Mandatory evacuation of the Florida Keys just ordered

"Florida Keys to evacuate starting tomorrow for the visitors and Sunday for the residents. The order is mandatory, not voluntary".

Good luck all, let's hope Ike keeps on tracking south.

I sure hope something comes and sweeps Ike out to sea so it bothers no one. Things are busy in the tropics for sure.

We are starting to get a little rain now from Hanna. She is getting a little stronger.

Everyone is getting geared up here in Southwest Florida. I don't know if it's strong denial or what, but I think it's too early to be so worried. I think it could go more west than north.

Right?

Let's just hope it goes south and not in the gulf. Gas prices are still too high but have been moving in the right direction. If a big one goes through the gulf gas prices will go up overnight. Don't know why they do those 5 day tracks. We all know it can change overnight. I went to bed one night and Fay was going to hit Tampa, when I got up the next morning it was going to Melbourne. That's about 140 miles further east. I don't even start looking close until about 2 days before. I don't blame them for evacuating the keys though. I don't think I would take many chances down there. Only one way in and one way out.

Better to be safe then sorry. Not many options for getting out of the Keys. Can be a long process getting people out. I don't blame them. According to the weather channel they could start feeling effects from the storm by Monday or Tuesday.

Agreed, I am far from one of those "OMG EVACUATE NOW" kind of people, having lived here all my life. However, even 4 days out, if a Cat 4 is even remotely threatening the Keys, they need to get those people out of there.

You can't tell them one day before when the forecast is more accurate that "ok, leave now" because it will be too late. As much as I hate the fear mongering done by most weather people when it comes to hurricanes, this is just one chance they cannot take. If a Cat 4 was to hit the Keys head on, and as they predict (right now), sit over the Keys for almost 24 hours, you're talking about almost total destruction of the Keys.

People can't just mess around with that, even 4 days out. It's not like us on the mainland, these are people that are just a few hundred yards from the ocean and a Cat 4 would swamp them.

Fortunately, the track continues to move more and more south. Let's hope for the best.

btw, here is the 8 PM advisory, they have tracked it a bit more south, which follows the trend and is good news, just need it to track even more south and miss all of Florida and Cuba (unfortunately that means it goes into the Gulf, and lately Gulf hurricanes have been the worst)

Stay away Ike. Keep him out of the Gulf diesel is just starting to get affordable.

Louisiana can't take another hit. Terrebonne Parish is still w/o out power.
