Boozin’ It Up 12/5-12/7 coming ASAP

Meredith, you were just over on my Trip Report, right? I don't know if you were able to skim through all the pages (not to read, but just to look at all the pictures), but I have a lot of Goofy's Kitchen pictures in there, dating all the way back to 1992 and up through December of last year. So you can get an idea of what characters are there and who used to be there.

Anyway, yes, as Michele said, they have a really great buffet. It is not cheap by any means, but the variety of choices is impressive. Even the pickiest of eaters can be satisfied. The quality of the food is good, too. I prefer the breakfast/brunch over the dinner - because it is cheaper as Michele said, but also just because I like the options better. Their first seating is usually at 7:00 a.m. so it wouldn't conflict with your park time. They have everything from the standard eggs, bacon, potatoes (which are all delicious) deal to lox, pizza (both the P, B and J and cheese/pepperoni), worms and dirt, frozen yogurt with toppings, mini muffins, cinnamon rolls, mini donuts, mini Mickey waffles, YUMMY and fresh fruit that is so sweet and delectable it makes me wonder what they did to it, Mickey-shaped cobbler, biscuits and gravy, croissants, bananas Foster crepes, chicken, etc., etc. Tons of stuff to choose from.

The typical characters you might see at Goofy's these days are the regulars, which are Goofy, Pluto, Chip, Dale and Baloo. The 'guest stars' who rotate weeks include Alice and the Mad Hatter, Aurora and the Prince, Jasmine and Aladdin, Belle, sometimes Minnie, etc. It tends to be busier later in the morning and in the evening, but the slower it is in the early morning, the more the characters come back to your table to visit with you or the longer they spend. Character meals are not for everyone because of the money and the fact that not everyone likes to interact with characters that much, but IF you are up for that sort of thing, Goofy's would be a fun way to start off.

Okay, we won't dwell on the booze! We don't want you to get a bad reputation on DIS. (But yes, stick with Rainforest for the frou-frou drinks!;) )

I have been watching your report for a while now. I will have to go back and find the Goofy's pictures.

Oh drool. I am at work right now and so so hungry. That 2nd paragraph alone made my stomach growl. I'll have to see if my mom wants to do this. I'm very glad it opens before the park! I'm totally up for extending my park experience as much as possible.

Try that number I put into my last post, it should get you into Disney dining and they will help you. I love Goofy's Kitchen. It is so fun, we have done all three kids birthdays there at one time or another and they do birthdays right. We have tape from one of them and it is fun to watch.

I'm not sure Merideth if you'd like to because its kind of a guy place, but ESPN Zone has pretty good food and a good selection of girly drinks on their menu. We took my cousin disneL0VE there for her 21st birthday in January and she got this bad boy (I believe it was a raspberry mojito):

It was SOOOO tasty ;)

Either way, I hope you have a BLAST @ DLR for your 21st birthday! If you're looking for just a drink, maybe try the UVA bar at DTD. Its kind of fun because its around a bunch of shops and its outiside ;)

OH another thing you can try if you don't like those two choices, you can try the House of Blues; maybe a band will be there when you guys go!

Oh nooo why would you give me another choice?

Kidding, I'm just very easily persuaded by good pictures and delicious descriptions.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Yep, there are lots of pictures from Goofy's over 16 years in my TR, but you kind of have to scroll through to see them because they are mixed in with pictures from different trips, and spread out.

I agree with Jasmine about ESPN Zone - they have great food. It can get very busy and loud because there are different games on TVs everywhere and lots of sports fans around, and the wait to be seated can be long (which is what happened to us). So I dont know if that's the kind of atmosphere you guys would be happy with or if you want something with a little more ambience. In any case, I like ESPN Zone's food and service too, so you wouldn't be suffering if you chose that.

