Greetings all

DH and I have seriously discussed doing our first ever marathons ever next January at Disney. Him the full and me the 1/2. He is currently in Iraq and I have just started running ever. We decided that when he returns the 1st of April - if I am still hooked on running - we would register. By past turn outs - will be be taking a chance of them both being full?

And - for the best part - what hotel should I book? I know I have a lot of information right under my nose on these forums but I am already planning my June and December Grand Gathering and would like to add this to my plate.

Thanks all

joanne - The half may be an issue. You can see percent full info here. I've neevr seen full fill taht early, even for teh 15th anniversary.

Resort is up to you. Many liek to book through Anthony travel. There are also travel companies that you can do your registrations through too. Come April, you could likely still get into the half, if it was full, with a travel package.

All resorts have transportation to WExpo. PO and OKW are the clsoest to teh start.

HTH!

Thank you very much
I had seen that the Goofy's Challenge was already 75% full and that is what caught my attention.
We just need to work out logistics with the kids and such and it's challenging to really discuss while DH is in Iraq. I guess I will keep training and if its meant to be it will be .

Do know that the transportation is at all the resprts - it does start bright and early (3am!) you dont want to miss the bus!!

In '08 (I was mia for '09) the WISH team gathered for dinner Friday night - and I know a lot of marathon/half stay at pop as well!!

Truly a wonderful experience, and it doesnt matter where you stay!

btw have you heard about Disney and the Military ticket? 5 day for $99?

Great goal and good luck to both of you:thumbsup2.

I want to enter the 2010 Marathon as a first timer, nice goal for my 60th, so DW went to DVC site and asked about when the full fills up. The reply we got was that it fills around 1-2 months before event. I will be waiting a little longer before entering.

Things were going nicely until this past Sunday when I fell while unloading our motorhome after our long weekend at FW and WDW. Hurt my left knee and have not run since doing 3 miles at FW last Saturday. Did 20 very easy miles on the bike this morning and will see how the knee feels tomorrow.

With Disney expanding the WDW Marathon to a record 22,500 in 2009, it basically filled right before the race. Rumors are the may add more and do a wave start next year(like the half).

Robert - can you explain the difference between a wave start and how the full marathon was started this year? I am confused. Thanks

The marathon uses 2 different starts(courses for first 3+ miles) with different corrals in each start.

The Half uses 3 different start times(waves) with different corrals in each wave. The waves started at 5:50, 6:00, and 6:15 respectively. They were all on the same course.

See this at my website http://disneyrunning.com/09fullchutes.html

Thanks Robert - I see the wave start is at staggered times and the other starts all at the same time. Since I did the 2009 marathon I know how that started but wasn't sure how the half started. I guess I have done one race that had a wave start - the EEC - I would assume was wave start since each corral started approx 5 minutes after each other.

I am most likely going to do the full again this year I just won't sign up until much later in the year (unless they pull a price increase like they did last year or if I see it filling up)
