Oklahoma Ice Storm 2009

I am in southern illinois and we have inches of snow on top of inches of ice i wish we was at disney. This is our 1st major winter accumulation and i sure hope its our last. We went sledding for about 2 hours and i have had my full for the rest of the winter.

Us too here in Louisville, KY. They actually called off school for the rest of the week early this afternoon. That's surprising for here because yesterday morning they waited until about 5am to do it. We have snow on top of ice on top of snow. I think they said 100,000 without electricity because of the ice weighing down power lines and breaking tree branches off. Sure wish I was in WDW right now where it's warm and sunny. Of course I guess I can wait until June, it will be here before I know it.

I'm in Norman, and I'm actually enjoying being forced to stay home. I'm finishing the cleaning I started last weekend! It's melting pretty rapidly around here, but apparently all the melty slush will refreeze tonight. I work for the schools, but I haven't heard anything about tomorrow as far as snow days go.

We're using our snow day(s) to write a trip report so we can relive our trip from two weeks ago.

Even I'm not looking at the ice, still wishing that we are in Disney. 10 months to wait until the day of the trip comes. A little bit excited. :lmao:

Have a nice day everyone. :)

Greetins to you all going through the ice storm this week. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!
We went through the same here in NH before Christmas. Not fun!
Hope everyone is managing to stay warm and safe and keep your spirits up!

Another Okie here. I'm about 50 miles north of Tulsa, and we got some pretty wicked ice, but it's all gone now, thank goodness! Hope you're staying warm and safe!

I am in the still planning stage of our 1st trip and going insane from 4 days of being in the house with my 5 year old.:crazy2:
I live about an hour east of tulsa.

Deja vu of what happened in Massachusetts and New Hampshire before Christmas, which in turn was deja vu of other recent events I forget the dates.

Do you think the power companies have learned any lessons, or is there anything they could do this time to improve over what happened in New Hampshire and Massachusetts?

The towns should be doing what they have to do in order to clear the streets. In all fairness, days when streets are blocked don't count as days the power companies did not respond to outages.

Kids should be getting a head start on upcoming school work, not writing trip reports. This way they won't fall far behind when the family goes off to Disney as they planned months ago, missing some makeup school days.
