Shipping from the park back home?

Have you ever bought anything from the park and shipped it back home?

We want to buy DD a Cinderella Castle playset for Christmas, but the box is huge. I know Disney can do it for you but the shipping fees are ridiculous!

We're thinking about buying a castle and then taking it to the post office and shipping it via USPS (not FedEx or UPS).

Has anyone ever done anything like that here that can speak from experience?

Thanks!

Have not shipped from WDW to home but have to an address we use all the time in Lewiston, NY. I had boxes and boxes shipped there last Feb full of China and went to pick up once I knew they were there. They are maybe 10-15 mins from the border, charge $5 per pkg and works like a charm. We have been using them for maybe 8-10 years successfully.

I did most of my Xmas shopping using Saks.com etc etc and free shipping to there too last year!

PM me if you'd like the address.

I do it each time with snow globes (can't bring them as carryon on plane) I shipped USPS from the Dolphin with no problems at all. I actually bring a box collapsed in my luggage as well as paper to wrap it with so I don't have to search for it. I wait til half way thru the trip (or later) and wrap it, and other breakables, with dirty clothing. It arrived home well after we did without any problems at all. Whatever you do though, dont' wait until the day you're leaving. I did that the first trip at ASMo and had a terrible time. They'd only ship it UPS which was much higher fees. Oh, also when you come back into the country, make sure you note on your customs form that some items within your allowable amount are coming at a later date. That way no duty or taxes. HTH

I bought that Castle playset for my niece one year. I didn't have it shipped back, I just took it out of the box, folded the box flat, put it in my large suitcase, put the styrofoam all around it along with a bunch of my clothes and took it home that way. I opened the castle and put it down flat in the suitcase. Didn't have a problem. Once I got home, I put it all back together in the box and wrapped it up. I didn't know in advance that I was going to buy it, so I got lucky that I had enough room in my suitcase. Otherwise I probably would have brought another duffle bag for more stuff.

The Dolphin has a post office? Do other resorts have this service? I've never noticed, but it would be possibly helpful.

I called concierge desk at the Dolphin and they arranged their shipping dept to handle it. No problems at all. Much easier than going to a post office which was my plan. Concierge desk at ASMo handled it for us the first trip but wouldnt send it USPS, just courrier.

Thanks for the tip about the Dolphin concierge. I have friends staying there during our trip next month. I always avoid buying large items because I can't get to the USPS. I'll be sure to have her ask before I buy anything. You never know they could change rules around Christmas.

We didn't end up getting the castle, and I could have killed DH; on the last day he changed his mind and said we should get it! I refused to pay the shipping Disney wanted ($75) and I didn't wanted to rush to the post office.

However we did end up getting DS the monorail playset, and we took it on the plane as carry-on. It was the perfect size. It's now set-up in our living room and both kids are playing with it.

I do regret not getting the castle though, oh well just another reason to go back to Disney. :rotfl:
