The "I've Waited Forever to Go Solo" Mom's Leaving Everyone Behind Trip! Updt 3/11

Allyson, I feel so bad for you in all the wet rain! Yuck. Our last night of our first trip three years ago we had tickets to the MVMCP and it poured for most of the day, and then on and off that night. You can hear the rain coming down in our video of Wishes. It was so sad. We had to put our running shoes in the dryer that night because we had an early flight and were coming home to snow. It was a depressing way to end the week. Thankfully my tears were not noticeable becasue of the rain. :sad1:

I hope things cleared a bit for you.

Suz

And on an unrelated off topic note:

As you may know I am a huge Rick Springfield fan. I think I've mentioned it before. Well I have been looking all year to see if he is playing in New England. Grumpy and I usually go once a year to see him. My Grumpy is such a good sport. Well no New England dates! About July or so I officially gave up that I'd be seeing my Rick this year. Well a few days ago I check the website just for kicks and low and behold he is playing in MA on Oct 17th! I was thrilled! I called Grumpy at work to ask if I could get tickets and have it be my birthday gift. This was the following conversation:

G:Go upstairs
Me: Why?
G: Just go upstairs.

So I do...

G: Open my dresser

So I do...

G: Look under my shorts

So I do and find an envelope

G: Happy Birthday, I already arranged a babysitter

He already got me tickets! How cool is he? He knew about this show a month ago and got tickets for us the day they went on sale! That is my man, oh how I adore him! Now I just need to get him to love the Mouse!

Allyson:surfweb:

I just love your castle pictures. Congratulations on the Rick Springfield tickets and Happy Birthday! That was very sweet of Grumpy.

You know I wish that I had Jesse's girl...

That's Rick Springfield, right!? What a lovely DH to get you tickets!! And a babysitter!! :thumbsup2

Sorry you had so much rain on your trip... what a bummer. At least you still got to do some fun rides, and see Wishes too!

Hey, you should pop over to the "January 2009... Who else is going?" thread! It's in the Countdown and Live Reports section. There's lots of us, chatting about our January trips. It's a whopping big thread, but lots of fun people! Come join us!! :thumbsup2

OK I just found your TR today and read the whole thing, although I should be working on my sewing. Let me just say.............................

YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have always wanted to go solo to the world, I have since I first fell in love with it on my 1st trip back in 2003. next year, i think hubby and I are going alone or our anniversary, something else I have always wanted to do. I hope to one day 1) get the courage 2)get hubby to watch the kids 3)get the money to do a trip like this. For now, I will live it through you. Maybe when I turn 30 in 2 years???I love your TR and can't wait for more.

I'm sorry your trip was so rainy! I guess if you have to be somewhere on a rainy day, DW would be the place, right? I'm glad you still got to see Wishes. SO cool that you got your own boat on POTC! And what a nice birthday present - there may be hope for Grumpy yet! :thumbsup2

When my boat pulled in at the end the CM said over the mic "What happened to your crew?", made me giggle.

I love when the CM's are like that. :thumbsup2

Cute picture. :goodvibes

The one place you don't want a raindrop. :headache:

Good for you doing the 5K! That is great! Have you done any races before? I did my first 5K in June and that adrenaline of being on the course with people will definately push you on.

Allyson

This is my first one! Thanks for your reassurance! :goodvibes

Ooh, your own boat on Pirates-cool!
Yes it was cool!

I sure hope that you get some dry weather sometime during the trip!

another great installment. can't wait to hear what you decided about bfast.

WTG Grumpy on scoring the tickets!
I'll let you know the sun does come out before I have to go home!

Very cool that you got your own boat on Pirates.

Those poncholess boys sound annoying,
They were quite annoying! LOL!

Too bad about all the rain! Hope the weather got better for you!

That is so cool about the tickets! Your DH is so sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes he is a keeper!

This where wew watched Wishes. It's a great spot!

Awesome. :cool1: I have to check the website and see if he is around here anytime soon
It is a great spot with a quick exit out too. I can't wait to see my Rick!

Oh Alyson, I felt sad reading that update! I hope the weather turns around for you soon!:goodvibes I am glad you stayed for Wishes, one of these days I actually need to stick around for the whole show too!:rolleyes1 I am so with you on the POTC drop thing, I was actually scared of that drop as a child!
Wishes is so great, do try and make it one of these times! And the sun does come out soon!

