Pop Century Re-named & Re-themed????

Wow I am honestly shocked that Pops numbers are lower. I love it far more then any of the other values and it's always seemed to be the most popular.

I wonder if this is for all of Pop or maybe just the unfinished portion?

Me too...we haven't stayed @any of the All Stars so I can't compare but we have always been satisfied with Pop!
But I can understand them wanting to add more family suites :surfweb:

It's from Jim Hill...I wouldn't count on it until Disney announces something.

One building permit was applied for and this is like the tenth post I've seen on this.

IF (and it's an IF at this point) anything is being done, it's going to take a long time. It's one (ONE) model room that has been applied for to be built. No one knows where or what yet. But all of a sudden Pop Century is history (no pun intended).

I think that would be a great idea, but only if it for the unfinished portion of PC. While it wasn't my favorite resort, I enjoyed my stay there. I would be very surprised if they were re-themeing it.

hmmm odd, We've stayed at POP twice, we love it, I love the theming. Plus when we went there always seemed to be alot of people?? If there are plans I hope they keep the part they have and used the unfinished part to do this so called plan, or better that it's not true at all. I mean don't get me wrong sounds like a great resort, but build it elsewhere or finish what was started first. I (imo) think if they finished POP it would attract more...finish it, improve it, attract the older families and couples as well. For instance my grandparents love Disney and though I understand that Disney likes to reach out to the youth, why not reach out to the youth in you!;) My grandparents would love a place that reminds them of the early years! JMO:thumbsup2

I have to say...it wouldn't surprise me.

The theming turns me off a little bit, and I know a lot of people feel that way. The price is right and I know it's going to be fun (we are staying there in two months...yay!), but it's got an overwhelming feel to it. Really, all of the values do.

When I said something of the sort to a CM on the phone, she said a lot of people say that. So...maybe they are thinking about doing something a little less stimulating?

Who knows? I'm just surprised it's that one they might be considering...it seems quite popular on these boards. I guess maybe not so much with the non-Dis world, huh?

I agree with those that stated that the themeing is not all that appealing. If I had to chosse a value I would choose 1. Movies, 2. Music, 3. POP. Plus, they never did anything with the other side...wasn't that stopped after 9/11? If there was really such a big demand for the resort, wouldn't they complete it? Maybe they are waiting to see how popular the family suite concept is?? If there is a big demand for the suites, Disney may convert more values (any values) into family suites. If POP is the least popular, why not make it them and re-theme it as well? People will think they are getting a new resort.

There have been a couple of times when I called to reserve a room at Pop and was told nothing was available but I could get into one of the All-Stars.
I don't get it.:confused3

I think Mr. Hill has his facts wrong about POP not being as popular as the All Star Resorts or the least, All Star SPORTS! POP is the newest of the Value Resorts and that is why it is more popular if not more so than the other Value Resorts plus like someone else mentioned, they have their own dedicated bus system, the #1 reason we will always pick POP over the All Stars.

True the big icons leave alot to be desired (the pop culture ones) and I was never thrilled with that concept. Thank goodness they included the Disney Animated icons to make the place feel at least a little Disneyish.

I hope they don't make the entire resort into suites. I'm sure they are great for big families with kids, but if adults were sharing, who wants to sleep on a pull out chair? So, I'm all for a POP face lift, as long as they leave some of the original ideas in place.

That is really odd that they say that Pop's occupancy numbers are lower. Pop is alway my 1st choice in value resorts, and there have been many, many times over the past year or two (at least 5) where there have been no rooms at Pop, so I headed over to the All Stars. I wonder if those facts are right?

If they are going to take the "legandary years" and convert it to a new theme with all suites, I think that would be pretty cool though. I can't see Disney doing anything in the current economy however, we might have to wait a few years to see this come to light.

The all-Star resorts have 30 buildings (10 Sports, 10 Music and 10 Movies)

Pop Century "Classic years" has 10 buildings and takes up as much room as all the Allstars. It is the largest resort in the US.

The "Legendary Years" across the pond, as of yet is uncompleted and I can see them changing the theme of that one. It is the same size as "Classic Years" so if they do finish it, it will be a monster resort location.

But this is all pure speculation.

I hope Its for the Incomplete calssic section, I love the way POp you can not please every one,i cant imagin that the kids have Issues with the big icons!
