So how heated are the Pop pools?

Yeah, I know the company line is that all pools are heated to 78, 82, or whatever the number is. But after 7 December trips and 1 January trip at the GF, there have been a number of times there is no way the pools were heated to 78. I asked a GF lifeguard at the themed pool about it last December and he said they do heat the water to whatever the number was, but that it feels colder with the breeze coming off the lagoon, the shade from the big rock, etc. I think he was feeding me a line. There was one year the quiet pool couldn't have even been 70 it was so cold.

So... anyone have positive reports about the water temp at Pop during cooler times (Nov, Dec, Jan) - like how the water feels on a day when the wait temp is in the low 70s? I'll be there next week.

I imagine a really big pool is hard to keep warm.

I read that they heat the water to 85 but if it shallow it cools off faster.

Good to know about the Bowling Pin pool being warm.

Sorry for being a smart***, but does anyone have any actual Nov - Jan experience on a day in the 70s to comment on my question instead of a thermal physics lesson I already understood? I'm convinced different resorts manage their pool heating systems differently (not only the dial, but other factors like size of pool, etc can affect the water temperature). So I'm curious how Pop's pools have felt during these times.

I find the pools warm at that time of year, and have never found them cold. Im not from a warm climate though, so it might be a factor.

I dont think disney is lieing to you, i think the pools are probably near the temperature listed. Air temperature has a huge affect on the water feels. I think that was what the pp was saying.

Ive never hopped in a pool there and thought it was 70. That'd be extremely cold. 82 is going to feel cold in the winter in Orlando though to some people. Its going to be different for everyone. I think it was Dec 1 - 5 that I was there a couple years ago and found the water warm. Im not sure you're going go to get a definitive answer though, its kind of like asking if the food is good, and you already disagree with my opinion. What the lifeguard told you makes perfect sense.

I can address this well. We were at Pop the first week of January last year. Unseasonably cold then - at night it was in the high 30's, low 40's. Our kids swam almost every night in the juke box pool. The water was so warm that you could see a bunch of steam coming off of the water. When I dipped my toe in, it felt like a warm bath tub. No complaints from the kids. I, of course, sat shivering in sweats wrapped in a towel sipping hot chocolate on a pool chair. The kids reported that the hippy dippy pool was much cooler so we stuck to the juke box pool. Hope that helps.

I'll second Joshua4. The bowling pin pool (by the Jukebox) is always much warmer, typically you can see the steam coming off of it. Three seperate trips we've swam in it in Nov. The bowling pin pool is always warmer then the hippy dippy pool. The "petal" shape of the pool makes it hard to heat.

Joshua and Kiki - thank you, that is the kind of report I was looking for, that the jukebox pool feels warmer because of the size/structure/capacity. So I'll know if it's not real warm or if the main pool feels cold not to give up - to give the bowling pin a try. We've had a similar experience at DLH. The main pool would be at least 5 degrees cooler (maybe 10) than a smaller/quiet pool that didn't have a slide.

Yeah, I know I was reacting a bit. To be fair, the 2nd poster has edited their post - changing kind of a generalized dissertation about water and air temperature to what you read now. People answering a different question has always been a pet peeve of mine. Kind of like if I asked about the food at Crystal Palace, someone would probably post that they've never eaten there but they loved Garden Grill. That drives my Type A personality a little nuts.

I was also dealing with a last minute emergency at the time and was a little stressed about it. My TA had cancelled the wrong reservation and had me in Movies instead of Pop, past the 5 day out cancel/change window, and she had just left for vacation herself. TA got it fixed though. So I'm better today.

Our trip to Pop last Dec. made us take a trip to the gift shop. We had no plans to swim at all, but a test of the water with our hands made us go buy some trunks and suits. It was probably around 55 degree's at night. It made you stay in the water with the outside temp and wind. This year we are taking suits along and plan on swimming at PoR. Have towels or robes handy when getting out of water!!LOL

Just returned from Pop on 11/8/08. (Temps were upper 60s 70s during the day, 50s - 60s at night) My daughters and I enjoyed the bowling pin pool one night. Not quite bath water but you could just jump in without screaming!

The REAL issue is getting OUT of the warm pool into the cool/cold air!!!
