Do you buy your child's school Principal a gift?

I usually don't but it seems everyone is doing that this year. I was just curious on how many people buy a gift for the Principal. My DD is in Elementary School.

I do give him a gift. . .but that's because he's my boss as well!! It's usually some type of goody I've made. This year it was homemade chocolate dipped pretzels (he loves chocolate!)

That's what I gave my DD5 principal and school secretary too. Funny

Being in the "minority" doesn't mean you have to "follow the crowd".. If it's something you're considering doing only because everyone else is, you're not doing it for the "right" reasons.. Make sense?

Yes! She is awesome though.. she really cares for our kids and is always there for them.. I bought her a big box of candy.. she even gave me a thank you card before we left for Christmas break! Wow.. how thoughtful.

My son goes to Catholic School so we may be different. But at our school the PTO president sends out a letter asking for donations in any amount. She then splits what she gets between the principal and the support staff at the school. makes it easy and Sister doesn't end up with a bunch of small gifts. I like this. We can donate if we wish to and it is all anonymous.

I gave our principal and assistant principal a gift this year. They both do a great job. Our assistant principal is there early every morning to get the kids safely out of their cars, and he knew every child's name in the school within the first week.

Our principal is very approachable and does a great job supporting the teachers and the kids. I have never requested teachers for my kids, but she has done a great job determining whose teaching style best suits their learning styles. Both of my DDs have been very happy this year - in large part to the mix of kids in their classes as well as the personalities of their teachers. Our principal is very receptive to ideas for improvement and doesn't take offense if someone has an issue with the school or policies. Her motto is "every child deserves special treatment".

I don't think you need to give gifts, but I wanted them both to know that I appreciate their efforts where my DDs are concerned.

DD goes to a small school of 216 kids. Her school goes from grades K-8. She knows each and every staff member including the principal. He also knows her and has known her since he was in kindergarten. We do give him a gift ebcause he gives 180% to the school and to the kids.

it's usually a bottle of his favorite wine.

Oh I am not buying her anything. I was just curious. I am done buying gifts. I can't buy anymore.

DH is a principal and the majority of the students do not give him a gift(he is very grateful for the gifts he gets ----usually sweets or a small ornament, sometimes a tie-- but he doesn't expect gifts from students by any means).

In our area it is a school district policy that teachers are not to get gifts, period. The policy also applies to other school employees.

The ones with a Hershey Kiss and M&M on top? Actually, this is what both DS's gave their teachers this year (middle and high school) It is just a small token that they are remembered and not a budget buster. The elementary school principal is out from a surprise surgery this year, but that is what she usually gets from DD.

Only ever did this once and the Principal at the time was spending betwen 2 and 3 hours a week one-on-one with my son, mentoring him in ancient history.

Normally I would never consider sending a gift to the Principal and I used to be a teahcer.

Nope, because our principal is a clown.... I used to give the principal a gift because she was fabulous and I wanted her to know how much I appreciated her. She moved on and our new one is less than adequate.

Yeah we do, but only because she is also my MIL and that would be rude not too. Actually she gets lots of gifts during Christmas and at the end of the school years from several different kids.
We did however get something for the secretary since my DD insist on going up front to Grandmom's office in the morning and thus sometimes bothering the secretary.

Boy, do I wish I lived in your school district. Don't get me wrong, my DD10's teacher does a great job and I think giving her a gift is great! But to be honest I have gone way over budget this year and I must stop this madness. All of which is my fault, admittedly so. Last night my DH says did you give the newspaper guy and the garbageman something? Two more days of this madness and it is all over....