YAY! Not only were we solo buddies but we were the only people I know that rode POTC alone!!!! Awesome! And props to DH for the tix!!!!! He's a keeper!
It is kind of a cool thing to say you've done it!

Oy. It does look like it was pretty wet out there. Understatement of the year, probably! I know you said that it started to challenge your positive outlook on things but from where I sit you were a regular Pollyanna through this trip! I would have freaked out on POTC. I think I revealed over on Kat's TR that I still get scared in Snow White so ya can't blame me for being scared on Pirates! I know... SUCH a wimp!!! :rolleyes1

Yeah for Grumpy!!!! Good job!! :thumbsup2 Now, no disrespect to Mr. Springfield b/c I am a Jesse's Girl and General Hospital fan from way back but I gotta believe that if you can get this man to love Rick then WDW should be a piece of cake!
I'm working on it, getting Grumpy to love the Mouse. He's a tough, tough sell. LOL!

Have you ever heard the story of George? I was completely creeped out riding POTC with just my family in April -- I would have been even more freaked riding it all by myself!

What a great DH to get you tickets for Rick!!! :goodvibes
Is George the guy that died during the making of the ride? I think I've read something about that. Gosh I am glad I didn't think of that during the ride. EEEK!

Wow. It does look really wet out there.

I agree that BTMMR seems faster at night!
It was VERY wet out there!

Great pictures taken in the rain. Wonderful that you got to see Wishes.
Yes Wishes is such a wonderful way to end the day!

I'll have to go check out that thread! My DIS time has been difficult lately but I want to go see it!

Oh thank you! Glad you found me over here! I really think if it is something you've wanted to do you should. When the opportunity presents itself, go for it! I'm so glad I did!

I love when the CM's are like that. :thumbsup2

Yes have fun with it!

Is George the guy that died during the making of the ride? I think I've read something about that. Gosh I am glad I didn't think of that during the ride. EEEK!

Yes, and then the story goes that if you say, "I don't believe in George" then his ghost will make the ride stop!

OK - 1 trip report I'm subbed to that I've caught up on since being away for 2 weeks!

37 to go!!!

Yours was a priority for me since I am now going back in Decemebr with three 17 year olds whom I have NO intention of hanging around with all day!!! You've inspired me already - I have the Passporter Treasure Hunt book - maybe I'll finally bring it and work on it in the parks!

It's a solo-ish trip!!! :cool1:

Hey Allyson!
I feel soggy in my shoes just looking at these pictures. Wow. It is so great you really didn't let it stand in your way, though!

Today is Day One of the "real" half-marathon training for me. I decided to go with Stacy's modified version of Marathoning for Mortals. The thing that bothers me about that training plan is that the longest run is 10 miles and for myself, I feel like I'd like to run a bit closer to the race distance before race day.

So you say the sun DOES come out? That must have been SO nice. :sunny:

Hi Allyson and everyone here who made this such an enjoyable solo report to read! I just returned from Disney the first week of September and had an amazing time with my daughter (5) and my parents 72 & 79....but about 3/4 the way through the trip....with this and that left unexplored ((again)) I wondered what would it be like to come here by myself, maybe for a long weekend? :confused3

and you Allyson answered that question....I know that many people might look at me like I'm crazy when I do decide to do it.....but I can think of no better place to recharge my batteries, and discover some innermagic than at Disney ~ thanks again for helping my seedlings of an idea grow :goodvibes

Sorry for the lazy updating lately folks! I just haven't been able to find the time. It takes a good chunk of time to crank out a decent update with pictures and it has been scarce lately. I promise to try and be more efficient!

Okay so it is now Saturday morning, August 23. I wake up and carefully tiptoe over to the curtains to peek. And guess what? Sun! WOW! Now it was early, probably 6:30ish. I had that 8:10 ADR at Tusker House. This became another of those moments, kind of like conquering dining alone. You see, I kind of feel like I do a lot of things I might not really want to just because I don't want to upset someone, or say no, or create a problem. In short, I think I'm a doormat a lot of times. I'm a Libra, a peacemaker, I hate conflict. So as silly as it sounds I honestly had an internal struggle over this ADR. I didn't really want to go. I didn't feel like rushing to catch a bus there. I didn't feel like spending $25+ on breakfast for me when I'm not even a big breakfast eater. Yet the voice in my head was telling me it was too late, you couldn't cancel, someone else could have had your ADR, you can't break the rules and not show up.

