Aldi products - who makes them??

We have recently started shopping at Aldi's, and I thought I would see if any Aldi Gurus:thumbsup2 know who makes some of the products like the peanut butter, milk, yogurts, etc ...really any product. (I am trying to convince my husband the peanut butter is secretly Jiff :rotfl2: ) Also, because of the Peter Pan recall, I am wondering if they would notify you if it was the same manufacturer.
Thanks!

I believe what aldi does is makes deal with the number one product in each category and thats what they sell, under the aldi name.

So if the number one ketchup is heinz ketchup, thats what is in the aldi brand. Same with other products. So id you don't like the number one product, you won't like the aldi brand.

i'm not sure where you figure out what is what?

I don't know about ALDI in America as their products are different than in Germany. And there are a lot more processed and convenience foods in the American ALDI stores. But in my German ALDI a lot of items are name brand packaged under 'house brand' just like in other grocery stores.

Right now I use ALDI toothbrushes for instance which are like the better quality ones in American pharmacies, but they cost me about 0,30 cents each. I can't think of the brand but I know it is a decent one. Same with the joint creme and the pain relief tablets - they are German brands sold under their house name.

Trader Joe's is owned by the 'other' Albrecht brother (the one who does not own the American ALDI stores but owns the north ALDI stores). Tonight I ate a box of Trader Joe's chocolate brandy beans made in Germany; it is not as good as Asbach Uralt but I think that it is a fairly common one sold under a brand name in Germany. Trader Joe's sells Bonne Maman tartlets under their name. They sell Jules Destrooper belgian cookies under their name.

So while I don't know the American ALDI products, I can easily identify many of the Trader Joe products as those I eat regularly in Germany and France under brand names.

I work for Aldi's, my job is to receive the product in so I know the "names"

My fellow posters are correct, Aldi buys product thought the brand name companies but sticks the Aldi name on it.

Aldi is very strict about recalls and quality. Plus they have that double back return policy.

Some examples:

Tyson chicken
Clorox Bleach

Give it a try, I love must of their products but not all. Same as in any store.

This is the same thing the manager at our local Aldi's was saying to customers when the store opened a few years ago. I am never disappointed with most of their products.

We have an Aldi's and I hate that they will not tell you the country the product was made in (once in a while they do). I am very picky. I buy very little processed foods, so much of what Aldi sells is heavily processed.

I LOVE Aldis! If you are 'allowed', I'd love to know some of the other brand names that Aldi uses, specifically, the packaged noodles. I think Aldi calls them Reganno? That's the only thing we have tried that we did not like at all, a noodles and sauce packet, like the Lipton packs, but I think they go by Knorr now. I would just like to know who makes them, I don't think it's Lipton/Knorr just based on the fact that we didn't like the Aldi version.

Just curious:)

Any one know who makes the red tomato based pasta sauces? Or if they are any good. The kids and DH are Ragu fans and we were wondering if Aldi's sauce is similar.

Thanks!

That is what amazed me when I went to ALDI for the first time in America, and why I rarely go there. In Germany we have some frozen items, but mostly fresh produce, staples, coffee, chocolate, pharmacy items, and dairy products.

ALDI in America was like a completely different experience and definitely not what I am used to.

And that is probably why Americans tend to be overweight in many cases. :confused3 As a general rule, most of us eat a very unhealthy diet.

I wasn't aware that Aldi's got stuff from brand name manufacturer's. I did know that Walmart does that, and I love their store brand products. I haven't been to an Aldi's in years...will have to check it out again.

Does anyone know who makes their canned vegetables?

So are the brandy beans good? I know it is hard to compare American to German but I saw those the other day and I almost bought them.

Are they incredibly strong?

I would rate them only 'okay'. I have an Asbach Uralt store in town which sells their full product line, plus we get the real Mon Cheri with alcohol, and I consider those far better quality. I can also get tipsy off a box of Asbach or Mon Cheri or Brandt - not these.

The chocolate is rather soft, not as crisp in texture, which indicates not best quality; the brandy is okay but not very strong.

It's the same manufacturer which makes them under the rather vague title of 'chocolate brandy beans' and sells for less than name brand product in Germany and other countries.

