Kids making new friends at the fort

In the kids minds, a 'great campground' is one where lots of kids are about, and they can make new friends. I am guessing that this is probably not the case with The Fort, as families probably keep their schedules too full to allow for much time for the kids to meet other kids at the fort. Am I guessing right, or is The Fort really a social environment too? Are there ways to improve the social environment for the kids?

I would suggest just staying out of the way of the "park commandos" and instead have your kids hang-out where the kids of folks who enjoy the Fort hang-out. In my mind that means hitting the pool, doing the campfire and movie, chilling at the beach for fireworks and parade.

My daughter probably has better friends that she keeps in touch with from the fort than she does in our neighborhood. She has a lot of friends from school but her favorite friends live hundreds of miles away and we try to meet up as much as possible with them.

That was always the great part about camping when I was a kid, getting to meet new people and making friends. You are right about the schedules being an issue but there are still plenty of us that go to WDW and FW just to hang out at Fort Wilderness. This group as a whole is more oriented towards a balanced WDW where there is enough downtime to just hang out. Of course thats just my opinion and its worth exactly what you paid for it...

I would agree....there are still quite a few kids around during the day. We (and lots of families) spend at least part of their days if not full days at FW and not in the parks

We're probably among the "commando" folks who are on the move most of the time - to the parks, trail rides, Sea Raycers, etc. My kids will find playmates for the day at the pool, but they've never made friends at the Fort. I suspect this is partly our schedule, partly because my kids are shy, and partly because they have each other to play with and aren't seeking out other kids. I personally think that unless there are other kids out and about in your loop, the pool and the dog park are your best bets for finding other kids.
