Golf Carts at the Fort.....waaaaay out of hand

ok, i'll admit life is good...i am sitting here eating a gingerbread man listening to the electrical water pageant music (300 loop) and wishes is about to start......BUT....... i hafta say, and i don't mean to complain or get flamed but what in the HECK is going on with the golf carts at the fort?????

just today ALONE, i have witnessed carts passing other carts in the opposite lane, 90% of the drivers are around 12-14 yrs old, two licensed motorcycles driving around the settlement area, carts without headlights barely visible at night, carts loaded up with 7-8 people and the worst BY FAR of all, a cart with 5 people, one of them a young mother holding a newborn in a car seat riding on the back. i cannot understand why disney isn't enforcing the rules more. i mean, what good are rules if they're not enforced? it is only a matter of time before something really serious happens. also, what is with the carts loaded with kids speeding through the loop well after dark (around 10:00) screaming at the top of their lungs!!! grrrr!!! the problem with the young drivers is they don't know the rules of the road, most of these incidents were with young drivers, notably the one crossing in to the opposite lane and also not using headlights. i know this just can't happening while i'm here, it is probably all the time. anyways, just had to vent cause i just couldn't believe what i was seeing, this has been since we got here, but it was especially bad tonight.

I've seen alot of that also this week. Around 8:00 tonight there was something going on a couple of sites down from us there was a firetruck at one of the sites not sure if someone got sick or hurt. They left after about 15 min and no ambulance ever showed up.

We have been by your site a few times but havn't seen anyone outside. We are in site 1443 until Sunday morning. We have the cart with the big red Mickey head on the back of it.

Ugh...we didn't see as many issues with carts this spring. I sure hope they simply enforce the rules they already have rather than making new ones because of this. I'd hate for a few to ruin it for the rest of us!

oh my gosh, i think i saw you! Were you heading in to the settlement area about 8:30 or so? then you passed our loop shortly after? We were walking back from crocketts tavern, we had nachos and mudslides, lol. we don't have a cart and after seeing the way its been this week so far, i am kind of glad. anyways, i LOVE your red mickey on your cart! now i am wondering what was going on down your way! we seem to have a wild bunch in our loop this week, kids beeping cart horns, tons of skateboarders too. it reminds me when they used to let 12 yr olds drive the water sprites, til people were getting hurt and they upped it to needing a drivers license. i wish there was a way to enforce this with the carts but you can't exactly follow everyone around; maybe they need more security policing the area, not sure but disney needs to do something before someone gets hurt or killed

Does FW have security vehicles that drive around patrolling? The campground that we go to (Slippery Rock Camground Association) has patrol vehicles and will stop anyone doing anything wrong, and will check for licences. They give special cart licenses to kids 14-16, and will revoke them if they get caught going against the rules. Adults will get "yelled at" for having more that 4 on a cart, which has been a problem for some when 2 mothers with say 3 or 4 young kids between them want to go to the pool. Anyway, it seems like stricter enforcement is needed.

I see carts being driven by young kids at places we go that allow carts. I have no problem with kids driving them as long as an adult is in the cart. You tell me you didn't like driving when you were that age and what a thrill it was. Unfortunately some parents will let a young teen drive off and the chances are they will drive reckless. I talked to someone during 4th of July who Disney did enforce on. The 1st day they were there they let their son drive the cart and Disney escorted him back and told them the rental had been revoked. Evidently he was caught driving it pretty crazy. She also told me it was rented for ten days and they didn't get a refund. She was working with the manager (Jens best friend) about getting her money back.

I personally would've ended the boys vacation and punished him accordingly, but they did let him on it and she admitted it was wrong.

This one place we go to (Ginnie Springs) has what they call a Ginnie Jail. If you're caught riding a golf cart, 4 wheeler after dark they take it away for the duration of your trip. They recently banned 4 wheelers because of idiots but they won't hesitate to throw you out with no refund for being stupid and breaking rules. If Disney operated like that the campground would have more empty spaces lol.

We were there at the beach watching Wishes Sunday night. After the fireworks, it was mayhem. We had 2 small children with us and we were almost run over by carts several times.

Thats is why we only go in the off season (when school is in). On our last summer trip the kids on the rental carts were out of hand so bad Disney had the local police there to enforce the speed limits and licenses. There were a lot of unhappy campers that week (Aug 2006). They thought the RULES didn't apply to their kids. Disney confiscated their rental carts with no refund.

Good for Disney!! You don't hear these enforcement stories enough!

Parents know exactly what the rules are and why the rules are in place - unfortunately, we seem to have a society that feels rules are meant to be broken (isn't it exciting to be a law-breaker!!) or are meant for someone else.

Yes they do. Yes we have been stopped before for our lights that went out. They got us before we got back.

I for one try to be more careful than others because we own our cart. If I wreck it, I have to put the work back into it to fix it. Now granted, old granny can't get out of her own way, but I certainly don't do things that would get me in trouble with the cart either.

you're right; last night after i typed that and thought about it, i saw more rentals doing these things than any of them. i was thinking what i said only contributed to the problem, certainly not the entire problem and i didn't mean to come across that way. the bottom line is, disney has to start getting more strict with enforcement for any and all golf cart users.

I definately think the people renting carts are much more careless...what do they care if Disney's cart gets a scratch on it or blows a tire. I worked hard to get a cart I could be somewhat proud of, and certainly dont want it messed up for anything that I could avoid.

This thread has brought a question to my mind, though....what if some moron in a rented cart were to damage my cart....does Disney pay to have mine repaired? Would the driver be held responsible for damage repair? Would I be out of line for grabbing a 12 yr old by the throat to use his head as a buffer to repair a scratch he may have made on my cart? Is it against Disneys policy to tie a bad teenager to the front of my cart and ram into a tree repeatedly?

No, Disney will not pay. Renters sign waivers when they rent. The renters homeowners will pay assuming they have a homeowners policy. Otherwise, your other suggestions may work.

I'm with you on this one Rog. I've got way to much of my time and money invested into my cart to be wreckless with it. I have watched many of rentals park next to my cart and wonder to myself if he hits my cart do I have enough inner strength to not kill the guy and then get into my cart and run over him and them back over him again. Do you think that I would be at fault if that happened And I'm just waiting for one of those rentals to do something stupid and try and run from me in a rental cart because I KNOW there is no rental cart at Disney that I can not catch
