Hi, I just called SWA to see if I could check a case a water bottles. She said yes but it would depend on how they were packed. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions on how to secure case? Should I pack inside another box with padding? With SWA you can check 2 under 50 lb items per person. thanks for any suggestions.

Make sure Southwest allows boxes - they may not.

A case of half-liters in plastic bottles weighs about 28 pounds.

If you must bring water, waterproof it, please - in consideration of your fellow passengers. Wrap it well. Place it in a resealable plastic bag. Seal the bag. Place that inside another resealable plastic bag, facing the other way. Seal the bag. I think it's ZipLoc that makes really, really big bags.

Thanks. Southwest does take boxes but I decided to put some in ziploc bags in a suitcase added bubble wrap and beach towel but I think your idea about two ziplocs different directions is good. I will go back and do that. Thanks again

Have you thought about shipping the water? Just thinking that by the time you lug it to the airport and pay the extra money to ziploc it, you can ship it from costco for less than $8. You can ship it even if you are not a Costco member. I remember seeing the weight on my water I had shipped in July. I believe each case weighs 28 pounds. Order the water one week before you leave, place your arrival date and reservation number in the address area and it will be waiting for you when you arrive. :goodvibes

We always take a package of water bottles (12 bottles) with us. Never had a problem. I just double wrap it in plastic bags and put it in our checked luggage! :goodvibes

For our trip last October, I bought a case of water from costco.com and it was around $7 and that included the shipping. I placed the order 5 days before our arrival and it was at the resort by the 3rd day.
Could that be an option for you?

We had water delivered thru Costco for our December trip. But, I did use a rubbermaid tote, filled with food, juice boxes(in ziploc bags), wine, etc. Lined the tote with a hefty bag, then put a couple of towels in with the food and beverages. Duct taped the tote (securely) and sent it thru as a ckd luggage with Southwest. No problem. We then used the tote as a faux cooler for the trip! Worked great and used the tote for the return trip for our breakables.

What a great idea!:thumbsup2

LOL:rotfl: I just placed an order on Costco.com for something I could not find in store today. I will go straight back an check out the water. Thanks!!!I love costco.

Just another option to consider--a case of water isn't nearly enough for my family, my kids down it like nobody's business. Instead I take 4 reusable water bottles, and a Pur pitcher with a brand new filter in it. Much lighter and we have unlimited, non-stinky Disney water!

OK, why would someone ship so much water to Disney ? Are you walking around with the water bottles while inside the parks - or are you drinking it back at the hotel ?
How would you keep it cold if its not being drunk in the hotel ?

Just curious - I have never thought about this before and wondering if its worth planning for my next trip.

Thanks

I have read here a lot that Disney water is not so great. We drink a lot of water. Trying to plan ahead. I have read about taking couple bottles to park and refilling at soda station or water fountains and adding the Kool-aid or crytal light individual packets to help water taste better. But considering what they charge for a bottle of water:scared1: I figured I should bring some or have some sent ahead.

Brita pitcher a good idea as well. :thumbsup2 I also like the idea about the storage tub.:thumbsup2

I ordered two cases of water for 3 people over a one week trip in the heat of July. I MADE the kids drink a water bottle in the AM. we took one with us, drank another during our mid day break, took a second back at night and had extras to spare. I don't need to have my water ice cold so just being in the cool room was good enough for me. I did use the room's ice bucket to always keep one or two on the colder side if the kids wanted them that way. If you get headaches like me and my family does during the heat of summer it was a must for us to stay hydrated. Plus paying $15 for two cases vs. the average of $144 (that's $2 a bottle on property) was well worth it!

We have a suitcase just slightly bigger than a case of 16.9 ounce bottles. We stick the entire case - shrink wrap, cardboard base and all - in the suitcase and check it as luggage.

We've done it a bunch of times (ever since switching to Magical Express and losing the towncar grocery stop). There has never been a problem. Plus, we had an entire empty bag to pack extra things we bought on the trip. It avoided the 50lbs+ charges.

Now, flying mostly on JetBlue and Continental with their restrictive baggage policies, we'll be going the Costco route.

Thanks for the feedback from those who have used it - it's reassuring.

Regarding how to keep it cold, we load up the room fridge. We pull out a few bottles everyday and carry into the parks. What DH calls "Magic Kingdom Egg Water" doesn't bother me, but having the bottles in hand is a lot more convenient than stopping at water fountains, and loads cheaper than buying along the way.

Thanks for the info on Costco. I had a case sent. It was great. I also packed a suitcase with toaters pastries, chocolate milk boxes, capri-suns, etc. It was unpacked by security at the airport. They even opened the box of Capri-suns. They stuffed them back in box so straws got all bent. I guess the foil packages with liquid inside brought attention. So anyone wanted to pack beverages for the trip might want to avoid capri-sun type packing. Because they did not repack the suitcase well at all.
