When you go away how much do you budget per day for things like food, souvenirs, etc.?

$100 per day, $150 per day, etc. (typical family of 4 for example)

We seem to visit WD every 3 months. I started with a tight budget of $100 for a family of 4 but it always seems to work out to about US $200 per person with those little extras. Ice cream, pop, water, deserts tend to add up each day...

It would depend on what kind of restauants you want to eat at. Counter Service meals for a family of 4 could cost you approx $40-$50 per meal. I know that after a few days I get sick of chiken fingers, burgers and fries and have to enjoy a healthier meal. Table service restaurants can cost you close to $120 for a family of 4. Snacks are approx $4 each. Souvenirs are the wildcard......what do yoy want to buy? A nice golf shirt will run you approx $45.

Overall I'd plan on $50 for counter service meal, $120 for table service meal, $25 in snacks and approx $30 each for souvenirs. That totals $225.....per day.

We did DDP for the 3 of us (we got it free, but it would have cost us $83/day). We then budgetted for PAL Mickey $70 (waste of $) and BBB ($145 of the best money I ever spent!!) After that it was $50/day. We stuck to it and had MORE THAN ENOUGH FOOD!! So I guess without the free dining is was $133/day, but that was only 3 of us.

We bought water at Walmart ($10) and brought 6 in a cooler each day (2 each). We also brought Crystal Light and Kool Aid packets to use in them (purchased in Canada).

We would never go without DDP as we love the Character meals, but as Faith grows older that could change. Just to give you an idea of what it could have cost without DDP:

CRT $110
Akershus $80
O'Hana's $70

The rest of the TS meals were around $50.

After the CS meals ($7 to $10 per person) and snacks ($4 to $5 each) we easily made off like bandits!!

Anyway, I know I strayed a bit, but we sure liked it.

And, as I said above, after that we really stuck to that $50/day budget. We may have spent more one day but less others.

Have Fun!!

It's now become my mission to make it as cheap as possible. Every time we go I try to spend less money than the last time.

We always eat breakfast in our room. Mainly because we usually only eat cereal or bagels anyway and we want to sleep in on vaction. So, eatting in the room allows us to stay in bed a bit longer but still get to the parks early.

We don't usually go to the parks everyday so we have lunch in our room on non-park days. We always have a fridge so we can have things to make sandwiches and snacks.

Dinner we usually do CS and in the past have been able to share meals. It seems this year that the portions are smaller so the days of meal sharing might be over. Generally we will book 1, sometimes 2, special TS dinners as a splurge.

Souvenirs, I will buy things at the DS when they have a sale. Now my kids look forward to the surprise in the suitcase. The kids will save up their own money before we go so that they can buy whatever they want while we are there.

There have been many days where we have spent less than $50 on food. I would say that the most I have spent in a day was $150, but that is having a TS dinner. I separate the food budget from the spending money and this year we stayed onsite for 14 nights we only spent $400 on the 'other stuff'. We just don't get a lot of ice cream or popcorn etc. and that stuff really adds up fast.

Thanks for the replies.

This time we're staying outside of the park and we plan on...

Breakfast - at our house, will buy things like bagals, cereal, etc.
Lunch - more than likely CS at the parks.
Dinner - typically outside the park.

We have only a handful of TS meals planned, so that helps.
We also booked BBB for DD, but that's something special just for her.

We too are doing the water bottles and koolaid singles - the kids love them!

So we're hoping to budget $125 - $150 per day.
