Hi everyone,

We are now just under 70 days from our Disney-at-Home wedding and I want to start this journal to share my ideas and advice for those who want a Disney wedding but can't do it for whatever reason.

I'll start this PJ with our engagement story.

Scott and I met in 2002 through an internet messageboard for a band we both liked. We'd been chatting for a little while through email and met face to face a few months later at a board meet in my hometown. A year later, at the start of the 2003-04 school year, I found myself needing a place to live for various dull reasons while I started college. Scott has been complaining how much he hated living alone and I ended up renting his spare bedroom. It worked out really well and he proposed at Christmas 2006.

The proposal was on the beach in a small seaside town called Eastbourne. We go there every Christmas for a few nights as the singer of the band we met through does an annual charity concert in a church nearby. Scott didn't buy a ring in advance as he wanted to be sure I would like it. We'd had lunch at a favourite restaurant and then went to the beach where we took some photos and he proposed, I got the full down on one knee treatment as I sat on a bit of wood.

We picked out our rings over the follwoing week and picked them up from the jewellers on Christmas Eve.

Rings.jpg

We agreed that the only fair way to decide who was told first out of the two families was to keep to our original Christmas plans and simply tell whomever we saw first (actually that's not strictly true, the first person we told was the singer of the band that night as if not for him we would not have met. We made a point of going to say thank you.)

We were spending Christmas with Scott's family so they found out first thing Christmas morning. Scott said he had "something to tell you" and they all froze thinking perhaps I was pregnant! When we announced our engagement, they very all over the moon. I doubt many Christmasses will top that one now as on Dec 11th, their first grandchild had been born and was now lying on the coffee table asleep.

My family found out a few days later. They (as would become a theme) weren't quite as elated, simply because they don't really place much value on marriage unlike Scott's family. My sister is unmarried with two children (although it was just 1 at the time) and my parents just had a quickkie wedding when mum figured she was pregnant with my sister! Scott's mum on the other hand would have beaten Scott (and his sister) with a broom if either had a baby outside wedlock.

Our first official act towards the wedding was sending out our Save the Dates which I made on the computer.

SavetheDateFinalInt.jpg

Obviously we are really just tying up lose ends now but I hope to update with posts on the various things we've done to Disney-fy our wedding.

Thanks for reading!!

Hiya!! You're just down the road from me!!!

Your proposal and plans sound fantastic, but i'm curious...

... WHICH band?! LOL

They were called easyworld, split up in 2004, most they ever managed was a top 20 single so they're not exactly well known. Between us we've seen them over 60 times though!

Did they do a cover version of 'Luka'?

Anyhow.... we need wedding details?! Are you getting married in the sunshine capital of the UK that is Leeds? (and that is me being sarcastic!! LOL) We need dress pictures!!

Oh... and me and my hubby met because of a band! :goodvibes

For some reason, the first thing we did on the wedding was organise our wedding cake! We're both big chocolate lovers and Scott hates all forms of fruit so the flavour was pretty much a given. I found a cake company we liked the designs of and enquired with them. http://www.chocart.co.uk

We wanted this cake:
cake1.jpg

With one of these two as toppers to start our Disney theme:

World.jpg

However when we enquired, they were already fully booked, yep 19 months out!!! Well it was probably a good thing as that really drove it home to us to get a move on with important stuff.

Next we looked at http://www.cakesnouveaux.com and saw this:
cake2.jpg

Admittedly that one (with a few changes, no monkeys for example) was so tempting but I got talked out of it and am kinda glad about it now as it would have been a bit OTT. But we ended up ordering with these guys anyway and getting this cake:

OurCakeBase.jpg

However we made a few changes. We asked for no topper, so we could place our own, and we also asked for red roses and vines trailing down the cake in a similar style to the one above. These are being made from sugar paste and marzipan. lastly we are having a dusting of edible glitter for some extra bling!

We got our cake topper in the sales from the Walt Disney Classics Collection. No one has seen it except us, it has lived in its box under the bed since got it. It was kinda expensive but will be joining our figurines after the wedding:

2006CinderellaCakeTopper.jpg

The cake will be delivered to the venue the day before the wedding and we'll get a picture emailed to us a few days in advance. I can't wait to eat it! We were sent cake samples in the mail (bit squished when they arrived but who cares?!?!) and it was SO good! Our cake is chocolate sponge with chocolate ganash filling.

