Just booked an RCI 2 bed on cash.......

Just thought I would share since DVC just made the switch to RCI.

We are going to Williamsburg next week. Originally planned to use my DP's for a 2 bed at Marriott Ford Colony. Granted a II Resort no longer availble to us but Low season 207 pts.

That fell thru, as now most of my family is not coming. No biggie, I will use the points later.

So I get online and start checking for our 3 night stay for the 3 of us that are still going. I have the Entertainment book so I check their site.

Greensprings Vacation Resort comes up for $65 a night!! A 2 bedroom!! Hmmm...... I could use my points or I can pay $230 total incl. tax and fees.

Anybody need to rent 23 points? (this is not a solicitation to rent points, just a joke)

For comparison, I called Marriott and their price for a 2 bed was $135 a night for the same dates.

I'm not very happy with the switch to RCI as it looks like our first exchange to Kauai last Oct will be our last.

On an RCI "Last Call" I checked and it's coming up for this weekend at $249 for the whole week at Greensprings. It's got a silver crown designation, so it should be pretty nice.

Since you're only using three nights, that rate you got is better for your purposes. Good for you.

On II (Interval), Marriott's Manor Club (1 bedroom) is coming up for $352 a week on a Getaway checking in this weekend. I saw a 2 bedroom for $442.

Off season, you can definitely get some good deals on RCI and II for cash. But if you only need a few days, sometimes you can't beat that Entertainment rate!

I don't know if any DVC members have called RCI and asked if they can join individually or not. Might be worth a try. The only thing they can say is no, I guess. I know II wouldn't let me do it until I bought something other than DVC as Disney was the corporate member. We bought a dual affiliated resort that's actually affilated with both RCI and II. Of course, our Marriott is only with II.

Our family uses our RCI and II accounts to book the Getaways and Last Calls. RCI charges them $59.00 for a guest certificate and II charges them $39.00 for the guest certificate. They only need a guest certificate if we're not with them at check-in, though.

I'm with you on that Entertainment book. I get one every year - I use the coupons for National and Alamo car rentals in Orlando. That's great about the $40 rebate. Awesome.

I see RCI members post about last calls - If you own RCI points I think you can book a last call at 9K points plus a booking/exchange fee of a hundred something dollars - do all of the last call offerings also have a cash rate (like the $249 you mentioned) and if you do buy the last call with cash- do you also have to pay the RCI booking/exchange fee.

"Last Call" is a cash-only rental. There is no additional exchange fee, but you typically do have to pay tax (at the rate of the resort's jurisdiction, I think, but I've never worked too hard to figure it out.)

No, Last Calls on cash have nothing to do with exchanging points or weeks. It is just excess inventory that they would rather get something for than see it go empty. When I bought an RCI Last Call for a Sheraton one bedroom last fall, all I paid was the $219 (and some tax) for a total of about $243 for the whole week, so no exchange fee on top of that. Last Calls are for excess inventory within 45 days of check-in. The two bedrooms are priced at $249 for the week (plus tax).
