How much is a trip to Williamsburg?

Ok, DH will be at a business meeting out of town for a week. I was thinking of taking the kids somewhere for the week.

We haven't been to Williamsburg yet, but I am wondering what kind of a budget I would be looking at.

What are must sees while there?

Go to www.colonialwilliamsburg.org the site will give you prices and packages of motels in the colonial area. A lot of your costs will be determined by where you stay, where you eat etc. Me, DH and DS usually manage on about $500 for the weekend.

Also I don't know what week you are going, or if you homeschool, but Sept. 12-27 they are having a homeschool experience. Lots of hands on activities for homeschoolers.

Busch Gardens is not open in Nov, so you don't have that cost. On the GoWilliamsburg website, they have the America's historic Triangle ticket for 75.25 adult and 32.25 kids ages 6-17 (plus some tax I assume). They are good for 7 conscutive days' admission to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement, Yorktown Victory Center, Historic Jamestown, and Yorktown Battlefield.

If you are a AAA member, I would check the AAA Carolinas website (not the national one; the Carolinas one sells tickets specific to the area in addition to what's on the national website). They probably sell some kind of Colonial Williamsburg ticket.

I will look at that. That is a decent price and I am sure I can figure out a food budget.

We are studying US History this year, so I would love to take the kids!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express while we were there and really enjoyed our stay. It wasn't terribly expensive.

We stayed at a Quality Inn and it was OK, until we tried to check out a day early. Dh had already called the 800# to tell them we were checking out early and they still tried to charge us. GRRRR. We passed through again on our way back down south and stayed at a Comfort Suites which was much better.

We are thinking of going there too. What time of year is best? We were thinking next summer but our daughter is not in school yet so we can go anytime. I would love to go off peak season and get good airfare but I want things to be open and the weather to be nice enough to enjoy them. Any suggestions?

How about somewhere between the middle and end of May? Busch Gardens is open, and Water Country usually opens around Mother's Day. Or if you can wait til September, go in early September. You could combine it with a day trip to Virginia Beach, the water would be warm, and the tourists would be gone. Actually, I think September would be the better bet. You could probably find better airfare rates then.

We just got back from a Williamsburg vacation a couple of days ago. We camped at Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center. It was a great camping site and very inexpensive. We managed to work around TS Hannah. But it was great. We drove down to VA beach twice and the kids went Boggie Boarding. It is about an hour drive from Williamsburg. The beach is very well kept and they have a no profanity law in town.

My brother is Millitary, so he bought all the tickets at a discount. We bought the tickets separate because Water country and Busch Gardens were only open on the weekend. I suggest at least two days for Colonial Williamsburg, one day for Yorktown, one day for Jamestown, a Busch Gardens day, and a Water Country day. If you get a bounce pass and go in the summer, you can come and go to any park for 7 days.

As far as when to go, it was very hot in September. It was over 90 degrees on both our CW days. I suggest May timeframe.
