Just Back----Deluxe Guy Returns from CSR

I just returned from four nights at CSR, my first visit to a moderate resort. I obtained two rooms---one for me and one for my father and his longtime girlfriend. We were assigned to the Ranchos section and I had a water view room while my father and his girlfriend had a standard view.

The resort is beautiful and I enjoyed the gorgeous grounds. The Rachos section was my third (out of three) choice for a room and I was disappointed when I learned that I would be based in that section. My disappointment grew as I walked past the beautiful Cabanas. The Ranchos are not unattractive, but I don't believe that they are as attractive as Cabanas and Casitas.

I have only stayed at deluxe resorts in the past and was afraid that a moderate room would be small by comparison. The room seemed quite spacious to me. The room was clean and pleasant, although it did have a musty smell. My room featured the new queen beds and they were very comfortable and I slept well each night that I was at CSR. My water view consisted of a view of one of the quiet pools, which was a big letdown after seeing the beautiful lake in the center of the resort.

I missed not having a balcony. CSR room windows look out on to the hallway and it was unsettling to have people passing by my window.

The Cast Members were all very nice and welcoming. I have no complaints at all and they maintained the highest standards of hospitality and professionalism. Walt would have been proud of them.

I appreciated the resort amenities. Pepper Market and Maya Grill were delicious. Panichitos store offered a nice selection of souvenirs. My Dad's girlfriend has limited mobility, so she spent most of her time in her room and ordered room service. She raved about the food and especially enjoyed the fried chicken. I swam in the quiet pool one day and the water was very warm.

Bus service was excellent.

The resort is large and spreadout. I walk quickly and have a long stride and it took me approximately ten minutes to walk from my room to the main building. I enjoyed the walk through the beautiful grounds, but it was a real inconvenience for Dad's girlfriend due to her limited mobility.

All in all, a nice stay.

Thanks for such a detailed review. It's especially nice to hear a review of a moderate from someone who usually stays deluxe (like my family does). CSR does sound nice, and I'm glad you had a good time. The lack of privacy through the window is a major reason why we have not stayed in a mod yet.

Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at CSR--our home away from home.

Thanks, it's good to know that you went from a deluxe to mod & not too disappointed??? We have stayed at the Poly for our past few visits & love it. This next trip we are staying at WL & I am a bit apprehensive about it. But you gotta try it & see- so, will you stay at CSR again?

Welcome back and thanks for sharing! Sounds like you enjoyed your stay at CSR. Just curious, did you ask to have your rooms switched because of your dad's girlfriends limited mobility or was it requested prior to arrival?

I really appreciate your review. Our family has only stayed at deluxe and DVC properties and will stay at CSR next month. I have been going back and forth with my decision but think, at this point, we will stick it out and give CSR a try. Your review makes me feel better about my decision to stay there, so thanks!

I will always prefer Deluxe over Moderate, but would not mind staying at CSR again.

I had no idea that the girlfriend was so immobile until I saw her (long story with lots of drama coming to the Community Board in the next couple of days). I did not ask to change rooms because were settled and a room change would really not have helped the situation. In short, she could not walk more than five steps without having to stop and gasp for air and was completely unprepared for the trip.

I am sorry to hear about your father's friend and her inability to move about... did they think of renting a wheelchair or something? LOL I am probably not helping but wondering nonetheless. I hope your father at least was able to enjoy the parks with you? :)

With some of the cabana's being turned into the club level rooms (done) and I think the rehab has started on one of the other buildings, the cabanas are going to be hard to get hold of for a while. I loved the casitas when we went. Pretty close to el centro and a great view of the lake and across to the 'ruins'.

Glad you had a good time, sorry about the issues though :guilty:

We were there in November and requested Cabana's but were also placed in Ranchos. I believe we were the ONLY two rooms occupied in our area. There was NO ONE, I mean, no one around all the time we were there. Two days they never cleaned our room. Got back around 4 and nothing done. Before we left we called down to tell them how dissapointed we were with this stay there this time that many times before we never had a problem, etc. Two weeks ago the GM called us and is giving us two free nights.

That's awesome!

If only you had known, you could have suggested an off-site ECV rental. I hate to hear about folks basically confined to a room, when there is a readily available (if slightly pricey -- but wouldn't having a good trip be worth it) assistance device that could have helped immensely. It sounds like she has a very tough time of it.

We tried an ECV and it was a disaster. She could not/would not operate it in a safe and responsible manner. The ECV drama will appear in my Community Board trip report.

I wouldn't be remotely apprehensive about staying at WL. It might have smaller rooms than the Poly, but overall it's a more spectacular resort and there are things that it has that the Poly doesn't --- things one doesn't notice until they're not there .. like the covered walkway to the buses, the rooms all in the one building, a more tranquil setting... I could rave on. It is quite definitely not a moderate.

We can understand your love of the Poly...we love it too. I can't answer about WL--we haven't stayed there and have no desire to (we've visited twice and had issues both occasions). We've stayed at the CSR seven times and will continue to do so. It is just a matter of preference and what you like and how much you expect out of your resort.

Please post a link once you have your Community Board trippie up, it sounds like you need lots of commiseration, and inquiring minds want to know! ;)
