Room request question

I have read that the requests for a specific room have to be more general,
so if I say that I want a room between this and this number let's say... would you think I can get it ? :worried:

Well, giving them a range of rooms gives you a marginally better chance than specifying one room number, but it's still too specific. If those rooms are booked, they'll put you anywhere.

I think it's a better idea to tell them why you want that area. For example, let's say you want something in the ranges of 4860-4880, and you focused on that range because you want a room on the upper floors of X building, and you want to be close to a bus stop. Much better to say "I want an upper floor room in building X, close to the bus stop."

The idea is to give them enough flexibility to meet your request, and also to give them the information they need to meet your request.

yeah, it's sounds better to be general
I'll go with that but there's a lot of connecting rooms and I don't want one:headache:

so it will go this way :

Non-preferred
Building X
Fourth floor
Facing the pool
Non-connecting room

still it's a detailed request but I won't write room numbers
anyway I'll see what I get when I'm there

Honestly, you probly have a 90% chance of getting your request. Usually everytime I have a request it happends. It was only once that they couldnt have my request, since it was around christmas. but I still had a wonderfull time.

You can trim it down by removing 'non-preferred' from the list. That's a specific booking category, if you didn't book preferred, you won't get it.

Otherwise, I think you'll be just fine with that list. And you can always mention your requests again to the CM who's checking you in. They can modify your room assigment if a room that better suits your needs is available.

Realize that your request will be taken in the order of your five requests. So your non-connecting will be the last thing looked at. The more requests, the less likely you are going to get your perfect room. Figure out what is the most important to you and then request that first.

And remember above everything else. NOTHING is guaranteed.

And you will (may?) read that, for example, half the rooms at Pop Century connect. That means half DON'T.

Okay, let's work it out - again, using Pop Century because I know more about that resort than the other values, and last time I stayed in a moderate they didn't have the 'preferred' designation :)

Ten buildings. By requesting a building you eliminate 90% of the available rooms.

288 rooms per building. Four floors. By requesting a specific floor you eliminate 75% of the remaining choices. Down to 72 rooms.

Half the rooms in each building adjacent to a pool do not face the pool; half do. Now you've eliminated 50% of the remaining options. Down to 36 rooms.

Half the rooms connect, half don't. You've narrowed your request down another 50%. Down to 18 rooms.

You REALLY need to decide which requests are most important, and list them in that order on your reservation.

Excellent way to look at it! I have never requested anything until our upcoming trips through DVC (and then I asked for only 1 thing - a section of SSR, and pool view at BCV), but I will keep that in mind if I ever consider multiple requests for some reason.

Thank you - can you tell I like number? :teeth:

My ONLY request for my upcoming trip is a king bed. In fact, the CM was surprised I didn't ask for more - but there are 192 (I think) possible rooms if I stick with the one request. If I add a floor, or a building, my options go WAY down.

Not everyone has as good luck though. I have never (and I mean never and I go three-four times a year) gotten my requests when I first check in. I have the CM note my requests when I make my ressie. I call back about a month before I check in, to make sure it is noted, then I call about a week before I go to again check it is noted, then I call about three days before check in to make sure again that it is still noted. Every time I've checked in, I have never had any of my requests. However, when I check in, I again ask very nicely for what I want and usually have gotten close about 1/3 of the time. The other 2/3's I haven't had any luck. What's funny are my requests are never that detailed. The only thing I've ever asked for is bottom floor close as possible to bus stop and food court if I'm in a Value or Moderate and top floor close to an elevator if I'm in a Deluxe. I always pay for a preferred room, if I want one, so have never asked for an upgrade. I just want on a certain floor and close to either an elevator or bus stop/food court. I usually wind up on some middle floor in the back of a resort or if I pay for preferred room, I'm in the last possible room in that section that could still be considered preferred facing a tree or parking lot. I just don't have good luck with room requests. Hey, last Sept I booked and paid for a 'preferred' room at AS Music (requesting bottom floor, close as possible to food court, as usual) and at check in they had us way out in the Broadway section. After I reminded them I had paid for a preferred room, they moved us back up to the Calypso building, but on the end closest to Jazz on the backside, facing the parking lot. Oh, yeah, one more thing. We always check in around 10:00-11:00am, so it's not like we are getting the left over rooms, late at night.

I am staying at PORS in Sept and have requested Bayou section, building 14, 15, 18, or 27 bottom floor close as possible to food court and bus stop and had them add it was for medical reason for my 74 y/o diabetic mom with bad knees. I'm expecting a room on the top floor of the last Mansion, but know we'll have a good time regardless of where our room is.

Yeah. I've never had any luck with "first or fourth floor" (figuring if I need to use the elevator anyway, I may as well go straight to the top, so nobody's jumping off beds at 5 AM in the room above :)), so I gave up.

And, call back and ask to be connected to - or at least for the CM to contact, while you hold - Special Services, to arrange for a room location that meets your medical needs.

I'm hoping hoping hoping our request for a non-ADA king room goes through. We usually ask to be put in a quiet, preferably top floor of hotels once we get there. Having no one above you is generally a good thing and while I hate heights, the views are generally better.

I had to call about something else on our ressie the other day and spoke to "Geraldo" and asked about our room request again and he was very confident that we would have no trouble getting a King room and then he chuckled. I wonder why? lol Pixie dust?

That's all I asked for as well and we did get it. The Cast member who checked me in was very pleased that I got it. The room wasn't ready and she said she wasn't even going to check to see if another room was available because those rooms are very difficult to get.

BTW - we were room 2103, first floor of the 50s building two and facing the pool. Excellent room. Perfect.

But, if I ask for first floor of the 50s building two and facing the pool, I won't get it!!!!

I think it all depends on your point of view, I'm confident I'll get what I want, I've always gotten what I wanted in life :woohoo: (never been to Disney thought).

Even if the small math exercice makes it down to 18 rooms, it's still 18 rooms;) . Anyway I'll see at check-in what happens (and manage to find satisfaction anyhow), I don't stress on this.

Thanks for you inputs thought and have a nice day ! :)

I'm with you!! I never had one single request granted when I checked in. :confused3 Twice I asked for a balcony at WL, and was denied - and that is something very simple, and most rooms aren't even on the ground floor! One time I did get a request by begging and pleading (nicely) with the check-in CM.

It just blows my mind when posters here always encourage others to make requests, and say they routinely get all of their requests. These are the lucky ones! Sadly this is not the case for quite a few of us - I just want to warn new posters that often requests are never even viewed. The computer just assigns the room, end of story.

Aubriee - on two different trips I asked for Alligator Bayou at POR, and both times instead got the farthest room in mansion Parterre Place, looking at the parking lot. Maybe you will finally have some luck (though probably not!!) You are good to mentally prepare for a room in nowhereland!

I stopped making all requests, because they just got my hopes up, and they clearly were a waste of effort and never viewed by anyone. No point bothering anymore.