But for the price it is not bad - of course, I can get mine on 50% off sale from the Asbach store for 1/2 the cost, but those are rarely found in America so these are a somewhat acceptable substitute.

A few years ago, they were talking about Aldi on WGN radio. Someone called in and said that they work for Aldi and started to list some of the brands. It's been a while but I know that they said that the frozen meat products are Tyson, the pop is Canfields, the chips are Vitners but I don't remember the rest.

The pasta sauce is good. My family prefers Hunts or Ragu and these are pretty close, if not the same.

I'm a ketchup snob :rotfl: (Heinz only for me) but I picked up a bottle at Aldi and it tastes just like Heinz to me.

Until recently, I had never bought fresh meat there. I ran in for some milk and they had 90% ground beef on sale for $1.00/package (they were each about 2 1/2lbs) because it needed to be sold or frozen that day. I picked up six packages figuring that I've wasted $6.00 on crazier things than meat. I stuck it in my freezer and used a package last week. It was good. Now, I'll probably continue to buy my meat at Sam's since it's cheaper then Aldi regular price but if it's ever on sale again, I'll be sure to pick up as much as I can fit in my freezer.

One thing to remember is that they have a double money guarantee. If you buy something and are not happy with it, they will replace it and give you your money back.

I just went shopping there on Saturday and will continue to shop there! Hubby complain up and down when I told him where I went, but he doesn't do the bills. I saved money and now a days you got to save where you can. I bought the soda Sweet Valley Cola and Diet Cola and one other kind. Hubby didn't like the cola, said it wasn't pepsi. I love the diet cola, really can't tell a difference between this and diet pepsi and our son loved the other soda (it was like mt. dew). I also bought alot of seafood and you can't beat the prices. It how you prepare the food, not what store it comes from. I know in a prior post someone asked about the pasta sauce. I like it, but I do add some seasoning to it, not that you have to I just do. I also like the popcorn chicken and the chicken nuggets. Like anything you have to try it and if you don't like it, you know not to buy it the next time.

I do, I do!!!

I work for the pasta company that produces the pasta for Aldi....as well as many other stores labels (AKA Private Labels). We also produce several BRANDED labels which include: Pasta LaBella, Muellers, Martha Gooch, Golden Grain. Just to hit a few from some of the different parts of the country.

We do not however provide them with the Lipton/Knorr products.

We like most stuff from Aldi's but I'll tell you the ketchup is most definetly NOT Heinz. We only use Heinz but we tried the Briargate and it tasted more like Hunts which we do not like. It was also a bit more watery than Heinz.

Does anyone know who makes their canned vegetables?

Long ago I heard they were Del Monte. I don't know if it's a fact or not. Usually they are pretty good, howover occasionally they do have a stem on the green beans or some of the carrots don't look very good.

I dont know who makes them, but their jar pasta sauce is very good. :thumbsup2 I actually wouldnt compare it to a Rago, but rather closer to Prego.

the pop is Canfields, .

I love, and I mean love their Diet cola. I prefer their diet cola to any brand of diet cola, at all. I think it's better than Diet Pepsi, Coke, all of them

A few years ago ( I dont know if they still have them) But remember the Mondo squeezie juice things? The Aldi ones were crazy cheap and I used to buy them for my boys lunches... and they were wrapped in the Aldi wrapper, but when you opened them up - the actual plastic container was embossed with "Mondo" on it.

Thanks for that information!

Muellers, that's a brand we buy in the regular grocery store. For something like spaghetti, just the pasta, not mixed with anything but just the dry pasta, is the Aldi's version exactly the same as Muellers, just labeled differently? I tried to tell my dad that Aldi's has brand name manufacturers foods just under their private label and he told me that may be the case, but it's stuff the brand names rejected, didn't meet their quality standards. I didn't think this was true, even if it is, the quality is fine for me, I've liked everything except that noodles and sauce pack. I'm just curious. My dad is just a bit of a snob when it comes to this kind of thing and apparently thinks shopping at Aldi is beneath him :confused3 . To me that's just dumb, but whatever, he's shopping for one person, I'm shopping for five, I need to make my dollars stretch all the further!
