Ahhh, the first week of school......

And the whole family is sick!!! This is my oldest DDs first ever week at school (pre-k), and she came home Friday with a bit of a icky nose. Now shes seems pretty good, but my yongest DD, myself and DH are now really ill (mostly me and DD#2). I have an appointment for them at the pedi, but not till 4.30, and DD#2 wont stop crying - I think she may have an ear infection. I just hope this doesn't happen before out trip to Disney in December!!!!

My kids got off the bus on the 3rd day of school and announced (in a really excited voice) "someone threw up on the bus!!" Only young boys can get so excited about something that disgusting. I told them to go in the house and wash their hands. To which they replied "why? "

Yeah, it's Snot Season here, too. Last year I was wiping noses from September to May, and we're off to a similar start this year. My little guy missed his second day of school last week thanks to a full-blown asthma attack, the likes of which we hadn't seen in over a year. Boo hiss!

Same here! Both of my girls suddenly have runny noses. I think my 4 year old brought it home from preschool already, and has given it to the baby.

She's been so healthy all summer...well, really since she quit going to day care last December, and here we are, two weeks into preschool, and is already sick.

Guess I better get used to it!

We had a round of colds, one ear infection and one case of pneumonia so far in our house!!!! I should get my nursing degree!! !!

My DD has a miserable cold she started yesterday and she came home from school today and told me the girl that sits next to her threw up in the hall today - woo hoo!

We usually make it to about the first week in Nov. before I start to worry about the stomach bug. I guess it will be early this year!!! Colds I can deal with - I HATE THE STOMACH BUG!!!!

Just cross your fingers we are healthy for our trip in Dec.!!!

It took my DS exactly one week from his first day of Preschool to get sick. He since shared his cold with DS2 and DH.
So far I am in the clear.

I just hope we get the sicknesses done and over with before our November trip

Well, back from the Drs - no ear infection, but DD#2 has some sores in her throat and on her hands (though it doesn't look like anything on her hands to me). I think the Dr called it Cocksickis... or something like that.... I think I have the same thing, because my throat is killing me. He said that there are no meds for it, and she will get worse before she gets better - woo hoo! I think I have the same thing... only good thing is that DD#1 is pretty much better, and will be back in school tomorrow for PICTURE DAY! Hope everyone else feels better.

Well, back from the Drs - no ear infection, but DD#2 has some sores in her throat and on her hands (though it doesn't look like anything on her hands to me). Oh, noooooo. It's also called hand, foot and mouth disease - cleverly named for the areas where you get blisters. DS2 had that in May. It was BRUTAL!!! He couldn't eat anything, was drooling all the time, and his breath stunk from all the crap that was oozing out of the sores in his throat. He wasn't sleeping at all, either. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I takes a week to pass, and it clears up in a snap once it's run it's course. My son was miserable on Thursday, and totally fine on Friday. It's highly contagious, but nobody else in my house came down with it. From what I was told, most people are exposed before they turn 5 - some get sick, some don't, and once you're exposed you won't get it again.

Hand, foot and mouth is very painful.....sorry she has this. Lots of TLC for her.

We have already been to the doctor for our son and he is on antibiotics. I like to call school the petri dish.

The Dr said that she probally got it on Thurs or Fri, and we were at the mall on Friday, so I'll bet she got it there - darn Disney store! As far as the bad breath, I haven't smelled that, but I have a stuffy nose. All I know is that her birthday party is this Sunday, so I just hope my poor baby will be better by then.

Did your son have a runny nose with it too? She does, and its terrible! I wish they had never taken the decongestants off the market - I feel so bad I can't do anything for her other than torture her with the nasal asperator!

Decongestants aren't off the market - you just need to ask for them at the pharmacy counter and some states are requiring that you provide a form of ID (driver's license) before they give it to you.

Thats for adults and older kids. For infants and up to 2-3 years old they have been taken off the market. Its because mothers were giving their kids to much to often.

My two are home yesterday and today.
DD went to the walk in clinic on Saturday. No meds said it was allergies.
Both went to drs yesterday. Strep.
They are filling much better. They WILL be going to school tomorrow.

I don't remember a runny nose with it specifically - but his nose runs almost constantly from Fall til Spring, so he could've had one and I just don't remember. What works great at night are the Triaminic fans with the vapor pads. I put one in his room at night when he's particularly oozy, and it clears his nose enough so he can sleep. I get them at Walmart, right in the kid's med section.

Oh - one more thing - change her clothing often if it's wet with drool, and her bedding every morning, and try to keep your other kids away from her as much as possible (laughable, I know). Her drool is carrying the virus, since the sores in her throat are oozing. If she gets blisters on the hands and feet, those are virus pockets, too - so watch for when they pop and wash the area ASAP.

Ugh. I'm so sorry she has this. It was so unpleasant.

When my DD had hand foot and mouth it was horrible. She also had an ear infection. The doctors office had me mix liquid benedryl and maloxx (I know I spelled them wrong - sorry!) and i used a syringe to give her small amount to the back of her throat to help ease the pain and discomfort. I wish you luck!
