Upgrade more likely. . . BWI or BC mid May

I would love to receive an upgrade at either of these resorts, but particularly at BWI for the larger deluxe rooms during our mid May trip.

I received an upgrade once at WL once from standard to courtyard but it was in early September.

I am not sure how busy it is mid May, particularly with the Flower and Garden events at EPCOT

Anyone have any experience with an upgrade at either BWI or BC during mid May? Any feedback is appreciated.

We've been in early to mid-May several times and it has been pleasantly busy --- a great time to go! Definitely wasn't one of the busiest times. But, in general, the Epcot resorts are more difficult to book (ie, busier) whenever there is an event at Epcot --- Flower & Garden, Food & Wine, Candlelight Processional. When the resorts are full, there's less opportunity for an upgrade. Rumor has had it for years that WL and AKL offer a lot of rooms at the standard view rate, and then upgrade some people because there aren't that many rooms with standard view. The managers of those resorts prefer to fill more rooms, even if charging less [don't know if this is true or not, but it "seems" there are more reports of upgrades at WL and AKL].

That said, there are changes in the economy that seem to be forcing people to re-think vacations, so who has ANY idea how busy it will be then and how many rooms will be filled (even if there are promotions like 4/7). It could be like the post-911 years when it was impossible to compare crowd levels and discounts with the prior years.

The sage advice on these boards is to always book whatever category room you'll be happy with and don't expect any more than that. If the Upgrade Fairy graces you with pixie dust, it will be special. Good luck!

An upgrade isnt more likely anywhere. Dont go in there expecting to get upgraded, its not a very common occurance. If it happens, great. If not, youre still at disneyworld

I was upgraded from a standard view to a boardwalk view room at the Boardwalk last May (first 2 weeks of May), total surprise as there's more standard view rooms than boardwalk view rooms, and we were there for 11 perfect nights :goodvibes

However, we were extremely lucky, the resort was full (according to the front desk CM) as there were numerous conventions being held at all the Epcot resorts during that time. (The Epcot resorts are often very busy due to conventions).

Are you willing to pay or are you asking about free upgrades? Are you currently staying CL? Free upgrades at BWI, especially to deluxe rooms, are very unlikely. If you're booked in a standard then you're much more likely to get a water view than free CL... but either way I would definitely NOT go in expecting it. There are very few of them in the whole hotel and conventions usually book them for speakers. Book it that way if that's what you really want, or ask at check-in if you're willing to pay. BWI does not do free upgrades upon check-in.

We just booked a deluxe concierge room at the BWI for next June using the 7 for 4 promotion - a pretty good deal since school is out! Anyway, wondering what these rooms are like - the reservation system didn't give option of paying more for a view, so I'm wondering whether these rooms have varying views, and specifically whether any of them have Boardwalk views?

We are a family of 6 and it was slightly less to pay for the concierge deluxe room than to get 2 regular rooms. While we lose some space and the extra bathroom, I am thinking the concierge service will more than make up for it... what do you think?

All of the deluxe concierge rooms at BWI are boardwalk views. Enjoy!

We booked a standard view room at the BC last May 10-17. Only request I made was full balcony. We got the full balcony in a standard room, no upgrade. Room was very nice though. Having stayed water view at the BC before, I don't think it's worth paying for. We even previously had a pretty direct view of the lake. Now staying boarwalk view at the BWI/BWV I do think is worth it!
