I was standing at the bus stop today waiting for the kids to get off the bus.....my neighbor commented that I must be excited for our trip.....when others asked where I was going and I said US/IOA....several people chimed in and said...."oh you won't like it as much as Disney...."the kids won't have as much fun"...bla bla bla. I've already bought my tickets and was excited...I don't know why that brought me down but it did.......

You're going to have a wonderful time!

We were there this past May and will be again next month because we highly enjoy our time there. We love it so much, we have annual passes even though we live in the midwest. The rides are fantastic and the atmosphere is electrifying.

Meh, don't let it. IOA is a great park, even if you don't go on the thrill rides. Some people just like to make other people feel down. Dont worry about it, its fun. My finance and I go ALL the time, and she doesn't ride roller coasters or anything fun really, and we still have a lot of fun.

Those are people who have probably never been to Universal. It bugs me when I hear it and I live here! But...to each his/her own so if those people like pirates, princesses and fairies...more power to them. Just don't put down my dragons, mummies and cartoon characters.

My sister and myself visit from Europe for 2 weeks at a time and do all the parks. Of our 5 'children' with age ranges of between 11 and 32 all of them would chose Universal over Disney if they had to chose to only visit one of them. My sister and myself would probably choose Disney but it would be hard to go and not visit Universal.
When we asked them if they could only visit 3 parks which ones would they choose, 2 chose US IOA and MK, 2 chose US IOA and MGM with the 32 year old choosing US IOA and Epcot.

My guess is they have never been there or have gone only with very young children. I was very pleasantly surprised when we first visited US in 2004 as a side trip to WDW. I thought many of the rides equaled or beat most of WDW. Now we do sometimes do US/IOA trips only and skip WDW.

I had a similar question a few weeks ago and I think Inkognito hit the nail on the head....

Because Disney has some sort of mythical, pixie dust laden cult status that it achieves in many people's minds as a result of being raised on The Wonderful World of Disney (for us oldies) or the Disney Channel and cutting their teeth on Disney movies and being hauled on annual indoctrination sessions known as "vacations." Mind you, I say this as someone who has taken 63 Disney cruises and who lives in Celebration, right next door to the Mouse, so I know what I speak of! The indoctrination sort of reminds me of the scene in Wall-E with the babies ("A is for the Axiom, B is for Buy N Large, your best friend). And if Disney is All That Is Good, then anything in competition must be The Root Of All Evil.

I'm just glad that although I'm a Disney fanatic, it's not to the exclusion of other things. I love love love Universal, and with my Premier pass I probably go there more often than WDW now. I hate to say it, but if I do a ride by ride comparison then USF/IOA pretty much kicks Disney's butt in my mind.

It's sad when people think it has to be one or the other and that they have to bash the competition rather than just acknowledging that both have positives and negatives (Gasp! I know...Disney has NO negatives and Universal has NO positives...sigh).

I think there's a misconception out there that Universal is for adults and it's all roller coasters. But, even if those people thought that, they shouldn't have said it to you. Why try to bring you down on a vacation you're excited for? Some people are just negative.

*Sigh* I hate hearing that. I have very young children (age 2 and 5) and they love IOA and US just as much if not more than the Disney parks. For us, there is something for everyone there, the young ones and the adults, unlike some other places. We have APs to Disney, Universal and also Sea World and enjoy them all, I just don't get this thinking that you can only like one or the other.

I don't understand it either. We love US/IOA!! We spent a little over two weeks in Orlando in August 2007. There were 9 of us and ranged in age from 3.5 (my niece) to 71 (my mom). Everyone had a great time and can't wait to go back. I truly thought there was something for everyone. The 3.5 year old had a great time in Suess' Landing in particular. The teens loved the thrill rides (they're at the age where they think WDW is lame), and the adults enjoyed the shows (make sure you see the Hollywood Horror Make-Up show), the theming and the tamer rides. I found the parks to be clean and the employees friendly and helpful. Have a great time on your trip and don't pay attention to the negative people.

We are leaving for US in the morning. I was talking to the other moms at my sons bus stop this morning and was told the opposite!!
She said her kids LOVE Universal and would rather go there than Disney.
To each there own I guess!!
I know we will have tonnes of fun and you will too!!
Have fun when ya go!!!

Oh my Gosh......

I want to take this quote and paste this on every one of these "Psycho Disney" Fan posts. If I hear the quote "I'll just go where the magic is" one more time.....I'm going to puke.

And much like her.......I am a huge Disney Fan. My wife and I were married in Disney World back in March. I've visted the parks from Tennessee over 30 times now. And even visited Disneyland/DCA. So, I'm by no means a Disney "Hater". I love Disney. But........I LOVE UNIVERSAL/IOA AS WELL. And that's ok.

Universal is fantastic. Don't let anyone tell you any different.

Does Universal own most of central Florida like Disney does? NO.

So yes, you can see everything there is to see and do at Universal Orlando in 3 to 4 days. You can easily spend 8 to 10 days at Disney and still not see everything.

They are Different........but both are great.

Enjoy!

Very well stated.Thank you!!!:thumbsup2

Based on the unbelievable amounts of money they have to spend for the perfect WDW experience it HAS to be better than anything else on earth, or else they would look foolish. It would be like spending as fortune on your child at the BibiddiBobiddiBotique then finding out she would have been just as happy with Chuck-E-Cheese and a dip in the hotel pool, anything less than the perfection of WDW is unacceptable.

Thank you all so much! You are absolutely right! I am wiping all of the negative thoughts and energy from others out of my mind and really looking forward to our trip tomorrow. It is going to be 8 days of fun fun fun! I have only been to US once and never been to IOA...and the kids have never been to either. I am planning on having a great time...and if you all say it's great - then I'm sure it is!! WOOOO HOOOO...we leave in 12 hours!!:cool1: I plan on doing a trip report when I get back so keep an eye out for it! Thanks again for your positive thoughts......:)

We have gone to Disney and Universal for several years now and we love Universal just as much, if not more, than Disney. Universal has something to offer everyone. The hotels are great and the FOTL perk is better than the fast passes offered at Disney. We will be returning in Aug. again and always look forward to it.

pixiedust: pixiedust: Have fun, take pics, and tell us about all of your fun!

It doesn't matter where you go, what you do, or what you have... it seems so people just like to put others down. I think that they are envious and have to make themselves feel better by making others feel worse.

I enjoy every vacation I take. You can't compare different places to each other. I love Disney and I love Universal. Don't let anyone make you worry. Go and have a great time.

You will love it. We took the kids for the first time when they were 3 and 4. They would rather go there than Disney. DH feels the same way. I am the obsessed Disney fan, but I enjoy US/IOA. It is what you make it. Don't listen to others that are negative and you will have a great time.
