Hi

We will be at WDW the week of Aug 13-18 and we will be staying at POP we have a ressie for Trails End Buffet that saturday at 9:30? I ve been there but it has been many years.
We will have our van so if needed we could drive. We are meeting the rest of our group that day at DHS or MK.

My ?? are
Should we drive to breakfast then drive on to the park?
Should we take Disney transpertation to FW and then on to the park?
If we drive or ride DT how long should it take us?
What time should we leave POP to make our ressie?

I guess which is the eaisest and most simple?

If we do drive how is the best way to get there? (FT) I guess I could ask someone at the hotel lobby.

Thank you for your help,
Shannon

:thumbsup2 We stayed at Fort Wilderness (cabin) this past May. We loved it! It was nice staying at a quiet place away from all the chaos of the parks. We didn't even feel like we were at WDW. It was very hard to get around once inside the campgrounds with a car. There were nice roads and a parking spot for our car at the cabin. But, the pools, restaurants and stores were only accessible by walking or golf cart. We ended up renting a golf cart.

If you drive and are a non-FW guest, you have to park your car in a parking lot at the resort entrance. Then, take an internal bus back to the area where Trails End is located. They do not have car parking back there to keep the car traffic to a minimum.

If you don't want to drive, take a bus to MK and then take the boat from MK to FW. The boat drops you off near TE. Then, take a bus from FW to DHS.

It honestly depends on whether you want to drive or take Disney transportation.

In my opinion . . . If driving, leave at least one hour prior to your ADR time. If you are taking Disney transportaion with all the changes, leave at least 1 1/2 - 2 hours before ADR time.

Have a magical trip! :wizard:

Actually, your best bet is probably to stick with Disney Transportation, because the FW parking is not near the Trails End and the MK Parking is at the TTC. Pop and FW are not that far from each other and both are relatively close to the MK. So you can take a bus from Pop to the MK and then take the BOAT from MK to FW. The boat is especially good because it drops you off right near the restaurant (as opposing to bussing it to FW where you'll get stuck with the internal bus again).

I would leave at least an hour for the trip, since you may need to wait for the bus from Pop and/or for the boat from the MK.

Jennifer thank you for your suggestions, I see you are from Texas can I ask where in Texas. I live in East Texas (close to Nacogdoches).

Thanks, Shannon

:goodvibes No problem.

We live in the DFW area. We drive by the exit for Nacogdoches every time we drive to WDW. ;)

Thank you for both suggestions I think I was leaning toward doing DT but I did want the opinions of others since I have not been to FW area in many many years. Taking the boat to FW seems like a nice ride for that morning.
Thanks again, Shannon

Jennifer it is nice to meet a fellow Texan we are about 3-4 hrs. from the DFW area. I do not know much about the area, my sister and her family use to live in Mesquite then Lewisville then they moved to Nacogdoches. I am about 25 miles from Nac. out in the country my address is Center, Texas but everyone seems more fimilar with Nacogdoches with Stephen F. Austin college being there.
I am glad I made this post so now I will know the best route to take and not be driving all round making my DH go nuts.

well, we stayed in the cabins at Fort Wilderness in Nov and my parents stayed at the Pop. They always drove over in their car and then parked - hopped on a bus to where ever we were meeting them with in the campground.

My thinking is- you will have to get off one bus at the front of the campground to board another no matter how you arrive the Fort... so driving myself directly there is IMO the best way to get there.

So what I'm saying is to drive! IF you do go the back way NOT the front entrance by the Magic Kingdom. Rather take a right out of POP, at the light where the firehouse is take another right- you'll be heading towards DD. Take a left when you see the turn for OKW- go straight until the road ends- take a left and the Fort will be on the left. :confused3 Got that?? :rotfl:

:thumbsup2 If you take the boat from MK, it docks right near all the restaurants and shops. So, you don't have to take the internal bus to the restaurants. Also, it is a really nice relaxing ride. Now, I can't comment how relaxing the ride from Pop to MK will be. But, it will be a short ride. ;)

I sure love my navigation system in our van. If you are driving to WDW, I highly recommend getting one. The prices have come down since they first came out. If you are a Costco member, they always seem to have some great deals for them online.

there's a boat at the POP? that will take you to the MK? Then you'd have to take the FW boat to the campground?? I had no idea there was boat at the POP.
I enjoy the boatride from the campgrounds to the MK- unless it's raining.

There are a lot of Texans on here. There's even a local DISers group that gets together for lunch at least every other month. Haven't been able to go yet, but plan to. Living in Texas, we live close enough to WDW to drive if wanted. DH has done the drive non-stop a few times. However, usually we stop overnight in Crestview, FL. It is our family tradition. Stay at the Jameson Inn and have dinner at the Cracker Barrel next door.

DH usually does most of the driving to WDW. So once we arrive, he usually doesn't want to get back into the car until we head home. ;) We use the Disney transportation as much as possible. It's one of the perks for staying on-property.
