What does a sinus infection feel like?

I have a nasty cold. It started Saturday evening with a sore throat. Now the sore throat is gone, but I am sneezing and blowing my nose A LOT! My cheeks, just below my eyes, hurt and I have a forehead headache.

I'm hoping to get in to see my doctor tomorrow. I'm taking Mucinex and an OTC cough syrup. DH had this last week and he is on a short course of antibiotics. (I'm pretty sure this isn't an "allergy" thing.)

I've had ear infections as an adult, but never a sinus infection, so I'm not sure that's what this is.

The only thing missing here is a fever. Also, your sinuses may feel a little hot to the touch.

Sorry to hear you're feeling so crappy...sinus infections suck.

If it's very tender right underneath your eyes (and it sounds like it is), I'd guess that it's sinus.

Does your jaw hurt?

Sounds like a bad cold. Sinus infections don't usually set in that quickly. They usually follow a viral infection. Fever is pretty common along with pain/pressure around eyes and along your nose. Headache and lots of mucus that seems to never clear. Can't hurt to get checked.

I personally don't like taking antibiotics so I wait until I know I have one for sure since it usually resolves on its own. A Neti Pot brings great relief for those symptoms!:thumbsup2

Hope you start feeling better soon. :)

Oh yeah wanted to add I know I have one by the smell. Sorry if thats gross but its true.

My sinus infections manifest themselves differently each time. My eyes twitch sometimes. My jaw throbbed and ached (to the point that I couldn't move my jaw) another time. I don't get fevers so that's not one of my symptoms. Other symptoms I've had are a VERY stopped up nose, and a headache that hurts when you move your head.

Sounds like sinuses to me, but I'm not a doctor. I just have a lot of allergies and a lot of sinus problems because of it.

Something that will provide some relief if it is your sinuses is a Neti pot. They sound crazy but they do make you feel better. You can find one at a drug store over the counter like CVS or Rite Aid. It looks like a little watering can and you put saline solution in it and you flush out your sinuses with it.

I get sinus infections without having a lot of cold symptoms a lot of the time. Right now, I have pain just below my cheekbones and I feel like my upper teeth ache all the way up to the roof. Sounds like I'm working on one myself :headache:

Yep. I have chronic sinus issues. I've never gotten a fever. I get the above mentioned symptoms and also pain behind my eyes and migraine headaches. The tooth pain is like when you have braces first put on or tightened, at least for me.

It sounds like you do have the symptoms for a sinus infection as they are different for every person. Usually mine start out as a bad cold, then under my eyes and above my eyebrows (does that make sense? ) start to hurt, bad. Then I loose my voice.

The best bet is to see your doctor, asap.

I hope you feel better! pixiedust:

Mine sound like yours . I get them and they have nothing to do with cold symptoms. The comparison with having your braces tighten is right on. I usually get pain behind my eyes , towards the bridge of my nosewhere I pinch the bridge to feel better.

Upset stomach (not everyone, but I get it).
Fever.
major headache.
eyes hurt.
face can but doesnt always hurt.
ugly color snot (sorry).
Basically a cold that hangs on too long, and is too severe to be a "cold" ... but my doc wont treat it unless something like 7 or 10 days has passed... sop sometimes some people might fib a tad on the time :rolleyes1

Feel better. I hate Sinus Infections.

Something else! When you blow your nose your ears pop. BIg sign for this family!

Everything that everyone said plus FATIGUE.
I've had them and wondered why I was so tired, in addition to feeling like yuck. Hope you feel better soon.

Semi OT, When my 15 yr old gets Strep Throat, his first (sometimes only) symptom is an upset stomach. :confused3 It is very interesting how everyone's symptoms can be different.

I forgot about that one. I get SOOO tired. And sometimes, when I bend forward, I get this enormous pressure in my head.

But mostly my teeth ache :headache:

Well I can only speak for me, but imagine your head is on fire and you have a couple of drinking glasses put around your eyes with an anvil sat on top of them. And when it gets real bad like the inside of your head is being squeezed out through your ears...

Can you tell I don't enjoy it when I get a sinus infection?

Eye's hurt to open and bright light kills. Face hurts, head hurts, usually my head will feel like it weighs more than my whole body.

I second the ugly snot color (sorry from me too) usually yellowish to greenish. I also get blood in mine.

I have had way too many infections in my life but I usually don't get too much of a fever.

OP here - thanks for all the descriptions (yeah, even the gross ones!) My doctor feels that I do have a sinus infection, so ordered the same antibiotic that DH got. We're quite the pair, with our dueling nose-blowing!

I'll drag my butt to work tomorrow, since it's the end of the quarter and teachers need their mid-terms photocopied. That 3.9 hours goes fast, and I work alone. People just come into my room to drop off and pick up stuff, so I won't be infecting too many people.