I had forgotten you could get a hot dog for breakfast too - there are SO many choices at Goofy's that I tend to overlook a lot of it when I hone in on my favorites! That picture is making me want to get back there ASAP! And by the way, if you are a coffee and orange juice drinker, Meredith, those are especially yummy at Goofy's too. Very strong coffee and tangy, sweet juice.

I have my first not Sunday off of work today! I almost don't know what to do with myself...hmmm add to the trip report? SURE!

So as I said in my first post, I have only been to Disneyland 3 times despite living 6 hours away for more than 20 years. When I was young, it was very hard for us to take a family vacation each year. Both my parents worked full-time and had difficulties getting time off together. For that and the whole money reason, I didn’t go to Disneyland for the first time until I was 7 in 1995. It was so exciting! My 2 older brothers and I saved extra change in a giant jar that read, “We’re going to DISNEYLAND!” for months prior to the trip(though I don’t know how much that change really contributed to the expenses of said trip). It was my first time being on a plane. I don’t remember where we stayed, or what we ate, but I remember hugging Minnie, loving Indiana Jones, and being terrified of Space Mountain because I never knew when there was going to be a drop in the dark. I can’t find any pictures from this trip(another thing my family is terrible at: saving/organizing family photos).

My second visit to Disneyland was in 8th grade for Magic Music Days in 2002. My middle school band got accepted to perform. The performance part wasn’t a happy experience. Seeing behind the scenes was neat, but unfortunately the CM’s coordinating our band weren’t very nice. They were upset that not everyone in our band had identical shoes or pants, and were a little rude about it. Putting that behind us though, getting to run free through Disneyland with my best friends was wonderful. We stayed in a hotel that was really far away(in the eyes of an 8th grader) and had to ride a charter bus to and from the park. I just found something that said we stayed at the Crown Plaza Resort. I don't know how far away that really is.
Ok, so I found very few pictures of this trip. Bad thing about disposable cameras was I always took random pictures of stuff and then ran out of room for pictures of me and my friends. Woops.
Sorry this picture looks so bad. I took a picture of a scrapbook page. Scanner is out of order. This was somewhere in DCA. I am third from the left.

Finally, my third trip to Disneyland was another band trip during my senior year of high school in November of 2005. We were really going to Marching Band Championships in Long Beach but took a detour the night before. It was a very short 3 hour trip because we had to perform twice the next day. We ended up winning 6th in the state! Thankfully for me, my parents and my best friend’s parents flew down to see us perform and kept us a few more days in Disneyland while the rest of the band had to go back to school :P.

A group of my band mates in the Indiana Jones Queue. I’m the one in the glasses making that delightful face.

Devin again, but I just love this CM jumping into the picture.

A bunch of us on Space Mountain. Making great faces.

The day after Championships when everyone else went home. My BFF Megan and I with our Fab Peter Pan hats that we both still have. I can’t wait for those frozen lemonades. I’ve also lost quite a bit of weight since this(yep, I’m tooting my own horn) so this is nice to look back on.

Great Pics!! Congrats on the weight loss too!!
Just had to mention in the last pic, with your smile & glasses you resemble Elizabeth Hasselbeck (from the View).... not saying that as an insult....some people like her & some people don't. I loved her in Survivor, Australia but she's way to opinionated for me on the View.
Anyways......... Still looking forward to more as this trip comes to be!!

Huh! I have never heard that before. Interesting.

I should probably pace myself. Still have 15 days to go. Bleh...time travel anyone?:wizard:

If you figure out the time travel thing out let me know since I come in the day after you!!! :rotfl:

I am a planning freak. Once I get started on a project, I won’t stop until I’ve scoured every possible discount and activity that needs attention. Even when I have everything planned I won’t stop looking, just to make sure I got everything right. I have a folder filled with notes about hotels, flying vs. driving, maps, ticket information, packing lists, dining options, etc. Then I rewrite these lists a dozen times because I always get new tips and want my notes to be neat(I’m crazy, I know this.)
Here is my planning folder:

That is a lot of notes.

