Some last minute questions...

from a first time poster, long time lurker.

We leave Christmas Day from Maryland for our second stay at Fort Wilderness. We feel really fortunate to have gotten our reservations just three weeks ago as we have been trying since August. I have a few last minute questions...

I'm preparing a site request to fax in following the format suggested. This worked really well for us on our first stay last Easter... we were able to get a site in the 100 loop as we had requested. This time our reservation is for a premium site and I have two questions. Are all of the loops listed in the Fort FAQ as premium finished? I don't want to waste anyone's time by requesting a loop that hasn't yet gone through the change. Or, is it possible to voluntarily downgrade from premium to preferred? There are preferred loops that we would "prefer" over some of the premium loops. I would consider paying the premium rate for the option of staying in a preferred loop.

We are excited to be bringing our newly acquired golf cart on this trip. At a campground near home they require that the owners of private carts carry liability insurance. We have not taken the cart to this campground so I haven't purchased it. It doesn't appear as though this is a FW requirement but has anyone done this or feel that it is necessary?

Lastly, I've been reading about the possibility that the parks may reach capacity and close on New Year's Eve. If you arrive early enough to access a park can you leave and then go back? I suspect the answer is "no" but it would help to know for sure.

The premium loops that are finished are 400, 500, 800, 1200.

No, once you leave a park, you may not get back in.

Have not read anything about liability insurance on golf carts.

Just on the insurance: I just insured mine for liability and $ 4000 loss with a $ 500 deductable for $ 78 for a year. Even though Disney doesn't require it, it's too cheap to take the risk of not having it.

I'll address this from a different direction. You are driving your cart down the road at FW and a child darts out in front of you - Are you willing to bet your house and all your possessions that you will be able to stop in time? If you don't and decided not to have insurance because FW didn't require it that is what might happen.

Folks forget that liability insurance is there to protect them. I personally don't care if I am "required" to have insurance. If I could possibly injure someone in an accident I WANT insurance. I do have insurance on my golf cart and it seldom leaves our acreage in NC.

True. Depending on the level of a capacity closure, there's no guarantee anyone will get in or even back in - even resort guests. All info I've seen on these boards has suggested that you pick the park you want to be in, get there EARLY, and plan to stay put.

Also check with your homeowners insurance, sometimes you will have coverage that way.

Thank you for all of the input. This is a great resource and a friendly community. The site request is made and the liability insurance is bought. Looking forward to a magical albeit crowded week at WDW. Who knows... now that the ice is broken I may try my hand at a trip report. If you see a champagne colored SuperNova in your travels through the Fort, stop in and say hello.

You're right--3 years ago we left and couldn't get back in--we had park hoppers and it still didn't matter. We vowed to never go again between Christmas and New Years.

I believe that, as a WDW resort guest, you are guaranteed admissibility into at least on park on any given day, not necessarily your choice of parks. I think what this boils down to is if you had non-hopper passes and left MK and it reached capacity before you reentered, WDW would give you access to another park. This is speculation, but I don't know how else this 'guaranteed admissibility rule' might be applied (maybe a refund of a day on a length of stay pass should all four reach capacity?)

Ours has the bunks. The DD's 10 and 13 love them. We saw this one at the show in Hershey, PA this fall. This will be the first trip more than 150 miles from home. So far it has been great.
