Car Rental Question

For all those very wise folks on the transportation board-

How much should on expect to pay for a car rental in Orlando? For 1 week, 3 people(2 Adults, 1 child 7).

The reason I am asking is we always stay on Disney property and use the ME, but this year I am considering taking advantage of MILs timeshare and possibly staying at Bonnet Creek or Orange Lake. If we do this we will want to rent a car. The last time I rented a car was Ireland and with the whole pound thing it doesn't bother comparing. I also had a rental when my car got intimate with a deer. I remember that it turned out to be a LOT more than I expected because of taxes .

So I was wondering what is a good rate to get?

Hope this makes sense-it's late and I am cross eyed.

check out kayak.com It will let you search many car rental companies at once and does list the full, final price. We've rented a car for a week many times in Orlando, but I can't answer your question. The rates are drastcially different depending on what time of the year you go. Our rates in April were higher than in September for every company.
Last trip, I used EZ Ca Rental before (found them on kayak) and it was really a great experience. Since they aren't a national company, I think many people were afraid to use them. There was no line at the counter, the gentleman that helped me was super professional and polite. He let my DD7 select the color of our car, so she was just thrilled. Drop off was super easy as well.
When we go back in April, we'll be using them again.

There's no really "typical" response. I was able to get a midsize car for eight day for less than $65 TOTAL back at the end of September. There's a current thread from someone who's having trouble finding a rate lower than $500!

You really do need to shop around, more for rental cars than other travel components. Use Mousesavers.com for car rental codes; and once you've made your reservation, keep checking. If you find a better rate, make a new reservation, then cancel the old one (CAREFULLY if they're with the same company, said the silly person who has experience cancelling the wrong reservation).

Also consider Hotwire.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea rates could vary so much-that's why I figured I'd ask here-you guys know the scoop . I love using the DME and avoiding driving but if I am getting the timeshare for free it makes the car rental worth it-especially if we can get in to Bonnet creek or Orange Lake.

Like I said the last time I booked a rental on vacation-I was 25 and just happy they even rented me a car. I'll just keep an eye out for a good rate!

In years past, $175-$250 or so would be a good out-the-door price for 7 days during a period of solid demand (i.e. not September, January, etc.) By "out the door" I mean with all fees/taxes included.

Thank you very much or those numbers! It helps a lot. I am just out of the car rental game and when you punch in the times and those numbers come back I can't help wondering if I am getting a good deal or if I could do better. Thank you for your response .

Right now, I'd take anything less than $300 for a week as a pretty good deal for late February. As I say, prices seem to be higher than they have been in years past.