If you get chance, go and have a look at some of the cakes on our cake makers site, they are beyond fabulous. Especially take a look in the "Work in Progress" album at the carousel cake - it's unbelievable!

They did cover Luka yes, it was a b-side.

We're actually getting married in Lincoln, Scott's home city where we're trying to move back to whenever we manage to sell our Leeds place. Anyway Leeds is very sunny today!!

We wanted to marry at WDW but we had too many close friends and family who simply could no have afforded to come or are incapable of flying/dealing with the heat. We've said that maybe some time in the future we'll have a vow renewal there with our children as witnesses but that's years and years off yet!!

Dress pics will come another day, Scott's wandering around at the moment so I daren't risk it. Plus that's an essay all by itself!!

Which band did you meet through?

Those cakes look senstational!! I'm not a big fan of chocolate (female freak of nature) or cake in general... but even *I* would be tempted by them!!

Your engagement ring is pretty much identical to mine... which I pretty much chose myself as mine was also a 'ringless' proposal

Oh... and my hubby is from Lincoln and moved up here to (very sunny today) Wakefield about 4 years ago... SMALL world!!

We met through U2... online... via a messageboard!! (But if my ma asks, through a friend of a friend at a party!! LOL)

OK it has to be said that is very freaky, we are right on the postcode boundary of Leeds and Wakefield, I'm there quite a bit on driving lessons and such and bought my dress from Amazing Brides near the Westgate Retail Park.

Scott moved from Lincoln to Leeds in about 2000. His parents work on the market in Lincoln and seem to be friends with about half the population of the city. He works at Lincoln County Hospital now, used to work at the LGI in Leeds. I'm originally from Stockport near Manchester.

My ring was from H Samuel. Sadly I've never really worn it is, we found out about a month later, I'm allergic to it :( If I wear it for more than a few hours I come out in a terribly painful rash that takes a few days to heal up. I'm hoping to put it on a chain after the wedding and wear it as a necklace. Seems the only metal I can wear as a ring is platinum which ramps up the cost pretty badly. I wore my wedding ring for a month to test it when I bought it - didn't want that problem again!

I was very lucky when it came to my bridesmaids, there were four people who I instantly knew I would ask and no one else who may feel left out. They were:
- My sister Wendy
- Scott's sister Vikki
- My best friend from high school Merran
- My close friend/ex-housemate Karen

All four were really happy to be asked, especially Vikki who didn't think I would ask her for some reason. I also decided to have my little neice Izzy as a flower girl, she will be six on the day.

It took several months to find a dress for them. I hoped to get them all in the same dress but knew from the outset that would be difficult as I had all ranges of sizes, heights and hair colours between the four. However eventually we found a dress at a shop in Lincoln called Belle and Bouquet.

http://www.belleandbouquet-wellingore.co.uk/

It was in the wrong colour, a pale pink instead of the deep red I wanted but obviously we could order in the correct colour. Vikki tried it on and we both loved it. It even came with a matching wrap included in the price.

On seeing the photos, all four girls were really happy and we went ahead and ordered it pretty quickly. Over the summer, they have been going in for their fittings, the final one (my sister) has her first fitting this weekend (July 19th) as she announced back in September that she was pregnant and only gave birth in May! :cool1:

Here are the girls so far:

We still have to buy dresses for Izzy and her new baby sister but think we've found them. Originally their grandma (a seamstress) would have made them however she was sadly diagnosed with cancer at the start of the year and is now unable to even leave the house really, let alone make dresses and come to the wedding. Izzy will be coming to take a look at the dress we like on the 19th, before her mum's dress appointment. These are the ones we're looking at for her and Lily:

I really hope everyone likes them!

That first wedding cake looks delish! I so would have been picking at those flowers. I do like the quilted look of the one you picked. And your cake topper is PERFECT.

Your bridesmaids are very lucky. You did a great job picking a lovely dress that looks great on each of them.

Wish I could have helped with the ceremony stuff, but it won't load for me.

Sorry about the engagement ring. I don't wear mine as I'm afraid I'll scratch the kids with it. It's not big, ;) but it is the marquise shape with sharp points.

VERY freaky... Hubby used to live just behind County Hospital on Tower Estate. He lived there all his life up until he moved up here!!

... and...

... I'm originally from Cheshire and moved up here about 15 years ago!