So I shall share some of what I have collected for our itinerary.

Thursday March 5th
Pack up the car as soon as we are both home from work, and get on the road. 85 to 101 to 152 to 5 alll the way down to Anaheim. Listening to some Disney-themed mix Cds that I have put together. We’ll probably stop along the way for dinner. I get off work around 2 this day(I’ve already requested it), but no idea when my mom will be able to leave, so we will probably be arriving in Anaheim rather late.
We’ll be staying at The Desert Inn and Suites. $59/per night wasn’t going to get passed up. Plus the location is great. I called them once about our late check-in but I may have to call again to push it later. I hope this won’t be a problem.
Anyone know if I should be worried about parking when arriving so late?

I have the tendancy to over plan myself. I research and research until I know everything I possibly can. And I have been a ton of times but I still research. The planning is one of the things I enjoy most about the trip. Parking may be bad I don't know for sure though.

We stayed there on our 2005 trip (we were there end of June thru July 5) it was super crowded & the parking lot was a nightmare. BUT we also had a full-size van & were unable to use the parking garage & only could park on the first level (which was always full). This being said, a smaller vehicle (?) & being first part of March, it shouldn't be a huge problem. If they do have parking overflow, they allowed you to park in the reservation area, so coming in late shouldn't be a big issue.

ALSO: My notes, email confirmations, itinerarys (whole schedule & daily schedule) & the restaurant menus for all the places we are going to are kept in a 3 ring binder...... so I wouldn't say that was over doing it.....lol

It's so bad that I have been doing this for 5 months straight! I have not had one dip in my planning frenzy. Mostly, the Dis' fault. I guess it's good that the planning keeps my excitement alive. Helps the wait go by a little faster.

We are driving a Saturn Vue. Not big. I would hope that they have solutions for full parking but I was unsure. We would like to not have to use the car again until we leave, so parking the first night and just leaving it there would be ideal.

Look at me our trip is still over nine months away and I am planning away. It drives my excitement that is for sure. I am a big fan of park and don't get in the car again until it is time to leave. That is one reason I ama planning now because I want to lock in a place to stay within walking distance at the end of the day.

Friday March 6th my birthday!:cool1:

We're going to wake up early and walk over to the park. Like an hour before the park opens? The park opens at 9am, so we'll be there at 8am. We’re going to use my free entry to upgrade to a 2 day park hopper, and we need to buy a ticket for my mom so we’ll have to deal with that before we can go in. I must get a birthday button so I can feel extra special. I think we will head straight to Fantasyland to be sure to do as many of those rides as we can.

My mom and I are both Fantasyland freaks so we would like to hit each of those rides at least once, hopefully a few times. We’d also like to go on HM, POTC, Indiana Jones, Jungle Cruise, Star Tours, Roger Rabbit, and wander around Toon Town. My mom doesn’t like roller coasters and I don’t need them to be happy so we’ll probably skip over those. I’d much rather we just spend the time together loving Disneyland.

Since there are only two of us, we'll have to keep asking people to take our picture or use the Photopass people to within an inch of their lives. I think we'll do both. If I ask them to also take a picture with my camera, will they assume I'm not going to buy a cd? I probably will but would also like some on my camera to make sure I get good pictures. So I don't want them to not take a lot because they think we won't buy.

There are a few food items that I really want to try sometime during the trip. I’ve been drooling over the potato soup from Carnation Café for months, must have a giant corndog, churro, beignets, and maybe a tigger tail.
I don’t know when we’ll do DCA on Friday, maybe in the afternoon. We’ll play that by ear.

I think I've finally decided(with help from the DIS) to go to Rainforest cafe for my birthday dinner. So I need to call and make a PS.

I am a big fan of the photopass thing and yes they will take your picture. Or at least they did in March of 2007. I think that they figure that they will get people to buy pictures once they see them online and I am sure that wuite a few people do. I love POTC. That is my favorite ride and I would ride it over and over again.