So you know what I did?

I didn't show up. I just didn't go. I decided that I was going to do what I wanted and not worry about that I might have messed things up for Tusker House and that one person out there who might have wanted my little two top table. I just didn't show up. It was my way of rebelling I guess and I promise in the future to call and cancel ADRs but this was an empowering moment for me so it is what it is.

Instead I took my time getting ready, watched a little TV and moseyed over to Everything Pop for a little breakfast. I had a Cinnamon Roll ($2.59) and an Orange Juice (2.39) for a total of $5.31. Much more what I was looking to spend and quite satisfying for me. I got my breakfast at 8am and sat and ate it at my leisure.

I then took the bus over to AK and was still there early enough to be close to the turnstiles. It was sunny, it was hot! It was a nice change! We made it in and then it was time for the Good Morning show.

Ever so cute!

Once the rope dropped I walked towards Everest. I was being passed by a gajillion people. Gosh they were race walking! It was nuts. I got there and got my FP which was for like 45 minutes later I think, not long. I asked a CM about the Single Rider Line and they told me it would open around 10am. I hopped in the regular line and it moved fast. I think I was in it for maybe 5 minutes. I love the queue here, so much to see and so detailed. This is one of my most favorite rides and I was excited to go on it again. It would be the first of several for me on this day.

After it was over I found a Fat Yeti in the dump shop. I called home and asked Bashful if she would like that. She had wanted a Fat Pooh but I was only finding small ones. The Fat Mickey and Fat Minnie I had gotton the other kids were much larger. She told me as long as it wasn't "boyish" that yes the Fat Yeti would be good. So I bought it and had him sent to my resort. He is SO cute!

I walked over towards Dino Land. On my way I stopped at the little girl's room and when I came out Pluto was there and pretty much by his lonesome.

100_0587-1.jpg

My first character pic of the trip I think! What was nice about the sun being out aside from being dry and warm and not in a poncho was taking pictures! I took a lot this day, got my artsy groove on, because you could pull a camera out without fear of ruining it!

I headed off and decided to walk down a path I had never been on. It is quite shady and quiet and has dinosaurs on it. A nice cool private place to take a break next time you are in AK and need one.

100_0588.jpg

100_0589.jpg

Next up, and I don't know why, Dinosaur! This ride honestly scares the crap out of me. I know its not real, I know what is going to happen but just the darkness, the noise and the shakey jeep make me internally freak out every time. I was on the end on the right side. I told myself "That big bad dino will be on your side at the end, stay calm". This ride is SO herky jerky! If you have a bad back, please don't ride! And I was thinking I was going to fall out. I wish it had more of a side to the jeep. Yikes! But it was scary fun and no wait at all.

After I decided to walk over to Everest again and use my FP. I called home on the way. My family was packing up and heading to Maine. I was excited for them! I passed by a large group, it seemed like a tour group for employees, like a training or something.

A few of my shots as I made my way over to EE...

100_0591.jpg

100_0594.jpg

100_0595.jpg

100_0596.jpg

I used my FP and in no time was screaming like a girl past that big honkin' Yeti! This ride, to me, never gets old. I love the speed, the backwards/forwards, the view, the darkness, the Yeti and just how at first you think "this is nothin'" and then mid way through it picks up. I just love it!

After I finished my ride I noticed the Single Rider line open so I hopped back in. I only waited maybe 5 minutes. It is quite efficient and they throw singles in there pretty quickly. A nice way to get a quick ride. I think this was the time I rode with the young girl, she had never ridden before. She was maybe 10. Her dad and brother were in front of us. She had a great time!

Okay folks, it is time for my run so I must bid you adieu! I will be back with more EE, the lunch I had wanted last trip and a show I'd never seen before!

Allyson:surfweb:

Wonder if I saw you at AK that day at all.

I am so happy to hear that the sun finally came out!:thumbsup2 Good for you for just "doing what makes YOU happy!" So fun that rode Everest a bunch of times like that!:goodvibes

:cool1: An update! Yeah! We ate at Y & Y for the first time last month and just loved it! It was fabulous!

Can't wait to hear about your meal!