Oh, and i'm a nurse... I'm guessing your hubby-to-be works in the medical field right?! How old is your other half and what school did he go to? Hubby went to Christ Hospital? I think that sounds about right... hes at work so I can't ask him right now but hubby is one of 6... 5 of them being boys, so I guess they were pretty well known in Lincoln, where most of them still live

Anyhow... Your bridesmaid dresses are gorgeous. Did I mention those are the same colours we used for our wedding!!! :rotfl:

Great last few days of wedding planning!

Saturday, my sister, BIL and their two daughters came to Lincoln for various fittings. Sis only gave birth in May but was measured pre-pregnancy. Apparently the dress shop didn't take this into consideration when I told them she was pregnant as her dress was ordered at pre-pregnancy size so it doesn't quite do up at the back (although to her credit it's out by only a couple of inches - very impressive really!) It is being let out slightly and she is hitting the yoga dvds extra hard before her next fitting in Aug.

Here she is:

WendyDress.jpg

Her daughters both had the dresses posted above bought for them too - the eldest tried hers on and looked adorable (no pics allowed on the net as sister's request.) Youngest didn't try hers on as she is only 9 weeks and would either dribble or vomit all over it!

On Sunday we nipped to the sales and I managed to find a pair of knickers for the wedding night :rolleyes1 They were kind of an extravagance (£8/$15 for a pair of knickers - seriously!) but sooo worth it - check them out!

01BTBFAS1037_M.jpg

In case it's not clear (kinda hard to read I know) they have "Just Hitched" embroidered on the back. Keeping them a secret from future DH.

OK I think it's time we covered the big issue - the dress!!!

It took me 11 months to find it and I lost count of how many I tried on. I made a mini scrapbook of all the pics I have of dresses that weren't "the one", part one is here: http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=1297174 and part two is here: http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=1297182

That wasn't all of them either!!!

Ok so I finally found one in a shop in the next town over (6th town I'd tried btw) and I knew it was the one as both bridesmaids with me started crying - and these are NOT crying girly girls by any stretch of the imagination! It's ivory and made of taffeta so it's super lightweight.

The only bit I wasn't convinced on was the neckline but as this is a custom couture shop, I asked for a different neckline and that was ok'd - here's the neckline I requested:

But when it came in, it was totally wrong, here's me in it back in May 08 not looking so happy.

IMG_4664.jpg

Thereafter followed several weeks of crying, screaming and argueing but I finally got them to re-do it (they're still claiming it's all my fault but whatever, as long as they do it right). Worryingly I haven't seen it yet but I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed! The beading looked great when I saw it though:

I just desperately need to lose weight and get some super duper squeezing Bridget Jones syle knickers I think so I get a good waist.

Here are my accessories so far. You can see my necklace in the pic of me holding the camera up close.

Everything looks great!! I see what you mean now about your dress, give them a slap from me!! If you showed them the picture you showed us then their version looks nothing like what you asked for!! Hope it all gets sorted honey because it is a gorgeous gown :bride:

All your ideas are lovely, I really like your garter & tiara - very pretty and the cake ideas are fab!! Bet its proper yummy :goodvibes

I love the idea that you met on a message board, I'm biased though because we met on the net too  It seems to be a trend on here lately ;) We're getting married roughly around the same time too, so unfortunately for you - I will now be hooked to your journal so that I can share the fun you're having leading up to your beautiful day :woohoo: :grouphug:

Yeah we get a certain "look" when we tell some people we met on the internet. They seem to think we might be marrying axe murderers or something? I just ask them how much "safer" it is meeting someone in a nightclub when you're probably a little worse for wear and may end up inviting them back to your house the same night - yet no one raises an eyebrow to that do they?

Yeah we did show them that picture, apparently they just ignored it and conveniently the girl I spoke to at the time left duringthe period the dress was being made.

The cake is SO yummy, or at least the sample was. We couldn't chose between chocolate buttercream or ganache as the filling (we knew we wanted a chocolate cake) so we tried both and ended up going with ganache. It was sooo creamy and rich whereas the buttercream was very sweet and a bit too sugary for us. I'll be fighting people for extra slices! We're having a chocolate fountain at the reception too - we're both chocaholics and it shows!

