New ships - speculation?

Sorry if this has been asked before (search function is horrible).......but when is the first new DCL ship supposed to sail for the first time? Any guesses on when the tickets for the cruise will go on sale?

I'm just trying to decide whether to book a "dummy" cruise when I'm sailing in November and then transfer it when the new ship prices come out......

Thoughts?

The advantage of booking while onboard is you will save 10% off the base fare of the cruise (categories 4-11) as well as get an onboard credit. If you are sure you will cruise on DCL again, I would book the dummy date when you cruise in November.

Have the new ships even been started yet? I've been looking on here for any info and can't find it. RC is releasing information on their new Oasis bit by bit and it sure keeps the excitement going

It's gone very quiet re: The New Ships. Even a rumour would give us something to speculate about :)

I'd expect rumors from recent cruisers, but have seen nothing here. I'm so excited to hear what the new ships will have-doesn't anyone have any news??

Passporter just says that the first ship is suppose to be delivered to Disney in 2011, and the 2nd in 2012. No indication of month, etc.

Editing to say I googled the topic and found a site called cruiseexperts - they list it as spring 2011 and spring 2012.

I wish I could reme, ber which post I was reading the other day.... The person stated that Captain Henry had just returned from vacation in Germany and he checked in on the new ships. He said the first one may be ready as soon as late 2010!!!! :yay: :cool1: :woohoo: :dance3: I am still going to plan on spring 2011 and hope for an earlier surprise. If I come across the post, I will add the link.

We actually just sailed on the Magic (Aug 10-17) and Tom McAlpin (prez of DCL) was with us. He said he was heading to Germany to check on progress of the ships after our sailing.

did you get to meet Tom or hear him speak. Any hints about the new ships?

Actually both. Heard him speak then met him when I was up on deck 9 for the deck party that replaced the pirate party that had to be moved indoors. He was quite nice but gave NO hints on the new ships. Not even my charming questioning could get it out of him. :lmao:

I can't wait to see what they have in store for us! Does anyone know if they have started building yet?

I was told that it cannot book dummy date for new ship.:confused3

Can book dummy and change for 2010 for old ship not new one.

The new ships are being built by the same company Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany as the first 2 ships.

Here is an interesting presentation on the expansion of their building dock to accomodate the "Tandem Construction Method" or building the two halves of the ships. Specifically pages 13-18.

Also, here is the google link to the map of the area. It's to the the left of the A under the word MAHLBUSEN.

Finally, here is a link to the Meyer Werft website. They do have a web cam, but it's only updated weekly and does not show the Disney ship.

Enjoy!

Well, the DVC Members Cruise is about a month away, hopefully they will reveal something then.

does anyone know if they started physical work on them yet or are they still in the planning stages?

when we were on the repo in may the capt. slipped and said they were expecting delivery of the first ship late 2010 and the second early 2012. he didn't know when they would actually start sailing though.
