HELLOOOOO Disney Lovers!!! My name is Sara and I LOVE Disney (to the point where my Dh thinks I am a loon at times). I am the mother to two wonderful kiddos and have wonderful hubby who just doesn't understand the reason I am planning our Disney trip a year and a half out.

A little more about me and the fam. I am 25 and have never been to the World. My mom and day weren't exactly the "kids come first" type, but I literally dreamed about it since I was a child. I love all things disney and completely believe in the "magic". I am a Princess Aurora fan and have a ton of her "toys" that are slowly being passed to my own little princess.

Dh is 36 and although he looks forward to Disney and loves all Disney movies, he just does not "get" it. He has been to Disney once with his exwife and her and her mother's idea of Disney was one day while they were in Florida. No rides other than Small World and no fun according to Dh.

The Kiddos: Ethan is 3 and is a complete joy. He is into Mickey Mouse, Cars and Wall-E. He is our little comic and keeps us laughing all the time. He knows Mickey lives at Disney World and he is dying to see Playhouse Disney Live. Lorelai is 1 going on 14. She is our princess and a handfull. Her favorite doll is her stuffed Aurora doll and she pushes her in her stroller all the time. She uses her blond hair and blue eyes to get her daddy to bend over backwards for her.

We are planning our first trip for Sep. of 2010. Dh is solid on this date and I have been unable to move him. He wants the kids to be able to "do" more and he thinks 5 and 3 are good ages. He however told me that it can be a 9 day trip and I can go "all out". I am still working on him for a sooner trip. I am trying my hardest everyday to get him to agree to a trip at the end of this March over mine and DS's birthdays. But so far it is a big no. Wish me luck!!

Welcome.I do not think you are goofy I just love planning my Disney trips. The longer out I start it fills the void of not being there.(Now that is goofy). Personally I do not think you are ever to young to go to Disney or to old for that matter.Even if your kids can not go on rides there is always the resort pools.I took my brother and his family like 3 years ago and he had a one year old and omg was she in love the characters and just loved feeding the ducks at the parks

Oh my dear welcome to the wonderful world of Disney!!!! I am the same way as far as planning my vacations even though are budgets are tight and money is an object going to Disney and seeing magic appear is a priceless gift that we can give each other My only advice is dont overplan just plan to make your dyas go easier. Because you cant control life but you can get an idea what your going to do on certian days. But I think planning the trip and getting as much information is almost as fun as going but go and have fun and whenver you go down there i hope you enjoy.. pixiedust:

:welcome:

Can certainly relate to your feelings. None of my friends get it, but fortunately my DH is nuts about Disney too. I think you'll find a lot of people here feeling the same and you'll fit right in. The planning is half the fun, so enjoy all the good info on this site. I bet after your trip, your DH will feel differently after experiencing it with those precious kids you described. pixiedust:

princess: Welcome to the boards Sara... Your in the right place.. were all a little goofy! I am so excited for you... planning your first trip as well as your family's is amazing! Talk your husband into going this Sept .. (thats what I am trying to do w/ my Dh too!!!:thumbsup2 ) I keep telling him BUT ITS FREE DINING TIME!!! He too believes the kids are too small and I keep telling him BUT THEY ARE FREE!!! (another thing you can say!!:thumbsup2 ). I took my oldest DS when he was 15mo and I can not tell you how priceless his face was when he saw playhouse disney. I cried the whole entire show! This sept my kids will be 1 & 2 1/2 and I always say its great to have the kids traveling at such an early age. As long as the parents can handle it then the kids will be fine! Give your DH the same lines I am giving mine and maybe he will give in... (otherwise you might be seeing me Sept 2010 as well!!) :rotfl2: They also do this bounce back offer when you go to Disney... tell your DH why go all out next year for one trip when you can get two for the price of just one!!:goodvibes .... i'm in the same boat as u and us nuts have to stick together...:upsidedow :lmao: :rotfl: LEt me know what happens...

Oh... and before I forget... I would have gotten divorced from that evil witch too! Who thinks Disney is a one day thing!!! Disney is all about fun and magic.. he will see for himself because this time he is w/ u...what disney is all about... A wonderful family, great times and the magic will be sprinkled all over you!

