I've had a small rash on one side of my face for a few months, but it did disappear, for a couple of weeks while i was on anti-biotics after my back operation... its now become quite dry and sore so i went to the doctor yesterday -
diagnosis Rosacea-got 2 prescriptions. one for gel and the other anti biotics
I dont really want to go down the route of taking tablets for a long period again-so has anyone suffered from it/got any advice on how to deal with it??
Thanks!!

I can't believe you posted this, Jeanette!!! I've got a real problem at the mo - my face has recently become so red and sore that I have to wear loads of concealer (not a great look!) and my eyes are sore too. Every so often the one side of my face burns up which feels/looks just awful... :sad2: Anyway, I googled my symptoms and it said 'rosacea' so I've been meaning to make a Drs appointment...

What anti-bees have you been given? I take oxytetracycline and have done every day for at least a couple of years but for little rash of sore spots that appear on my chin and around my eyes - now I am wondering if that's rosacea too..? I just assumed it was a psoriasis thing as most things seem to be for me...

I was diagnosed with Rosacea a few years ago, I had the classic red butterfly mark on my face. Took me several years to get diagnosed though! Anyway I was prescribed a cream rosex (sp?) and 3 months of low dose antibiotics and it was amazing. Literally very quickly the redness went. After the 3 months was up I've only had to use the cream about a dozen times in about 2-3 years and it sorts it out very fast :thumbsup2

BTW just noticed the rosacea advert at the bottom of this page :rotfl:

Well, I've just got off my bottom and made an appointment to see my GP on Friday morning. Can't hurt as all my skin's beeping awful at the moment - goodness knows why... :confused3

sounds like you have it too...the doc shone a light on my face and said my chin looks red as well -he then showed me pictures of people who have it at varying degrees. I'm wondering if its an age thing as well- us being 46 this yr an all ;)
I have been given tetralysal 300 anti's and metrogel.

Glad your getting it sorted, let me know how you get on!!

Jo i originally put this rash down to just having a patch of dry skin, but as the original amoxillin i was on for my back cleared it up temporarily, i then thought it must be more than that. glad you got yours sorted, i suppose i'd better give these tabs a try and see if there is an improvement.

Three words sum up my morning - waste of time!!!

Went to see the Doc this morning and honestly I was nearly in tears (NOT my style at all!!!) by the end of the session. DESPITE the fact that it already mentioned rosacea in my notes he was adamant that the burning, stinging sensation on my face and neck was probably as a result of "the cosmetics you ladies put on your face!!!" I couldn't beeping believe his attitude and left without any joy at all - his only piece of constructive advice was to double up on my anti-bees for the next three weeks... :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

So I'm going to call my dermatologist directly and see if BUPA will pay for me to see him asap...

How are you getting on, Jeanette?

Thats a disgusting attitude :sad2:

Karen that's terrible, I must say though that I saw several Dr's over quite a long period of time before I was diagnosed. I hope BUPA sorts it

I hope you get it sorted out Karen, your doc should be more up to date with these conditions than blaming it on cosmetics- its probably the cosmetics at the mo that is making the condition worse. There are loads of things you have to try and avoid- hot drinks, alcohol :scared1: sunlight, citrus fruits, stress  etc.
I have had 2 anti b's now and i must say fingers crossed, touch wood, it has subsided a little bit- i'll give them a go for another few days or so and see what happens, if it clears up then great! downside is i know it will be back on and off.

What an interesting thread! :thumbsup2

I've self-diagnosed that I've probably got rosacea, but I didn't realise there was anything that could be done to remedy it - I thought I could only conceal it. My father had a very red complexion and my elder brother's is getting more noticeable, so I just assumed I was going down the same route, thankfully a little more slowly!

Maybe I'll consult my GP for a proper diagnosis and take it from there. Meanwhile, back to the concealer! ;)

Thanks for posting! :flower3:

I have had it for years and years, and my GP who diagnosed it, at least 15 years ago, just handed me a prescription for steroid cream and told me it would probably make it worse, but that was all that they could do! So I didn't bother using that.:lmao:

I have left it alone since then, but you have made me consider asking about it next time I see the latest GP.:goodvibes

I have had some luck calming it down by using the Avene thermal range, it is a bit pricey, to me at least, but it is made specially for this sort of skin problem and seems to work quite well.

Another trick I have just found, from the founder of the Beauty Bible series of books, is to drench cotton wool in milk and wipe that over your face instead of moisturiser after cleansing. It smells a bit strange, but seems to do the trick.:thumbsup2
