Oh my goodness what a complete nightmare!!! I wish I could enjoy the snow I really do but after the events of the last few days I don't want to see any more for a while!!
I've been at home in Kent this weekend for a family thing and was due to fly back to uni last night in time for my lectures and handing in an assigment that's due. Well I arrived at the Gatwick yesterday evening after a 2 hour journey on the M25 due to the snow where I was rushed through check in and then pushed on to security, I have to say I was a little dubious about whether the flight was going ahead due to the weather but I was assured it was, so onwards I went to security, having only 20minutes to clear that and get to the gate. Well just being my luck the security belt breaks down so we have to move all our stuff to the already crowded one next to it. It took about 15minutes to get through the belt and as my trousers set off the alarm I had to have a full blown body search too, believe me I was cursing!! By this time there was just a man and me left so he kindly got my bags off the belt for me (he didn't look the type to be a disser but if you are THANKYOU!!) and we ran to the departure lounge... we were greeted with 'please wait', fantastic! We waited for about and hour and a half when they finally cancelled all flights, so of course mass panic ensued and everyone rushed to the information desk, we were escorted back through to the check in side of the airport and left at the Flybe desk where they automatically transfered us on to the next flight which was in the morning and booked us a hotel room if we needed it, which I did. They put us on a bus and off we went!
The hotel, the Cockthorne I think, was amazing! Like a palace, they made a special dinner for us, which Flybe paid for, and then provided us with breakfast in the morning, both of which were fantastic!! The room was really comfy too, I settled down in bed and watched the superbowl, so I can't complain too much!!
We hopped on the courtsey bus back to the airport in the morning (again paid for by Flybe) and I arrived at the airport in plenty of time for the morning flight, flights were coming and going so I was hopeful that ours would go too. The time for the flight came and went, as did another hour, eventually we were told it was delayed till 11am (from 9:40) which again came and went. Finally we were boarded at 11:35 and then sat on the taxi stand for a good hour waiting to be 'de-iced'. We took off at 12:50, touched down in Newcastle at 13:50 and finally at 15:00 I'm back in my uni room 21 hours after I left my house in Kent. I have never been so glad to be back at uni!!!!