Wow - I could have written this 32 years ago...;) I get really sad if I don't have one visit to Disney World coming up soon and another one in the long range plans so I don't fall apart the last day of the first trip:confused3 This place lets me express how I feel about my visits, knowing that others do the same thing:grouphug: . My first real trip to Disney World was 1999 on a four day park hopper pass, staying in some place I don't even remember in downtown Orlando. From that trip on, I vowed to visit again, stay on property, and experience more magic! I've gone solo, with my BFF, with family, and with my SO. Every trip more magical than the next. My next goal is to become a cast member (just sent a resume' yesterday :badpc: ). Whenever you go, it will be magical. Just remember, especially with little ones, to let the magic happen and be relaxed enough to recognize it when it does. It's alot like the kids playing with the box instead of the toy on Christmas morning - it's not always the magic you expect:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Sara, I agree with you on pre-planning as far in advance as possible. The more you research, the more knowledgeable you become and can plan an itinerary suited to your family needs. My husband says I enjoy the planning almost more than the trip. But, I agree with DH on waiting till the kids are older, ESPECIALLY since his level of anticipation is low. When the kids are older and can ride more rides and share their excitement vocally with their dad, they all will have many more happy memories of the adventure. I first took our oldest for a very short trip when he was two, and we had a great time. But did he remember it? No. And give DH credit - 9 days and go all out!! That is not a selfish man, and he obviously has confidence that you can plan well. Anyway, those are my thoughts. Hope you have a magical time whenever you go.

Welcome to the DIS and congratulations on making plans for your first venture to WDW.

I would be happy with the September and 'go all out' green light from your hubby.

September is a great time to go, not too hot, not too crowded and you stand a good chance of cashing in on free dining or some other promo that WDW offers during the Aug-Sept time frame.

9 days will be great! Your hubby is only a couple of yrs. younger than myself and I am a Disney fanatic. While no promises can be made, there could be a good chance that your hubby gets bit by the bug after 9 days in the World. Based on the description of his first experience, it did not do proper justice to a trip to WDW.

A few tips that work for our family. We have two DS's, 3 & 8. Try not to over do it. Plan for down time and try to resist the urge to 'see it all' and 'do it all'. You have plenty of time to see a ton of stuff at all the parks so it might be a good idea to pace things out. This helps with the kids and the hubby :). A lot of people have different strategies that they will offer up. Some people are 'rope drop people', some are they type to go back to the room at noon for a break, some just get up when they get up, some are afternoon - evening people. Some people are rigid planners down to what rides at what time frames, other's go with the flow.

My point is this, consider how your family operates on a daily basis. While you will likely have the most excitement and information about the trip, everyone in your family will be their too. We plan our vacations around how our entire household functions. This came after we got a few trips under our belts and learned some valuable family lessons. our past few trips have all been different but all fantastic. I believe this is due to the fact that the trips have taken into acount our family habits (bed times, waking times, eating habits, patience levels, individual interests, etc...).

I see a lot of posts with people deciding everything for a family and it appears that they are trying to impose their way of things on the whole household. Our motto is that vacation is Family Vacation, that means it caters to the whole household, not just Daddy or Mommy.

Anyway, there are lots of things to do beyond the parks. If you need help in ideas, you are at the right place. We DISr's love to impart our wisdom upon those in need (and those who aren't :)

Good advice that I would second.

With small children especially I would not hesitate to even have some non-park days that you just relax and find a playground or pool and just have down time. It can really make a difference in your overall trip experience.

Thank you all so much for your welcome!!! Thank you for all of your tips! I hope to get to know all of you so much more!!!!

I almost had DH talked into a trip at the end of March today and then he turned the tables and convinced me to that waiting was worth it. DD is very grumpy when we travel to see family so we are hopeing that she will grow out of it in the next year and a half. We have about out of town trips planned for the year so maybe she will get use to it. DS can pass out at a restraunt and be happy, LOL.

:wave2: welcome!

kid's nite out FTW!

where are you thinking about staying?

All depends on price. I actually got a 40% code last spring, but we couldn't use it because of finances. If we get another I am aiming for AKL, if not I am thinking POP.

:welcome:

I understand, as for me the planning is as much fun as the trip itself!!!!!

Have fun here, lots of info!!!

He is def greatful and will frequently say "Can you post about this or that and see what peoples opioions on it is?" I always laugh and say of course dear I would love too!

Welcome to DISboards. A first time trip would be a great and magical trip for the rest of the family. Counting days is not that bad, it keeps your excitement in a high mode. A year of planning is not a long to wait.

Have a nice trip coming.:)
