cards similar to what the State Department does for passports, and the Feds have said the day will come when you need an enhanced drivers license/ID or passport to enter a federal building or fly domestically.

If the Real ID Act is not repealed, and several states don't back down from their refusal to cooperate, you may need to have a passport book or card when you "show papers" to travel within the US.

When I was in High School, we made fun of the Russians for having to show papers to travel domestically. The current situation is genuinely pathetic.
