dining questions

I knw that each night for dinner you are assigned a resturant to go to. What about lunch and breakfeast? Is one dining room open and you jsut go to it or are each open and you go to your assigned one? Do the dining rooms open for lunch? I guess I only hear about dinner but never about the other two meals.

Also how is the food. I have read the food used to be not so great, but has gotten better now. Is that true. What are some of the good dishes? Do they ever serve lobster?
I am looking at sailing on the wonder, fi that helps.

There is usually one restaurant open for breakfast and lunch and Beach Blanket Buffet is also open. These are all unassigned seating (although you will probably be seated at the restaurant - just not at your "official" assigned table as you have for dinner). BBB is basically find your own seating (either inside or outside). You can also eat at the more "fast food" type places - Goofy's, etc that are located around the kid and family pools.

No lobster on the Wonder that I know of.

I'm not a lobster fan, so I don't remember seeing it on the menu. But I have vague memories of seeing someone at the table next to us eating lobster or crab or something?

I thought the food was AMAZING!!! But then again, I'm no gourmet. But I didn't have a dish that I thought was bad. Everything tasted wonderful. And I learned quickly that our server's recommendations were on target every time. If I took his recommeded dish, it was incredible. If I chose one on my own it was only great. But his were always the best! If I were to do it again, I'd take his recommendations every time!

We never tried the dining room during lunch. We liked to grab it by the pool. Goofy's had great wraps and fresh fruit (mmmm pinenapple!). Pinocchios had good pizza and chicken fingers. It was all good!

We found the food to be very good at every meal. I think the only thing we didn't like was a dipping sauce at Palo that had anchovy in it. As for other meals, we ate breakfast every morning at Beach Blanket Buffet, and had lunch on Castaway Cay on the two days we were there. On Nassau day, we ate lunch at Goofy's or Pluto's after we returned from our excursion.

We just got back from the Wonder (8/10-8/14) and can share these eating stories:

--My folks had breakfast everyday at Beach Blanket Buffet and loved it. I don't usually eat breakfast but one morning I went to BBB and had a blueberry muffin (probably the best one I've ever had with huge real blueberries), oatmeal and some scrambled eggs. My mom had lox and bagel everyday and was in heaven. My final day on the ship I had the lox and bagel and was very happy.

--We had lunch on Castaway Cay at Cookie's and at the adults-only restaurant on Serenity Bay. I couldn't get enough of the fresh, juicy mango. Loved the couscous as well as the shrimp/salmon skewers. I had several helpings of the couscous. I don't eat meat so I can't comment on the carniverous food items. Make sure you enjoy the famous chocolate chip cookies...I had at least two each day we were on the island.

--The day we were in Nassau I didn't stay there very long (after touring Atlantis and playing a few slots at the casino I was ready to come "home" to the ship) so for lunch I enjoyed a slice of delicious pizza from Pinnochio's and a panini (sp?) sandwich from Goofy's.

Personally, the food at the dinners was so plentiful and so delicious that I didn't want to fill up at lunch so I tried to go easy in order to pig out at dinner.

Dinner items I loved: Coquilles St. Jacques (had two servings), Pearls of the Caribbean (Pirate night dinner--a couscous and seafood dish), tomato/basil soup, mango/honeydew soup, cream of onion soup (can't go wrong with the soups...they're awesome), the famous cream brulee (could have eaten two of them if I hadn't already felt like I was going to explode), potato gnocchi, vegetable strudel.

Especially for breakfast. They bring your food to you, what can be better than that? It's lighter fare, no bacon and eggs, but to enjoy cereal, fruit, donuts and muffins, all in the quiet of your room, still in jammies, especially if you have a balcony, mmmmmm......heaven.

Didn't do much other room service for this trip, but snacks are wonderful from room service, especially dessert-type items if you pass on dessert at dinner or while getting ready for the show/dinner. We noticed a lot of trays outside rooms, so others were doing room service all times of the day. One particular room had room service every day, sometimes twice. So it must have been good.

You didn't say which ship you are booked on...unless I missed it.

On the Magic, there is lobster one night. Sometimes, there is also lobster at the adults only food place at Serenity Bay on Castaway Cay (I suspect it was left over from the night before!)

Your only assigned seating is at dinner. For breakfast, you can do room service, the buffet, or whichever restaurant is open (this is detailed in the Navigator). At lunch, there are generally 2 restaurants open plus the buffet and "fast food" outlets on deck 9. At odd hours, there are the fast food places, the fruit/ice cream/sandwich places, late night snacks by the nightclubs, etc.

The real question is whether you wish to sit down and be served for breakfast and lunch or whether you want to grab something quickly by the pool...or have it brought to your room. No matter what you decide, you can't go wrong.

As to food quality--I didn't find most of it at breakfast and lunch to be the absolute finest food I've ever eaten at the most expensive restaurant....but I found it to be very good. For dinner, it ranged from very good to excellent. In general, I found the sit-down stuff to be better quality than the buffets, but that's to be expected. The desserts everywhere were wonderful!

I haven't booked anything yet, still deciding between Disney and Carnival. I am looking at the Wonder though. Thats a bummer no lobster. I thought all cruises had a lobster meal.
Honestly most of the food descrbied don't sound good to me, or I have no clue what they are.
I looked at the picture thread just a bit, and so far, it isn;t looking as wonderful as I expected.
I guess I have to do more research before deciding.

Some time ago, a DISer posted her food porn slide show. Take a look at it as well. You do need to understand that she was on a 7 day cruise (Magic), so there were more options being there are more menus throughout the week. Of course pictures still don't speak to the taste. Have you found any scans of menus from the 3 or 4 day Wonder cruises? That would explain the breakdown of the entree as opposed to wondering what a fancy name is for the dish.
