The Trip where Disney Lost a Bit of Magic
11th-14th December 2008
Pre Trip
The Cast
Me (John) - 26 year old who loves Disney Pixar films and has an unhealthy obsession for Toy Story and all things Toy Story related. Has been going to DLRP ever since my first trip in 1992 when my Dad was part of the Opening Crew, he was the poor sausage who was in charge of putting all the light bulbs on the Mad Hatters Tea Cup ride. Has also been to Disney World Florida three times but much prefers DLRP. Started suffering from withdrawal symptoms when his adorable little boy pointed to my DLRP hoodie and said 'Mickey'
DW (Ellie) - 25 year old Disney lover who doesn't even try and pretend that she dislikes Disney, not too pleased with her husbands love of Disney Pixar as she prefers the classics films. Tried to play it cool when DLRP was discussed but was fighting back the tears when the trip was confirmed. Has only ever been twice before so most of the park is still quite new and exciting to her.
DS (Kacee) - 18 month old dribble monkey who loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny and My Friends Tigger and Pooh and can already say 'Mickey', 'Oh Toodles' and can name the entire cast of My Friends Tigger and Pooh. We are hoping that he will enjoy DLRP however fully aware that he probably won't remember the trip at all
Nanny - Would probably kill me if I reveal her real age so we will say 21. Loves Disneyland Paris and hasn't been since 2002. Kacee gave her a reason to plan a trip again but Nanny was one of the people who thought Kacee was too young in October to go to DLRP.
Dandad - Older than the earth itself and was probably what killed the Dinosaurs with his talk of Building Surveying and Architecture! Actually involved in the building of DLRP and in charge of the lighting and electronics on the Teacups. The main man who started the DLRP craze off in the rest of us, again hasn't been since 2002 and wasn't really bothered about going this time....honestly!!
Pirate Uncle Matty - Or the lesser spotted Uncle as he is otherwise known. Comes back from a year in Australia on the 7th December straight to DLRP on the Thursday. Hasn't seen Kacee since January 26th 2008 and wants to spend as much time as possible with Kacee on this trip.
The Background
Well as I'm sure you all know we went for a week in October 2008 and bought Annual Passes as they worked out cheaper. We certainly caught the Disney bug again while over there for Halloween and as soon as we came back we decided to start looking at prices to stay there suring the Christmas celebrations. As it happened it was only £50 dearer to take the rest of family with us so we decided that we could earn some massive brownie points and save a few pennies in Christmas presents by booking for them all to go to DLRP as thier Christmas Present. Uncle Matty planned to come home for Christmas and changed his date to come back in time for DLRP however my Mum and Dad think that it is just them going and that Matty isn't back until January 2009!
The Planning
Not really much planning involved, I called Disney for a quote for the three of us, then asked how much it was for 5 adults and Kacee and it worked out as and extra £50 for it. Spoke to the wife and got permission to book for us and then called my Mum and asked if they wanted a holiday...the rest, as they say, is history.
The Countdown
DS had a mini countdown in his room, although he is too young to really understand he knows that Mummy and Daddy are very happy every time they tick a day off the list. A main countdown on our fridge out of letter magnets helps the parents get through the long days at work with a small smile.
Trip Goals
* Let Uncle Matty spend time getting to know Kacee
* See all the Christmas decorations
* Watch the Christmas shows and get Kacee to see Santa and drop off his letter
* Finally get to see the Whinnie the Pooh show for Kacee
