Restrictions or Differences for Renters

I have tried to look at the various posts for this information, but I am overwhelmed. Please forgive me if I am asking something that has already been answered.

If I rent points from a DVC member, are there any restrictions or differences (other than housekeeping) for me than any other Disney resort guest and/or DVC member? In particular, can we pool hop and/or restaurant hop to other resorts or are we restricted to the one where we rent points? Can we go to pools only at DVC locations or any Disney resort? What about driving from the condo/resort to the parks? Is it free for renters?

Any info you have would be appreciated (or even just refer me to where to find this info). THANKS!

As you're renting, you're likely to be issued KTTW cards that say "DVC MEMBER". For such member perks that that is all that is required - you're golden. However for many/most member discounts you are likely going to be asked to produce a blue member card. You *may* also be charged $9.95 per day should you use the internet connection. Pool hoping is limited to DVC resorts, and not all of them - there are blackout dates. Going to other resorts either to visit or go to one of their eateries is perfectly fine. When you check in you should be asked if you have a car (tell them you do if they don't ask) you will be giving a parking permit to stick on the dashboard which gives you free parking at the parks. And housekeeping is no different for a renter than it is for a member, every 4 days either trash & towel service or a full cleaning.

HTH

Many have reported recently (including myself) that the KTTW cards no longer say "DVC Member". You will need to be a DVC Member/owner in order to take advantage of DVC owner perks, of which Pool Hopping is one of them.

You will receive the same benefits as other WDW resort guests do. Including, EMH, sending packages back to your resort, and parking at the resort parking lots for example. :)

Carol - thanks for info, I'd missed reading that. I knew that this was "in the works" but I'm surprised they've burned through their supply of cards this soon!

Renters will get the same benefits as any WDW resort guest - like free parking at Theme Parks, use of DME, room charging privileges, etc - and can also get the DDP without having to purchase a package with tickets. Renters are not entitled to DVC perks like DVC dining/AP discounts or pool hopping although some may have been able to get those discounts in the past.

Renters have access to any dining option open to any other WDW guest. Renters will be subject to the same housekeeping schedule as anyone with a reservation made using DVC points.

Enjoy!

Maybe we just had a "preview" like the 2010 points chart, LOL! :)

Thanks for all the valuable info. I wasn't sure about the pool hopping, so thanks for clearing that up!

Now, off to rent points! Thanks so much!

Question as an upcoming renter myself.

I just spent a total of almost 4 hours on the phone yesterday trying to get my ADRs. I heard that the DVC members could call member services and get theirs rather quickly. As a renter can I call the Member Services line to make a few changes/additional ADRs (with my confirmation number of course) or does the owner need to make the call?

TIA

Sorry, only members can call member services. One of the first questions they will ask you is what your member number is (and then questions to confirm your identity)

I am a DVC member but always make my ADRs through Disney Dining because their hours are better. They open earlier and stay open later. I find I can usually get through fairly quickly on the Dining number if I call late in the evening.

I'm curious why it took almost four hours to make your ADRs with Disney Dining? Is it their new reservation system that was causing problems? I called them a couple of weeks ago and made several reservations in less than 10 minutes, though I was in the queue a few minutes longer than usual before I got to speak to a Dining CM.

Yes....the new system is in place and they don't have it totally figured out yet.

I will take your advice of calling later in the evening but if you call DD, I would block out about 2 hours right now.

Thanks for the warning. Due to my travel dates, my ADRs were booked using the old system so that must be why it only took about 10 minutes total. Good luck! I hope you have much easier time on your next call.