Exactly!! I totally agree! I mean, I know there are PLENTY of strange & dodgy people out there and bad things can easily happen - but good things can too. You just need to be careful and keep your wits about you. But hey, we've been there, done that and are marrying it  ;)

TUT! I hate the way that once they have your money they arent really interested in helping :sad2:

Ooooo I'm drooling over your cake descriptions popcorn:: Save me a piece :thumbsup2 I've put in a request to our planner for our bottom layer to be marble cake with white chocolate and fresh strawberries for filling and the top layer as yellow cake with strawberry mousse filling - I dont know whether they can do it, but I'm crossing my fingers. I've been on a diet so I plan on eating plenty of that cake

I dont know why I didnt spot them before, but I loooove those knickers!! They are fab!! I love stuff like that, anything for a giggle and I'm sure your DF will like them too ;)

Hi!

I've just started reading, to see that you're in Lincoln! I live about 25 miles away from Lincoln, and have just finished at college there!

I love your dress - hope it comes back perfect - the detailing is beautiful! The BM's dresses are gorgeous - I'm thinking of something along those lines too!

Can't wait to read more!

We are desperately trying to sell our house in Leeds to move there. We have a viewing on Tuesday evening so fingers crossed!

My mother is driving me crazy tonight. She is asking why she can't wear jeans to my wedding?!?! Why is that even a question? She's been asking this for over a year now and just won't take no for an answer, she even went out today and bought a pair for the wedding from Sainsburys. How great would that look? Grooms mother in a beautiful Jasper Conran dress with matching jacket and my mum in a pair or jeans from Sainsburys and probably a top from ASDA or some other nonsense. Why can't she just dress up for once, I understand that she likes to be comfortable but everyone else is making the effort.

Sorry for the rant, she's just really winding everyone up right now especially me! Been cheering myself up looking at pretty things on the Jimmy Choo and Louis Vuitton sites - not that I can afford anything!

OK, well I finally had my first official fitting and... well it could have gone better.

After the debacle in May, when I found out my halter neck dress was a strapless with 2 bits of ribbon sewn on the top, I was wary. I had been promised in May (why I listened I will never know) that the dress would be shipped back to the dress makers, the neckline would be altered and I would get a call at the end of July telling me it was in so I could get a fitting. Well it was now July 30th on Weds and my MOH is about to go away to Canada for a month so I thought I'd try and ring them to see if it would be in on time.

"Oh, that dress has been in for about a month. We've been waiting for you to call us."

Erm... ok what's going on here?? I'm psychic now apparently. I call MOH, she drops prety much everything and starts driving the hour over from her house whilst I arrange a hasty appointment. We get there bang on time and... the dress is identical to how it was in May - it never left the store to go back to the dress makers. The shop assistant (a lady we've never dealt with before) is totally confused about what has been going on. We explain and get the impression from her that the lady we saw in May is utterly useless. This one actually seems to be in possesion of a good number of brain cells however so we decide to try the dress on again in it's current state.

Well, obviously useless woman from May did something wrong because it looks totally different now despite having not been changed. (When we got back home we figured it out - idiot woman had put it on me about 5 inches too low making my shoulders uber wide, my breasts not site correctly and the waist sit far too low so I looked shorter and more chubby.) This time, now it's on properly, it looks ace - minus the stupid ribbons on the top. Shop assistant stays with us for half an hour going over all the details, working things out. It's now too late to have the initial halter style I wanted made - but now I've seen the dress fitted correctly, I'm happy enough to go with it as a strapless.

She also gets me to try on a hoop underneath. I hadn't wanted one before as idiot woman insisted on some enormous thing that made my hips the width of the Atlantic Ocean. This time it's a single, basic hoop that helps the dress flow better and I agree that it works.

I get changed back after the length is sorted and we thrash out the details. Assistant assures me that it will be her that removes the stupid ribbons on the top, not the dress makers if it comes down to that - she hates them and I think it would be a struggle to get out of the shop with them still attached if she was in there! I make an appointment for a final fitting on a day when she will be working and I will have at least one bridesmaid available (it's the day before we go on the hen weekend to Disneyland Paris.) She apologises again before we head home.

So finally, after months of stress, I'm finally feeling a bit positive that the dress will be ok. All that's important is that they adjust the length correctly. If the stupid ribbons are still there when I pick up, I can remove them (they are that badly sewn on I could unpick easily - so obviously a last minute afterthought.)

I will end on some pics:

I swear you look two stones lighter in this photo compared to the other one with the silly straps.
You have beautiful shoulders. I think it'll be great to show them off. :thumbsup2

So glad you got someone with a few brain cells. That had to make everything go a little bit better for you. Wish I could tag along for the hen party.
