Hi Everyone,
Guess I haven't paid attention since we always fly JB or AT. I CANNOT believe that Continental charges $15 for the first bag checked in!! Wow!!! So for four of us, we have three checked pieces.....$45. Ouch!! It's the point. I will not be choosing Continental again, if possible. Is this really true? Is it the same with other airlines now as well?

Airtan just started charging December 8th. $15 for the first checked bag, $25 for the second bag. I believe SW is the only airline left that doesn't charge for checked bags.

That is just absolutely ridiculous to me! Now people will start overstuffing the carryons, or bringing on board when they otherwise would have checked the luggage.

So, we can still carry-on for free? It weighs the same checked or in the overhead? What is the point? It just takes longer to get everything settled, everyone is more uncomfortable, and on smaller planes they have to gate-check carry-ons anyway. Now everyone just has to wait longer for them to unload these at the gate (thus jamming up the jetway and holding up plane turn-around time).

I don't get how all of this saves the airlines any money?

We are flying to Florida in March for a golf weekend, and it's going to cost the 4 of us $60 just to take our golf clubs. :sad2:

Exactly!!!!!!! I am so angry right now!!
What about if you are using Magical Express? I just read this info. and now I am totally confused. Sounds to me like we need to pay ahead or you can't use ME??????

Just checked Jet Blue's web site! The first checked bag is still free! Sorry about the additional cost to your flight! I would not be happy.

You can use ME, you just can't use the luggage check-in at the resort if you don't pre-pay.

When did you purchase your ticket? The Continental fee is for tickets purchased 9/6/08 and after.

Thanks. That makes sense then. We can pay, check in luggage, no problem on our way TO Disney, but AT Disney, we would need to prepay in order for ME to take the luggage. Do you get some kind of voucher to show that you paid when you take your luggage to resort check in.

Ours were purchased after 9/6, unfortunately.

Thanks!

The airlines are really cracking down on oversize or over limit carry ons. Yet still people think that they should be able to take larger or more carry ons.

There are other threads where people defend taking too large carry ons, and don't think that 'the rules are the rules'.

It confuses me because obviously we cannot have it both ways!

It makes revenue. And it will eventually improve as airlines are definitely cracking down even before security and before boarding.

On LH the carryon limit is one 8kg bag; I regularly see them turn full 319/320 aircraft in under 20 minutes and bins are half empty!

I don't know if it will get to that in America as the rules were not enforced for so long, and so many people think that the rules do not apply to them, or are a suggestion only.

This whole charging for checked bags drives me crazy...however when you look at southwest who doesn't charge for the first 2, their ticket prices are about $70 more than the ones who charge. So you are still going to pay somehow. Most airlines have been doing this for a while I thought. I usually only take one carryon...and its one of the rolling carryons so its pretty small anyway.

While I detest the extra fee there's also the extra added putzing at the resort, if you're doing the Magical Express thing. It's too bad that if we know we're flying round trip, we can't pay a round trip fee. I'm not talking about a discount for round trip....I just mean pay $30 on the outgoing flight instead of the $15 on each end.

The real answer to the overstuffed carry-on issue is to charge a fee for every carry-on as well.

You can check in your 1st bag for FREE if you have a Continental Chase Rewards card! I got one tied in to my checking account and I use it (same as cash) to pay for everything, so I have been racking up airline miles too, which more than covers the cost of the card. You pay extra to have this card (annual fee of $30-60), but the free checked bags is another bene. Maybe you can get one of this cards before your trip. I find the free airline miles makes it worth having.

Keep in mind that it's $15/bag each way, so $90/RT for your family.

Can you please tell me more about pre-pay-----where do I have to pre-pay for my checked bags --at oringinal airport and will they have a record of it when I'm at disney. Any info about pre-pay would be appreciated
