The We Moved To Orlando Trip Report Update 4/12 Trevon's Birthday & East

DH use to work in Orlando and he'd hear that kind of stuff all the time, he was like huh? Then he'd start to ask people have you been there? And they'd say no, but I heard..... he'd just laugh. It's built up a lot in recent years too, we moved down to Florida 3 years ago and we can't believe how much has gone up in Clermont since we use to pass through on the way to Disney from Ocala. Maybe it's because Clermont has a southern feel to it, who knows.

That's sad, funny and true all at the same time! People do that, I know. They just assume it's far out so there for it's country and full of rednecks, that's really sad. I won't let that bother me.

It is sad how Clermont lost almost all it's orange groves and beautiful land to developments though. I bet it has really changed these past few years.

Where do you live now? How far is it from WDW and do you go to WDW often and do you like where you live:laughing: a million questions here.

Another thing I can't believe and honestly it has scared my a little until I really thought about it is the crime...is it really that bad in Orlando?!?

Congratulations! I'm in the Tampa Bay area, so no help Orlando wise, but sounds like you guys are going to have some fun!

YES!! Get a pool. I'ts so nice on a summer night to just sit in the pool and relax. You can get a projector and watch movies on the side of your house while floating around. Plus, during the day, in the middle of August, you won't want to be on dry land!

Get yourself some Off Sport, and you'll be okay! As for snakes, I have seen 2.

Thanks and welcome:goodvibes How do you like the Tampa Bay area? Can't wait to visit and check out the zoo, MOSI, the aquarium and the beaches :) Do you go to Orlando often?

You made me teary eyed at your paragraph on the pool:laughing: It just sounds so wonderful the way you described it ~ I just imagined us doing that, the kids love pools of course, they would just be in heaven:cloud9: It sounds so super ~ so Florida:rotfl:
Plus we are at home all day everyday, we'd get our use out of it for sure. It's not too much more to get a pool home I've noticed ~ hopefully I could find one with the care inc. and the child gate around it. Thanks for your thoughts!!!

As others have said, Clermont is not far from WDW. It is nice area with many new housing areas and a lot of new shopping.

I live in Windermere and love it, but housing can be more expensive here than many of the areas in Clermont. I live down the street from an area where the house start at around $3 million.

You are in luck if you are planning on renting a home here now. Many people are desperate to rent homes and you should get a good price on the rent. If you are looking to purchase, it is also a great time, but credit is tight.

I'm glad to hear that you are not in desperate need of jobs as soon as you move here. Jobs are hard to come by right now in this area. There are many people out of work.

Let me know if you have a specific question.

Windermere sounds great being so close to WDW and full of grand homes. I have looked at pics of some of the choices there.

Yes, we'll have time to find the right families which is good. We can enjoy ourselves and take time to move in:lovestruc

Thanks for your help and I'll let you know if I have any specific questions for sure!

I'll be following your story because I definitely want to move down that way in the next few years. popcorn::

The Davenport area is a great place to live. The Champions Gate area is close to Disney and is very nice.

Hi Amy,

I am on board for this happy adventure. I can't wait to read all about it. I'm a bit jealous if I may say so.

Yes! I was looking around the Orlando area, about 15-20 minutes outside, around Altamonte Springs.

That seems like a nice area:goodvibes

Yes, I forgot about Davenport ~ I'll check it out, thanks!!!

Hi Sophia! So glad you're here :goodvibes Don't be jealous ~ you get to visit WDW all the time you're so lucky!

Champions Gate/Davenport is a nice area, but is also a bit more on the expensive side of things. My DH works at the Publix right near Reunion, and he said all that come in are tourists.

Polk County may be a good choice for you..Its close to Disney, but depending on the area, you can get really good housing deals..

I personally LOVE Winter Haven. Haines City, Lakeland, and Poinciana are all also good choices.

What about Winter Park? Lake Mary?

I'm not super familiar w/Orlando (I'm from further north...near St Augustine, which is a GREAT historic and fun town!!) but I think I remember those areas being nice.

I understand the excitement too...military family here too!! We've lived in FL twice, Maine, Italy, Viginia and now Hawaii. :) It is an adventure!

Lake Mary and Winter Park are on the far eastern side of Orlando. I lived in Casselberry for a year, and I recall TONS of traffic issues on that side of town, but both very nice areas.

Hi! I've been looking at Davenport too, thanks for the suggestion.

Winter Haven is a place I haven't checked into yet, I will do that here in a minute ~ thanks again for the suggestion! Also, Poinciana looks nice but I have a question for you so I'm going to PM you ;)

HI! We LOVE St. Augustine! We always stop there on the way down and back from NC and enjoy the area :goodvibes The kids LOVE the St. Augustine Alligator Farm :)

Winter Park is nice, but I think a bit out of our price range and style  Lake Mary is an option, I'm checking out houses there too. It seems to be as far away from WDW as Clermont, just in a different direction.

The Military is really great ~ the travel and benefits. That's great you have gotten to enjoy so many wonderful places and Hawaii? How cool ~ haven't been there YET ;)

Thanks for your input!!!

Lot's of homes behind Champions Gate that are reasonable. There are two Publix close to each other in the area.

Good for you and your family! Live your dream. I was going to ask about the Davenport area from you local folks. When we have visited the area I always enjoy the ride along 27 from Davenport up to Clermont. How do things pan out price wise? Grammy

You have a wide variety of homes, apts. manufactured homes, mansions. A little bit for everyone. It's a great area.

Thanks :goodvibes Davenport looks great ~I sure wish I had visited some of these areas when there in the past...we always just come in off of I-4 from the East and go back that way too. When in town we just stick to International and 192 ~ you know, the tourist areas

Sounds perfect. I will ask the realtor I'm talking to right now to send some listing from that area. I can't wait to check them out!

I've already learned so much from this thread! :goodvibes I'm getting more ideas for towns to search nearby! You're going to help me out a lot if I do decide to eventually move down there.

That's great ~ just what I want to hear :goodvibes We need more info on Orlando and areas because lots of us are moving there and it would be really helpful. I've learned a lot too!!!

Since you babysit a lot, have you considered working at Disney at one of the child care clubs? The down side may be that you would not be at home and they may give you hours you do not like.
I am only suggesting this b/c I used to work at a preschool and the other teachers and I were big Disney fans and we said we would love to live in Orlando and work there.
