Leaving MCO Grocery Pickup

We are flying into MCO. We have rented a minivan. I HATE the idea of stopping and grocery shopping! It is one of my least favorite things to do never mind doing it on vacation. :sad1: so....

1. One stop shop...food and adult beverages....where?

or

2. Order groceries for delivery? Which company will deliver adult beverages with the order?

We are staying at OKW. Thanks!

Last summer we hired a car service (Happy Limo) to take us from MCO to WDW with a 15 min. grocery stop included. They gave me the phone & fax # to an Albertson's (which is like a super Walmart). They also had a liquor store right next door. Anyway, I was VERY impressed with both Happy Limo and Albertson's. We faxed a list the day before with our flight arrival time & exactly what we wanted and noted where store brands could be substituted (8 oz cream cheese, Thomas's pre-sliced bagels, sm. tub margarine, 1/2 gal. 2% milk, 18 pack Miller Lite cans ETC.) When we got there we walked in & I stopped at the office & told them we'd faxed this list and they had this HUGE, HUGE walk-in frig. with our grocery cart in it ready & waiting! All we had to do was take the cart to the check-out!! Then we walked next door to the liquor store & got a couple other items. They would not prepare that ahead of time because of age limits etc but it was no big deal to go in & pick up the couple of items we wanted.

15 min. in & out!!!!!!:thumbsup2 I plan to perhaps use them again this summer & will get full size sunscreens etc. rather than packing them 'cuz they weigh so much in the luggage. Prior to deciding to go this route I also inquired about getting items delivered. I was told that Garden Grocer or something like would also del. alcohol to the resort with your order. I think you have to fax a copy of your ID to order it. Then they have to hold it somewhere for you at the resort if you're not there to receive the order. I didn't want to mess around with waiting on a delivery and they also had a min. order & a fee. We didn't want THAT much stuff and I decided it was not worth the fee.

Thanks. We are in debate at our house. We are going during the busy april season. I am not 100% sold on renting a mini van. I am not sure if I really want to think about driving to and from the parks. With taxes and fees it would be about $280 for the van. I have heard mix reviews about the buses. My thought is....hire a car service with a grocery stop and chance the buses.

I would hire a car service and use the buses. We use Tiffany Towncar and they are wonderful. You get a complimentary 30 min grocery stop when you ride with them.

About the buses, honestly, I have never had a problem with them. I think some people are just so eager to quickly get on the bus and go! Who cares if you need to wait 10 or 15 or 20 minutes for a bus sometimes? Think about having to drive to the parks, then take the tram over or even the monorail, and then it's in the turnstyles. As long as you are going to the parks, enjoy it, take your time, don't feel rushed, and you won't mind if you need to wait a little longer than you would like on a couple of occasions. ;)

We use the ME bus and order before we leave from gardengrocer.com. If you FAX them your driver's license, they will include alcohol with your oder. We found this method much more convenient and cost effective. Enjoy your trip. :goodvibes

We too use Tiffany Towncar and have been since 1998 - they allow a 30 minute grocery stop. - I never thought of having the groceries ready before time - good idea!

Just a third person piping in about Tiffany! They were great and worth the $$
We used them for our 6 day trip over MLK week and it was so painless. They stopped at a brand new Publix and it was fast and easy. I'm a wine drinker, so I got my vino there, along with breakfast fixings and snacks. It saved a lot of $$ but didn't take up much precious vacation time.

Oh, and the busses are not bad. We only had to wait more than 15 minutes one time. Have a great trip.:)

Another vote for Garden Grocer here! We do the same as Brenie. We calculated that it saved us $127 over the dining plan when we were at SSR for 4 nights in January (just DH and I). It was such a stress relief to get to the resort and already have the groceries on site and we did not need to leave our room to get something to eat. We just had Bell Services bring the groceries up to our room with our luggage. I would highly recommend it.

We have a family of 4, and using gardengrocer instead of DDP saved us almost $500. AND we had dinner at GFC, House of Blues, BRBrewery (yuck) and Rainforest Cafe. Also had lunch twice in the parks. This was during a 7-day stay. We also found we ate healthier and didn't eat just to eat because of the DDP.

Enjoy BLT. After your trip, let us know how it was. Our home resort is SSR, but we're trying something knew this year - BCV. Interested in the views at BLT, though.

gardengrocer.com was great. The delivered adult beverages as well. (just ask)

I have always been a fan of the Publix just across the street from the Gaylord Palms resort. It is super convenient, and rarely crowded.

We used gardengrocer in Nov and thought the service and choices for products are great! For us, I scheduled our delivery after 4pm so I knew I would be checked in when they arrived but many people have confirmed that the resort will hold your groceries for you and deliver them when you're ready. I started reading the Dis since we came home and have seen several mentions of being able to get beer or wine through them also.

Since beer and wine are not on the products list- how do you go about including that in your on-line shopping cart? Is it something that should be requested and paid for separately? Just curious- sorry to hijack your thread...

We use a great car service and they give a Dis boards discount and a 30 min. grocery stop. Works like a charm each and every time. :thumbsup2 We have never needed a vehicle while at WDW. The one time we rented a car (our first trip) we drove it to Dixie Landings and it sat there for 5 days until we drove back to the airport. :rotfl:

Another idea that we have done in the past is take the ME to the resort and get a one day rental from the Swan and Dolphin or the Disney car care center from Alamo the next day. You can get your groceries that way, usually you can get it pretty cheap and the savings on a case of beer will pay for the rather than buy at disney!

How do you get the items? Do you have to hang around bell services for the delivery? We will be getting beer and wine..it's a vacation after all!

Once you check into your room you can call bell services and have them delivered at your convenience. If alcohol is in your oder, then someone over 21 with a valid driver's license has to be in your room to receive the order. It's a great service and we've done it this way many, many times. :goodvibes

We always rent a car. We have several children that go and my brother is handicapped. It works better for us to not have to wait on a bus. I really don't mind the buses but if you have the meal plan and are eating outside the parks, it takes forever to get anywhere to eat. You spend most of your time waiting for the bus and have to start about an hour or more to get there. It is a real waste of time. When we are on the meal plan, we usually do a quick trip to the store for needed things for us and the kids. If we were to decide to not do the meal plan, I think we would do the ME and have the groceries delivered.

We used Marge at wegoshop.com. She was amazing, brought the receipts from the two stores she shopped at for us. I sent her a detailed list that I made at our local Walmart. She bought exactly what was on my list, and even went to a second store for the wine I wanted that the Walmart in Florida didn't carry. She didn't charge for the second store which was really nice. There was a $15.00 delivery fee and then the actual total from the receipts. She brought the food directly to our room, we went over the groceries and I paid her. I highly recommend her and would use her service in a heartbeat. Here is the list I sent her.

Now I have a question. If you are paying for the actual food cost for her to shop and just a 15 buck delivery fee ..DO YOU TIP also? I mean I would think so. That means that she is only making 15 bucks off of shopping for someone??? :confused3
